fully modular PSU?

So I had bought a VX450 as my first modular PSU, and to my dismay realized that it's what I would consider a hybrid. My understanding of modular (and yes, I couldn't be bothered to check it out or look at the pics) is that you end with only those cables that you truly need.

I am looking at the PSU, and I see quite a few cables which are permanently attached, but I have no use for. Of course I could take the whole thing apart, and remove the ones I don't need, but that was what modular was supposed to do for me.

So is there a PSU that's truly modular where you could essentially install it in your case without a single cable sticking out of it (if you'd wanted to)?

The VX450 is not a modular PSU so I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Also, the majority of modular PSUs have the 20/24 pin connector permanently attached since you need it for any system.

Yeah, the 450VX is not a modular PSU at all. You either got the name wrong or was sadly misinformed.

Anyway there are PSUs out there that are completely modular, even with the 24Pin connector can be removed. This is one of them:

However as Zero82z pointed out, for most modern systems, you still need the 24Pin connector as well as the 4Pin CPU connector attached no matter what. Really don't understand why anyone would just leave a bare PSU with no connectors in a case at all.

Oops, I meant the HX520, I have a VX450 as well, but that one I bought knowing that it's not modular.

I am not worried about the 24pin, but there are still additional cables permanently attached to the HX520, I can't really look at that now, but from memory there is an unused 4-pin or 6-pin, forget which. Was just surprised by that. In the end it doesn't matter much, I think I may just go ahead and mod the PSU to shorten all the cables to the appropriate length anyway.

It's just one unused 8Pin CPU connector or 4Pin CPU connector. Just one cable. Nothing too big IMO.
