Free games!!!

The latest version of Cube 2 was just released the other day.

It is, imo, the best open source shooter out there. I've been involved with the community for awhile now, so obviously I'm biased. But really, its great for old school quake-style duels. Also capture the flag and protect (a new mode) are great. Instagib, ffa, efficiency (like clan arena), etc. Very fast paced and simple...and now there are ragdoll physics.

I havent Read every page here but has anyone tried UrbanTerror?
http://www.UrbanTerror.net
its Free now that it uses a Modified ioquake engine "ioUrbanterror" So there's no need to Own a retail copy of Quake3 like it was years ago.
This game is good for those with low end systems that arent up to spec to play games like crysis or COD4 etc..
They also have an awesome Community thats been going strong now for almost 10 years!
I'd suggest you check it out! Just Download both game parts (They cant include the iourbaterror.exe with the Mod/Game files dude to licensing issues) but the mirrors they have for both sets of files are fast and its a great game. Check out their irc channel too at #urbanterror on ETG irc.enterthegame.com

A long time back I tried gunz online, it was kinda fun, I really enjoyed the sword style fighting, but the game needs a bit of an overhaul. Then again it's free.

1) Atlantica
2) Archlord
3) Exteell
4) Hero Online
5) Rappelz
6) Requiem
7) Savage 2
8) Silk Road
9) Tactis Arena Online
10) Voyage Century

these are all consider mmos

theres Warzone 2100, its been released as open source for awhile now, its pretty old but I still enjoy it from time to time

wow nice list. I play quakelive but i moved to taiwan and there are no servers here. :(

Americas Army is pretty fun, still needs more updating, but it's a free game!! works on your realism, and when u die, u die, i love the emotion, and the feeling of being in the dirt, and grime of the game. And when you do get a multi kill, it's truly godlike. It's a whole different game experience.

Dwarf Fortress is the supreme and total addiction win.
Nothing like building a tower of obsidian 12 stories above ground, and 12 below ground, with a polished platinum grate at the bottom, through which you throw captured enemies and watch as they shred into tiny bits!

Just watch the damn carp.

I started playing this last week and its been a lot of fun so far. Lot of options to play with, though it seems a bit easy to make your fort siege-proof.

Mech Commander series is free now. Tactical RTS-style games based on the Battletech boardgame. Giant mechs that you equip, pick pilots, plan your missions then go blow things up. First one is pre-3d from the pentium days; second one is 3d.

Daggerfall is free. Runs in DOSBox. Came before Morrowind and Oblivion, same concept - big open world, skill-based character, do anything you want, etc.

Are we allowed to post "work arounds" that allow us to use commercially available games for free? I suspect the answer is no, but just wanted to check.

If you found yourself fond of Gunz,

http://s4.en.alaplaya.net/

S4 is quite fun and looks better too. It's more pick up and play and less grindy than a lot of its type of games with its options to rent items and all that.

Hey guys there is a great free game I have been playing for a while now. Its called Shards of Dalaya www.shardsofdalaya.com Its completely free but donations are encouraged. The game is based off of EverQuest but it is 100% custom content and it is so much fun, the people are great.

Go to the website to sign up and start playing, you will need to install everquest titanium edition on your computer first though.

When you get in game look me up, my name is Rokgaw and I will be glad to help you start out.

Hope to see you guys in game.

Estiah. Fun browser pvp/pve "mmorpg" I've been playing this past month. It came out about a year ago.

Taken from one of the creator's posts on another forum-
"Gameplay
Estiah is designed for quick play sessions. This means that the typical play pattern is ~10 min of game time daily. As you can see, this quite different from what you expect from MMO's... but that's a point of such a game. This is something you play at work, at school, between fort captures in DaoC or when your WoW server is down. It's a pleasant time-filler for when you have a few loose minutes. However be warned, it's a bit addictive...

When playing, you have a set amount of action points that allow you to do any kind of actions: train, fight, explore dungeons, go gather materials, craft items, and so on. This pool of action point is refilled regularly during the day, and stack for up to one week. Apart from that, you are allowed to take on a job and travel to a neighbor city once a day.
"

"At level 20, you can chose one class among 4 possible.
At level 30, you can evolve into one of the 8 tier 2 classes
At level 40 you determine your final class from the 12 available."

It's quite fun. The combat is based off of a card game type system. But the cards in the deck you are currently using are played at random. Makes for some exciting fights. Like most text based browser games there is an "item store" but the upgrades you can buy are things like inventory space and titles. Nothing in the item store will make your character or other people's more powerful.

If you want to you can add me as a "mentor." I get a small benefit of a few points toward a skill for every level you gain. Just register with "Gir23" as your mentor.
