Forza 3... Who's Getting It?

nothing? it does have something to do with network coding. if forza 3 can only push 8 players online its because of their network code being shit and there game cant optimize and run more than 8 cars on screen.

IMO poor network infrastructure is not the main reason that Forza 3 has only 8 cars. If so, they could have 16 cars in SP mode and drop to 8 for online. But I believe it's 8 cars on track period.

I think they tried to bump the graphics up to GT5 level and had to compromise.
They said the lack of night racing is due to disc space, I don't know if the omission of weather is caused by a technical deficiency in the engine, or if they decided to spend the graphics+processing cycles elsewhere like the bump mapped curbs and 3d trees.

Doing more of anything is obviously harder. But the network aspect of it isn't going to be the bottleneck. The extra processor load to handle synchronising double the cars wouldn't be significantly higher, though mentioned, the bandwidth requirements might be.

I am looking forward to much more of this though... whilst the usual suspects are busy arguing over games they never had any intention of playing anyway. Gotta love fanboys.

Yeah, absolutely nothing. Your post is laughable. If it's got to do with PSN vs XBL then why does need for speed shift have 16 cars on screen on both consoles? What's more, you go on about dedicated servers without realising that GT5:p (the game you mention) doesn't even use them. That's of course ignoring the fact that out of all the games this gen, less than 20 have dedicated servers on the PS3... making your "most 360 games use P2P" comment a joke too.

Get a clue.

You want to turn this into a fanboy war (lets face it, it's the only reason you posted), then go with something like "It's clear the 360 isn't powerful enough to render 16 cars on screen. Forzalol".

Ok how many 360 exclusive games have a player count higehr then 16? ps3 has more and thats a fact. why? because teh devs use their own servers to host online MP games.

how does MAG manage 256 players eh fanboy? btw i just come off of my 360 play forza 2 on the silvestone track doing loads of laps for the fun of it

Does that change the fact that GT5:p doesn't use dedicated servers? Does it change the fact that less than 20 games on the PS3 use dedicated servers? Does it somehow correct your faulty assumptions?

You do realise that devs can use dedicated servers on the 360 too? (I guess not) But just like on the PS3... 99% of them don't.

As for multiplayer games. I was playing against 80,000 other people in a single game on the 360 last night. :D

forza 2 was great and this wil be a first day purchase for me also and a great way to clear the dust off my 360

fanboy eh? so why did i post that then on the very first page of this thread? sounds like your the fanboy around here:eek:

You got a link to backup such a claim mr fanboy? About only 20 ps3 games being run on dedicated servers?

lol... you're calling me a fanboy? One of us plays on the PS3 and 360 regularly (unless you've changed your gamertag it's been quite a while since you touched your 360)... one of us does nothing but post flamebait about the 360 since he had some fail on him.

I tell you what... why don't you tell me what PS3 games run on dedicated servers. There's obviously so many of them that you wont have a problem finding more than 20 will you?

I'll even start you off:

Resistance 1
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
Metal Gear Online
Unreal Tournament 3
Warhawk

Whether or not he's right or wrong about the netcode/servers issue is pretty irrelevant to this discussion (I dont know whether or not he is because I dont give a damn :p). What is relevant is 8 cars is crap, regardless of the reason why :p In GTR, in single player I'll usually race at least 20 AI cars and online most races are 15-25 too.

That said, I'm not too phased about only 8 cars, except on longer tracks like Le Mans or Nordshleife where after the first few minutes you might never see another opponent until the race is over.

Funny thing is... I don't disagree that there should be more than 8 cars (12 is the sweet spot for me). That said, mendoza tends to post for a reason around here, and that reason is always obvious.

8 cars is clearly a massive problem for him, but which is it?

8 cars? ***? that si bloody terrible. that can be a deal breaker for me.

what the hell is wrong with these guys? 8 players in a racing game = fail.

