Fried external encsloure?

I plugged in a 24v source into my external enclosure instead of the 12v it was designed for. The pcb on the hd got fried. I sent it into a service center to have the pcb replaced, and they just got back to me saying that the switch has been successful. Hopefully I'll be able to recover the contents.

However I have a question about the external enclosure. I am guessing that it got fried too, but I am inquiring just to make sure. Am i risking anything by trying to put the hard drive into that enclosure ?
 
The only way to know for sure would be to examine it carefully and test it.
 
aye caramba throw that damn thing away. you can get another external enclosure off ebay for 5 bucks if its that important.
 
Depends what the VR in the enclosure is.

Pop it open, follow the power trace to the first active (3 legged) component, if it is not a burnt mess read on it and look up the data sheet. 30V is a very common VMax for VRs.
 
They are not 5$ but I had a external vantec case that killed every drive I put in it.. (2 rip) get new one silly ;)

I wouldn't try it.

Just connect the drive directly to the MB and try to recover your data.... which you'll wanna do anyway.

I'd just toss the exclosure in the garbage.
