Fury X Benchmarked @ 4K (via AMD)

I'm a Titan X owner and I'm not mad at all. This kind of competition could mean the next Titan will be $650 and the __80 Ti will be $550. I'm also happy to see AMD fans finally get a new product to be excited about.

Exactly. And I'm sure you knew what you were getting yourself into when you bought a Titan X.

What many nV owners/fans don't understand (or care about because they are blinded by idiotic brand loyalty) is the better Fury is, the more pressure there will be for nV to lower prices -- and everyone's happy.

Can we please stop spouting this bullshit about 4GB not being enough for 4K. Someone show me a game benchmark where it really shows that 4GB is not enough because I haven't seen one. Not here and elsewhere.

Atm you can't max out games at 4K with single Fury X, TX, you name it so the VRAM concerns become moot. It might hold some candle if you are driving 4x TX against 4x Furys and can MAX the games at 4K but we will see it when someone decides to do that test.

Yes its a bitch thing to not have HDMI 2.0, though I don't really care and I've wanted DP only card for a while now, too bad they just decided to use full size DP's and not mDP

I still don't understand why AMD would launch a flagship card with only 4 gigs. This is 2015 not 2013 we are talking about.

Has Nvidia in the last 5 years ever lowered top-tier prices, with the exception of the Titan Z ?
The next Titan will again be a $1,000 - 1,200 card because people keep buying them. If they released a Titan XTi with 24GB of RAM and 10% higher performance today for $1,600, people would go nuts and buy two.

Why would Nvidia lower the price ceiling they themselves have been raising every year ? Even if AMD brings out cards that are all 30% faster across their lineup for two years, people would still massively be buying Nvidia. The same with Intel or AMD CPU's, it's because people associate too much emotion with a brand (hate, love) and rarely look at the facts objectively.

Nvidia brings out wonderful products and they perform well, but they aren't cheap and never will be cheap. Because if Nvidia is going to compete with AMD on a price war, they will both lose a lot of profit. Nvidia can stay in its comfort zone and ask higher prices because of brand loyalty. But don't expect them to suddenly be better at performance and cost you less at the same time, because you'd like it.

AMD is considered a poor man's brand in my view. They should strip the AMD name brand and get ATI back. Now those days were glorious when had 9800 pro trumping every nVidia out there and selling in heaps.

Thanks for proving my point that people have too much emotional baggage when considering technology.

Let's see.... AMD's Fury X is the first widespread implementation of a video card with liquid cooling which will result in much lower temps and sound levels. AMD'S Fury X uses HBM memory which was developed jointly between AMD and Hynix. (AMD helped create GDDR3 and GDDR5 as well, BTW). AMD's Fury X contains more transistors than either the 980 Ti or the Titan X, yet the card itself is only 7.5" long compared to 10.5" for the 980 Ti/Titan X so it can fit in nearly any case out there, even mini-ITX.

Yes, definitely "a poor man's brand".

Holy cow, if I read one more "it's only got 4 GB of ram" comments I am going to turn into a mountain and kick someone into the sun...
YES, it has only 4 GB of ram, BUT it has a 4096 bit memory interface speed which affords it 512 GB/s memory bandwidth (link to stats: http://core0.staticworld.net/images/article/2015/06/amd-radeon-fury-x-specs-100592007-orig.png); this is massive compared to the 980 Ti's 384 GB/s allowing it to perform just as well as the 6 GB the Ti has, if not better (link to stats: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-980-ti/specifications).
I understand you are angry there is competition now, and that you are just trolling to troll (this is the internet and I acknowledge some people enjoy being a jerkface since they think they are posting anonymously) but please just STFU unless you have something accurate/constructive to add to the conversation.

Speaking of accuracy.. Do you have any evidence showing HBM with its higher bandwidth will magically act like more than 4GB of DDR5

The truth has been spoken.

That's how it always is, new products are good for everyone. I wager that when the Fury X launches the GTX 980 will be available at a $400 price point or less. And while it might not be Nvidia's fastest card it's pretty close.

As for me I just buy whatever is the best deal. AMD this time (280x Crossfire), but it Nvidia last time (GTX 460 SLI). Actually, now that I think about it I've been back and forth several times between ATI and Nvidia cards but I've never actually bought a card with any other brand GPU, all the way back to the Rage Pro. Maybe I'm a fanboi, a two-brand fanboi.

