I sold 2 PSUs Las year for $140 and $160. It was Rosewill tokamak 1500W and EVGA G2 1600W. They did not sell for months and finally some one bought them. I was in need of a second PSU and I was shocked when I see the prices. I actually bid on eBay for a used Corsair AX1200i which HAS $299 MSRP, it sold for $490. I don't understand how Bitcoin rush can even surge the PSU prices. You use a PSU for about 5GPU. May be a little surge OK but double the prices? That is insane.

Running 5-12+ GPU's requires lots of power. 1000w and above seem to be overpriced and/or scarce.

Even 750W PSUs now went up because regular Joes cant find the 1000W in stock and they have to buy 750W or so. Well. I dont think this will change anytime soon. Probably we will ride this another year or 2 at minimum.

I just bought a 750 watt power supply for $95 before a $25 rebate. Do you expect 750s to be free or something? Are people blaming miners when toothpaste is out of stock too?!?

I am not blaming the miners. I just started to mine myself as well , LOL. But I used to buy good quality 1000W PSU for $130-150, not 750W gold rated PSUs moved to this price range.

I bought around a dozen seasonic plats and titaniums in the last 6 months or so before they got nailed by this. You probably don't want to know what I paid for some of them ;) I camp the deal tracking sites

They seemed to lag gpu gouging by a month or so. Not that it takes a real genius to know if gpus are in short supply related products will be affected but boy do I feel smart. I'm unloading some of my older gold/whatever/unrated out of warranty to said miners.

Wow... I actually gave away a brand new Corsair HX1000i to a buddy a few weeks ago. It was from Corsair warranty but it was a brand new factory sealed unit that I kept in the closet for a couple years (forgot about it).

Take it back DTN!!!

lol, yeah mining has hit high efficiency and high watt PSU's pretty hard....now back to my mining

Is there a reason why people just don't run multiple PSU's? Seems to make more economic sense running 2x 750W than a single 1500W.

Multiple has other considerations, yes it is viable and can work but it tends to fail harder when it does.

Server's PSU's. I used to have dozens of Corsair AX1200i's. Sold them all and replaced with HP and Liteon 1200W and 1400W server PSU's that I sourced for around $25/ea. + $12 breakout board + $3/ea for 6+2pin PCIe cables. Godsend.

The thing with mining is avoid what the herd is doing.

Yeah good call, they also know what they're doing with the N+1 designs unlike some of the ATX DIY stuff.

I am looking to power 2 new builds and want to go this route. Can you point me a bit closer in the right direction?

What server PSU makes/models I should specifically look for or avoid?

And same question wrt breakout boards/cables?

Thanks

I blame the miners, PSU sizes were dropping from 1k-1200w down to 750-850 for a while. Who wants a long PSU when GPUs became less hungry around gtx7xx?

I grabbed a spare 1000w when they were on blowout for $75 a year or 2 ago with a $25mir

My Seasonic 860 decided to go tonight when I was popped in 64gb of 3200mhz and decided to see if I could retain my clock.

I'm glad I had it bc I paid the same for a used 7700k what a psu runs now.

Sucks man.
