ForceWare 158.19

I ran into an odd problem with the 158.19's. I cant seem to get Quake 4 to run for some reason. I haven't played it in months and last time I did was on older whql drivers, probably 2 releases ago and was no issue. All my other games run great and better than ever. Overall FPS/image quality and smoothness it improved. This Quake 4 thing is annoying though. Anyone else familiar with this issue?

I can get into the game browser and see available servers. I pick a server it drops to the desktop like always to initialize and would usually then take me to the load screen for whatever map the server is running and connect in. However now it goes to the desktop sits a few seconds with that small OGl window as if to goto the next step then I get the error. Quake 4 has encountered an error and needs to close. odd as hell. Any ideas?
 
Chalk up two more issues for me with the 158.19 betas. I installed these drivers over a freshly formatted Win XP install as well. My first issue was a CTD when playing BF2 1.41. That hasn't happened since wayyy back when, when we were all just getting into BF2 and I was having memory errors with the game. The second issue involved the CP randomly crashing as I tried navigating through the different menus to get a feel for the 'newer' CP in the 158.19 forceware set.

Interesting indeed. I don't think WinXP will allow you to add/remove software in Safe Mode using the utility in the CP.

And for everyone that says it's working "like a charm." Do you have temperature monitoring and fan control?

I had the same problem, but it only started happening after the second reboot. I too went back to old drivers. Anyone had any luck correcting this issue?

I've got temperature monitoring but fan control is "greyed out" for me - 158.19, XP, 8800GTS.

EDIT!! This is with nTune.
 
Well, I gave it another shot using what MrFace said was nvidia's "recommended" installation procedures. Just a waste of time. They're just as unstable as they were. BSODs and freezing when playing Oblivion in under 5 minutes. :(

Again... back to 97.94.

According to patch notes, temp monitoring was removed and put into Ntune.

I've always used Rivatuner to control fans. Ntune would never work.

Not out of the box, no. I usually put it up to 600/2000 when I play games, but with 158.19 it's unstable no matter what I have it at (OCing with ATiTool 0.26). Stock or OC'ed, it still BSODs or freezes. I even got screen corruption when WinXP was loading.

Hehe, yep. I played it for a good 2 months when it was released, ran into computer problems swapping harddrives around and never built up the desire to reinstall it and all my mods. I picked the game back up in January 07 after installing Vista. The forums are buzzing with activity, so it doesn't seem like there's any shortage of players. :)

Not interested in Supreme Commander or C&C3. I have STALKER, but put it down to devote some free time to Oblivion modding.

Me either. I read your post and tried it out. It starts running at a VERY high framerate for about 7-8 seconds and then crashes back to my desktop. I dunno if it's the drivers or the latest beta patch, but I can't run it either.
I'm on the 158.19's on Vista HP/32 using an 8800GTX.

I'm still running XP 32bit and will be for the forseeable future at least till fall when I put together a new build. I tried it before I installed the beta patch and after installed the beta patch still cant get it to run. I think it's a driver thing since I had no issue with Q4 on the 97's.

I have an 8800 on it's way to me as we speak. However, I'm a bit confused on which driver I should be using?

I've never been real driver-savvy, as I'm still running the 87.xx on my 7800gt. :D

So should I download these 158.19 for my card?

I'm going to give you an answer you hate, but it's really up to you. I've been running these drivers since release and I've had zero issues with them. They're not WHQL certified (or they weren't when I installed anyway) so if that bothers you, you may want to wait a bit. Otherwise though, I would say that if you game a lot, the performance increases with these drivers far outweigh any issues that the lack of WHQL certification brings up.

I'd go for it.

EDIT: specs in sig, I'm on XP sp2 as well.