Is there a way to block specific users? Like an adblock for usernames?
Both Shadows of Mordor and Witcher 3 can take advantage of over 4 GB cards (link to SoM requiring 6GB+ of VRAM: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2014/09/sh...-texture-quality-recommends-6gb-of-video-ram/)
I debated even posting the initial post I made because I feared some troll would latch onto it and feed; looks like I was right...
And even though it won't matter now: before the fury x had actual benchmarks I was set to buy a 980 so I don't have brand loyalty one way or the other; just want the best performance/quality for the price and AMD is showing they can offer just that.

Unfortunately there is no way around all these skepticism due to benchmark comparison being provided by AMD. Until AMD allows objective reviews from people like from kyle/brent, there will always be a question of bias. Maybe SOM was one of the games they optimized vram for in their drivers or set it to ultra but not have the ultra textures installed. Witcher 3 is not a very vram intensive game. I rarely went over 3 gb.

Something just got me thinking. With the much smaller footprint, anyone think AMD will release a professional card based off the Fury X, like what Apple's been putting in their 'trashcan' workstation?

Also, I take all these numbers with a grain of salt. [H] is about the only place I get my numbers, so I'm in the hopeful wait-and-see camp before I really start cheering or not.

The Quantum is sort of like that

it uses the Furyx2 however, not a pro card...

Watch AMDs official videos on YouTube of their Fury Presentation. HBM is able to feed the main chip at a MUCH higher rate which in a way eliminates the need for more RAM. So yes in a way 4GB turns into a higher number because its able to keep up MUCH quicker.
You cant compare HBM to GDDR5, its a different beast entirely.

980 doesnt even compete with the Fury line of cards, so they can lower the price all they want.

This whole notion of a MASSIVE fire sale from Nvidia is downright stupid. 980TI model is whats going to compete with the Fury line of cards, which are both priced the same. AMD side offers WAY more benefits with their cooler and overhead if you decide to OC.
Nvidia has already discounted the 980, get that if thats in your price range.

To put it in layman's terms:
GDDR5 is like having a 300 hp front-wheel drive car; lots of power but it's only being ported to two wheels.
HBM is like having a 250 hp all-wheel drive car; less power, but because you can apply it to all 4 wheels you will get better overall performance.

You are ignoring the the fact the both 980 and 980 Ti are massive overclockers even on air. Most of the people are hitting 1400 Mhz without much of an effort. That is a healthy 30% overclock.

I take you like to ignore facts. Performance of Fiji is not proven until the [H] review comes out.

I was talking because of their whole CPU facade. No one takes them seriously on the CPU front which in turn has an adverse effect on their GPU department. Hence the label, "a poor man's company".

that's a good analogy but only if its usable by all 4 wheels.

I think you are the one ignoring the facts.

If you compare an air cooled model at $650 for the 980ti to a $550 air cooled Fury, guess who's coming out on top? You cant even compare a water cooled model to the TI, thats asinine. There is FAR more value in the WC Fury card than anything Nvidia offers, and Fury will overclock better and stay cooler while the TI model will throttle due to heat when you OC it.

Well right off the bat, AMD doesn't seem like it is going to allow overclocking of the ram on Fiji, at least initially, so that is not a good start for saying this card is made for crazy overclocking.

It is used by all 4 wheels...at all times.

I'm not so sure of that, according to the reviewers guide, when overclocking Fiji, its getting 5% increase in performance with a 10% overclock, there is a bottleneck somewhere, and it looks like memory can't be overclocked, at least initially to investigate where the bottleneck is.

Overclocking the core >>>. I never gained much at all from overclocking the memory, outside of synthetic benches.

It depends on the gpu. I've seen with the x1800xt when overclocking its memory it gained more then when the gpu was overclocked. It all depends on where the bottlenecks are and how balanced the card is.

Guy asks for evidence.

You point him to PR material from party that directly profits from showing there are no problems :D

Youre joking right? Who the hell is more qualified to explain how HBM works than from the company that invented the tech with partner companies?

We dont know that yet. You are making your hypothesis into facts. There has been not a single benchmark out yet.

As far as we can tell, last time around AMD overclocked their cards to the hilt and mentioned an upto speed of 1 Ghz for the 290X. Whats stopping them from doing the scene this time around considering the 980 Ti was a preemptive strike and AMD has been working behind the scenes to find the best clocks to supersede the 980 Ti.

Where as any 980 Ti after market cooler is giving you 1500 Mhz on a mild overclock. And that is a fact!

They earned the poor mans company title by catering to the super low end market, where for a time they thought they would gain some traction. And they did with APU's, but as it turns out more people than they thought are still interested in the high end of GPU's and CPU's.

Well they didn't have much choice on the CPU front, the validation time and development time for CPU's are too long to make a mistake.