...

terrible to have 8 players. gutted and a posisble deal breaker for me:thumbsdow:mad:
or
forza 2 was great and this wil be a first day purchase for me also and a great way to clear the dust off my 360

Because last I checked Forza 2 had 8 cars as well. Strange.

[Edit - My apologies to all for derailing the thread with arguments. I wont continue.]

lol and the seatbelts-can it get any better?
i wonder if those seatbelts are there for a reason... Maybe a hard enough crash can throw you off and into your tv? ^^

Looks like the hydraulic system is quite dangerous, there is an emergency stop switch also.

I don't see a contradiction. It's natural to think a sequel will expand on the feature set. Although considering the short development period and emphasis on boosting graphics, it doesn't surprise me they settled for 8 cars again. But I give them credit, they're a good 1st party studio. They made other efforts to catch up with GT5 like cockpit view.

jonneymendoza, don't hold Turn 10 to PD's world class standards or expect the same results with that hw and you won't be as disappointed. If someone only had an X360, and liked Forza 2, there is no reason not to buy Forza 3.

You dont even know my player tag or do you? you do realize that YOU DONT HAVE TO BE ONLINE TO PLAY ON A 360 right?

what flaimbate posts have i posted this week alone? come on tell me because the way you sound, you sound as if i make posts with the purpose of flaimbaiting all the fucking time:eek:

so now i cant posts negetivity about stuff anymore in this forum? i post saying how 8 player races is lame and question the 360's architecture and i get labeled a fanboy and a flaimbait?

like Stereophile stated, whats wrong with expecting a SEQUAL to advance in various features such as increasing the low player count?

Yes i am fullya ware that forza 2 has 8 players but before that, i never played any pc racing sims. forza 2 got me into racing sims and since i have experienced proper racing sims on the pc with better online features and better gameplay, i have not looked back on forza 2 for a while ebcause gtr evo, rfactor etc etc all piss all over forza 2.

i was expecting forza 3 to be alot better but now all i see is forza 2 in disquise and paying £40 for minor improvemenst over forza 2 is not worth it unless there are loads more features not known? so far they have announced features that wont be in the game such has weather, night racing, no rally racing and low player count.

here are some quotes from others which further explains why 8 player grid is a big dissapointment:
It's not just about online, an 8 car grid doesn't cut it offline either.

Saying that your only racing the car in front and behind is a weak argument, larger grids mean more competition and racing for drivers of all levels.

The reason there's a lot of quitters on FM2 online is because the grids are too small and there's often nobody to race on the same level as you as a consequence. Avoiding random online games, and racing in organized private events/league races would have a much higher standard of driving, better racing and far less quitters.

There is not one good point to limiting grids to 8 players, the only reason there doing it is to keep the frame rate up with all the eye candy turned on.

a bigger grid would have been very welcome, news that it's only 8 is disappointing. Bigger grids would not have been a problem for anyone who fears the "spanner" as they could easily limit their lobbies to 8 or less, make it one on one even if you like so that's a false arguement to disguise a short comming of the game.

There's a fairly significant difference between expecting a sequel to expand and angrily announcing that a limitation is terrible / makes a game not worth buying / that "8 players in a racing game = fail" when the same limitation exists on a racing game which you describe as "great".

You dont even know my player tag or do you?
That would be pinoy soldier.

The rest I'll leave as is. No point in an argument that'll never be resolved.

And if you read carefuly what i said, i said i never played a pc racing sim before forza 2

it was great back then before i knew about pc racers but not anymore. its a 4/10 for me compared to other pc racers.

have you played any pc racers such has GTR2?

I've played rFactor and GTR Evolution. I haven't really stuck with any of them though as whilst they may be great sims, I haven't really found them much fun to play. It's possible that might be because the communities tend to be very hardcore racers... and I just don't have that sort of time to dedicate to playing to that level.

I always find myself going back to Forza 2 though, and GT4 before it.

wait, but how is forza 2 great with 8 players still, but forza 3 will be terrible because of it? You're the one who said 8 players is a dealbreaker. Presumably you would stop playing forza 2 now because 8 players in a racer = fail. You said it, not us. Justify it.

