yes my choice to upgrade...airflow lost is irrelevant since I don't have an Intel lava CPU...I have the 7800X3D with a Noctua NH-D15 cooler which is also overkill for that CPU...airflow and cooling won't be an issue with my components and fan layout

2 180mm fans are bigger in terms of dimensions so the bottom 180mm fan will sit higher than if you had 3 140mm fans...the bottom 140mm front fan will be further down and almost directly at the bottom of the case...the 3 140mm fans at the bottom alone have proven to not really do as great of a job with GPU cooling as shown in the Gamers Nexus video...theoretically those 3 bottom fans should be excellent for GPU cooling

it's not bad but something is obviously preventing the GPU from getting all that air...which is why I think the 180mm fans are too strong and re-directing a lot of that air out too quickly before it gets a chance to cool the GPU more efficiently

another reason why I think having all case fans being the same in terms of size might be better
 
I'm also very doubtful that three fans will make less noise than two, in practice. The db rating on fans' spec sheets is very far from telling the whole story in my experience. There's sound signature, but then there's interference, harmonics, the way sounds combine with each other, vibrations being sent to the case etc. etc etc..

It's a fiendishly complex science with so many factors.

I used to mess around with fan setups in all my cases (before the Torrent, basically, since I can't really fault that one) and own a billion Noctuas and a couple other brands, so yeah been there, done that, since 2008 or so. Could say I wasted money myself, but I did have fun, and learned a lot.

I have also tried many fans, the best are the 200mm ones, they are mostly available in thermaltake cases, but you can also find them in others,but now less and less,even if I don't follow.
Now I'm mostly on 120mm and the cheap ones, normally I still have the noctua fans in operation, the cheap ones become noisy or loud over time,but it doesn't have to mean, there are good ones too.
As I said about that torrent, these fans at the bottom are unnecessary, I would leave one maybe, especially who has A-C.
 
I was debating on swapping out front fans but seeing as how the 120/140mm brackets partially occlude the 140mm fans i felt that would be a poor choice. i don't like the idea of any of the fins being blocked by brackets and such. It was the main reason I opted for the torrent over the meshify 2 especially when I prefer the looks of the meshify over the torrent. Meshify's 180mm front fans are pretty much 20% blocked by the mounting bracket.

which Meshify 2 case uses 180mm front fans?
 
The 180s work pretty well. I have the Compact, should have got the full sized model.. but I am poor.

Right now I am running the 2 stock 180s up front, 2 140s in the basement, and a 140 for exhaust.

The setup works pretty well. I have a variety of coolers that I play with, and they all agree that it is a good setup.

It's not a problem that they work, the problem is the noise, how many of them you hear, air flow, etc.
I can hear mine and they are quite loud, with my nf-f12 you can hear the airflow and the engine.
I noticed with the nf-f12 that the older they are, the more the engine is heard, but it's good that the engine noise is not tiring and irritating.
I recently replaced an old cpu fan with an ARCTIC P12 PWM PST, quite a big difference in noise and performance in favor of arctic.The P12 PWM PST fan is very good, relatively cheap and has a very good ratio of performance and noise.
 
I sit 9 feet away from my computer, the "noise" is hardly noise. I can tell you have never run industrial fans before. Most consumer fans are pretty weak, even the Fractal 180s.
 
That's quite far(2.7m), I don't understand what kind of industrial fans and consumer fans.I didn't use more expensive fans than noctua.
I had a thermaltake chaser mk1,I had to throw it away because the pci slots and mbo area were not well made, I tried to fix it but then I destroyed it even more. I paid a lot for it but even that does not guarantee that you will get a correct and good product.Now I only buy relatively cheap fans and cases.Inwin 303 is also not perfect, but it is satisfactory, none of the other cases have steel with a thickness of 1.2 mm, I have not yet managed to destroy the thread on it. I mostly destroyed all the other cases. I would certainly destroy the fractal torrent as well.

I have a stack of Panaflo 120x38s, I have a smaller stack of NMB, I have some T30s, and I have a stack of iPPC 3K both 120 and 140mm.

Real CFM there sonny, not that 60cfm crap :D

Yes, never heard or seen such fans..
Interestingly, this phanteks t30 is available for purchase at my place and its price is a nice 34.20 euros.99 euros for 3 pieces in a package.
 
I have this, I guess I haven't used it for more than 10 years (I don't remember exactly), when I installed it in the case once before, the noise was unbearable, I couldn't use it, it's like a vacuum cleaner,how much it buzzes and blows at maximum rpm.Otherwise, the fan's blades can be pulled out.

If you have a fan that can hover, I would be more impressed with that.

I have this 92mm 4000rpm knuckle shredder.. its from the P3 era.

About 2 days older than dirt.

If you hot plug it, you will pop the fan header rendering it unusable.. took me 4 boards to figure that out lol..

what are you talking about,why would someone hot plug a fan in mbo,I don't have expensive fans
 
It all depends on what the noise floor dB in your environment is to be honest. So far, the default for me is less, so I don't hear it. It does the job for me. Others might find it different, and thus may want a fan change if they can hear it. I wear headphones late at night when its dead silent, so it doesn't effect me anyway. Having said that, I remember the days of cooling my Pentium 4 Northwood with a dinky 40mm fan on a short cooler.....I think I may have hearing damage lol
 
This seems like a good successor to the Silverstone FT02b I had for years. 180's, positive pressure, all intakes filtered. I was kind of sad when I went from the FT02b to a Meshify C. That lil case was a bit garbage.

The Phanteks P600s I've been using for a few years is really pretty good. Built well, some sound deadening, lots of room, filtered intake (not as clean as FT02b), and the side panels are doors (f'n great).

I couldn't resist the Torrent though. Just picked it up to go with the 9800x3d I've had laying around since it came out. All the parts for a new PC except new video card so I've been too lazy to put it all together. Hoping for a 5090 soon.

I've been using Noctua only fans for some time, but this time I'm going to leave it all stock and do what I normally do. PWM up to the point where they get annoying and knock them down just enough so they aren't. For my NF12a's that was 60% pwm. I believe the NF14's were the same. 60%. Hopefully whatever these fractal fans are they put out decent air at that non annoying sound level. I'll have the three 140's on one header, 2 180's on a different controller, and 2 cpu on another header. The only fans I let go to annoying levels are the CPU with a nice curve.

Does this Torrent filter dust as well as the FT02B I wonder? I had that for 10 years and only had to clean the inside once or twice. Just cleaned the filters now and then.

And for the above fan discussion, I still have some Deltas and maybe some Panaflo's from the early 2000's laying in a box. I thought I'd use them in some builds back then but they were absolutely f'n ridiculous high rpm fans. I'm sure I used a Delta or two on cases and CPU's back then.

It all depends on where you put the computer. My sig build is on my desk and I rarely hear it other than the occasional game.

My new 2nd build in a Torrent also sounded loud, but it just was due to being out in the open while setting up. Once I moved it to my bedroom it is quiet, much quieter than the PC it replaced. I think I have FanControl with the case fans at 50% and my Mugen 6 at 30% with the speed set to auto based off CPU Package temps and system temps.

I need to set Fancontrol on my first PC, but I keep forgetting to connect one of the case fans to fan 1 on the included fan controller. None of the others report speed.