He did clarify. He said he thinks it's a 4/10 after playing other games.

ahh. I find it hard to read his walls of text with no punctuation or capitalization. Fair enough then. You'd think that gamers would be excited to play different games with different features, but reading many of these threads, apparently there are laws that I was unaware of that prohibit the playing of multiple games. If you like cod you can't like halo. If you like killzone you can't like gears. If you like MGS you cannot say anything nice about splinter cell. And god forbid if you like GT. Forza must not just be ignored, it must be destroyed at all costs.

It's ok to like steak and lobster folks.

To be fair, he hasn't given us "wall of text", his posts may lack capitalization but he has spread out his sentences enough that its not difficult to read. I just find it funny that you guys talk about his post as if its flame bait, but you guys took the bait hook line and sinker and have spent a page arguing over basically nothing.

Well said. i guess some people dont know the definition of "wall of text"

If you like steak, it doesn't mean that you need to like lobster too. Is someone doesn't like a game, there is no need for you to be all defensive. He is entitled to have his own opinion.

BTW, Mag will be 8 vs 8 on the screen, with 240 other players also playing, but not on the screen.

I am sure if Turn 10 wanted to remove all the physics in each car, they could have 16 on a screen just like GT5 (which has about 1/100th of the physics that Forza 3 is producing).

None of today's consoles have enough power to push 16 cars on the screen with those realistic graphics AND the physics domination in each car.

There are idiots out there who take every chance they can to shit all over GT solely because it's on a Sony console, not because they've played it and have valid criticisms. The opposite is also true. It's ok to not like lobster, you're right. But it's not ok if you've never tried lobster, or if you only say you hate it because Kraft foods makes lobster, and you're a general mills fanboy.

There are 3-4 people, yourself very much included, who seem to not be interested in anything other than badmouthing this game, so any further conversation would not be helpful. I know it's crazy, but personally I'll be waiting to actually play a game, or at least see much more comprehensive feature lists before I run my mouth. Unlike many, I don't think it's wise to slag something off on the basis of a screenshot or 90 second video.

So why did i post this?

forza 2 was great and this wil be a first day purchase for me also and a great way to clear the dust off my 360

if i wasnt interested in this game, why am i following this game? why am i in this thread? why did i post the above on the very first page of this thread?

Why cant i post negetivity of a game? there has been a load of info released on this game so far and people in general have different tastes. some may say having no rally racing is a deal breaker, while others like me see 8 players as a deal breaker too. i guess this thread is for forza fanboys only and no bad mouthing is allowed on this thread at all.

So i ask again, how is your above post relivant to me?

Is the only reason I am thinking of prebooking the LE, the dumbass USB drive is worthless.

Yes, two discs. You install one of them and run from one disc.

wow i didn't know that. i thought they was kidding when they said this game needed two disks.

im guessing one disk has the textures, cars and tracks while the other is with the game modes? what if your 360 doesn't have a hdd? Come to think of it i think your joking or being sarcastic. maybe the other disk is just some sort of special bonus disk with some behind in scenes making of the game sort of thing.

Admit it, you want that VIP tag. ;)

No, the second disk just has a bunch more cars / tracks. If your 360 doesn't have a HDD I guess that it's welcome to swap land (that and you're a filthy cheapskate :D ).

Admit it, you want that VIP tag. ;)

Hell yes, do you know how much more superior I will feel if I'm buying/selling in the Forza community with a VIP status next to my name.:p

Really though, a 2g flash keychain? what the hell were they thinking. Wait, I'll play Forza3 all night and take my Forza3 keychain to the office and I'll put some excel files on it and it will be awesome, but it will have absolutely nothing to do with the game.

That's why they use that whole "share your replays, screenshots" line. Of course, it's crap... but hey, on the bright side it's one of the nicest USB keys I've ever seen. :)

I thought that some people don't like mandatory install but I haven't heard any whining about the mandatory install of this game yet.
