For Honor

Just played some of the For Honor open beta, it's fun!! EDIT: Apparently the tutorial part locks your framerate to 60 but once you are out of that it allows you to change it accordingly. Strange.

Mouse and keyboard controls work well too.

Glad there's an open beta. Downloading...going to try it asap!

I always have to take my hat off to anyone that is willing put free demos and/or closed and open beta of games out. That deserves kudos.

matchmaking is a mess compared to the closed beta...takes a lot longer 'searching' for online opponents

Meh, this just doesn't seem quite as interesting as I thought it would.

Also apparently everyone sucks more dick than me and I have like a 90% 1v1 win rate.

Yeah this game is just so in your face that it lacks character even God of War series is better... which could of been improved without PVP element and just a solid story and maybe better sounds and mechanics.

the more I play the more I like the game but I still don't see myself buying it...I'm really only into the 1v1 Duels and that seems like it'll get old pretty quick...I'm thinking the single player story will be pretty bad and with Nvidia cracking down on game code reselling I don't think I'll buy

Hang on, why are you comparing this to God of War? One is a spectacle fighter (GOW), and the other is a multiplayer fighting game (For Honor).

For what For Honor is, it's pretty darn good.

the game is unique with some depth and a pretty decent learning curve to master...if I had not known who the developer was going in I never would have thought it was a Ubisoft game

i'm digging this, but honestly, it seems a little thin for the amount of skin they are asking ($60). how long can you play this shit before it gets old?

I played it, and honestly, I already own Chivalry, which is kinda similar. For Honor just is the same thing over and over. The graphics look good and it is fun, for the first 2 hours, then meh... I know its just a beta, but considering it will be released in two days, I can't imagine enough change to warrant 60$. I would say this would be a no brainer at 14.99 on Steam. Any more, or the required use of Uplay, its a no go for me.

maybe if it was a battlefield type of scope (large maps, much bigger teams, more objectives, longer matches) it would be more worth the asking price. these matches are just too short (wait, quick match, wait more...) and the goofy faction war seems a little useless (especially given how dislocated it feels from random, very short matches). This should be $25 max. i like the combat more than chivalry, but really, they should have been trying to outdo chivalry on all fronts.

Same reaction as seemingly most others: I like some of the potential and what I see here... just not nearly enough depth and enough to keep me coming back. No way would I pull the trigger anywhere near full price for this as is.

This is one of those games that if I have a lull in between games in the summer or fall and I see some hot sale and it's $25 or less I'd consider it.

I like the game but I agree that it's not worth $60...if Nvidia hadn't cracked down on game code re-sales I would easily pick this up for $25...hopefully people discover some loophole which makes buying GPU codes possible again...this game will also live and die based on the player base and if the PC community is dead then there's no point in buying...I only play 1v1 pvp Duels so I need a healthy community...the PC community is notoriously finicky so I don't want to get burned like I did with Evolve

I spent a little time in the tutorial and watched some of it on streams. It has potential but yeah, not a full price buy for me. Keyboard controls were a little awkward with the mouse for guard stance. Also, apparently it is already over. 11pm CET aka 2pm PST was end time for the beta. Glad I got some play time in earlier today.

I have a feeling they'll need to do the free-weekends thing to promote this game (like they did with R6:Siege).

I was hoping for a good Single Player mode just to add some flavor to the sword and shield bashing.

I'll see what IGN has to say they could add some pretty imaginative bosses ect.. but not sure....

I don't mean this in a trollish way... I've never played Chivalry so I can't comment on that... but in a weird way this game made me want to throw down, take the shackles off, and get into something like a Dynasty Warriors type game.

I agree with this. I am kinda hesitant to put down $60 for the game after playing the beta.

It's fun, but not $60 fun.

I'm usually the type that will throw down $60 for the latest battlefield game though, except BF1 because I don't particularly like the WW1 genre they went with this time around.

The Combat is stiff sure you can break the mold and do whatever but it might not end up very well.

After trying the game out myself I'm not as hyped anymore. I tried being deliberate in my movements, but every fight turned into a waggle fest. I was killing people while not even knowing why. There was very little satisfaction to be had while playing this game, and as a result I'm skipping it. Maybe fights were more significant in early parts of development before they delayed it forever and a half.

the lack of any big new game releases (for PC) makes me want to pick this one up just because there's nothing else out (until late March with Mass Effect Andromeda and the final Dark Souls 3 DLC)...PS4 at least has Nioh and the upcoming Horizon: Zero Dawn

Got a backlog?

Looking forward to this, personally.

well considering I got kicked the 4 times i tried to play past the tutorial by the crappy anti cheat I'd say no go.

looks like the review embargo is release day so no early reviews...I'm expecting scores in the 7-8 range...I don't think the single player will be anything great and the game will live or die based on the multiplayer

A lot of the reviews will be written based on theory and concept rather than the final execution. From being in the numerous betas I can safely say that its core is good but the execution is where it fails. The peer-to-peer nature of its matchmaking, as well as the design of some of the maps leaves something to be desired. And as you say with all MP games, it lives or dies based on the players and I'm not convinced there will be a solid number playing in each of the modes daily.

Some reviews are describing it like Dark Souls combat crossed with Soul Calibur. That sounds appealing to me, but it could also be disastrous, too.
For the people playing it - what do you feel the learning curve is? If I wait 3-4 months will I be too far behind and get slaughtered?

Domingo: 3-4 months from now I expect you to have no worries because most people will have moved on to other things and/or never bothered.

That's my overall takeaway on this albeit a pessimistic one and frankly I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I wish this game better prospects then what I personally see for it.

Look at the feedback right here in this thread for starters:

"I liked it but"... *insert $25 or less talking point here with a bunch of caveats*...

^^ This is far and away the majority of the feedback I've run across this everywhere I've looked in regards to this game so for me it doesn't bode well for its prospects.

I realize that for every person that posts on the Internet there are x number of people that don't and will likely purchase this and be satisfied. That's this game's only hope IMO.

I hope that's the case here for this because if it isn't I think this is in trouble and its prospects are dubious based on the feedback I've seen and heard here and well abroad.

If this thing hits higher than 7/10s on average when it's all said and and done I'll be amazed. This takes into account the outlets that never saw a game they hate and then the others that almost never see a game they like. ;)

I would LOVE this game if they had good SP stories & quests + a 5 year business model.

My dream = $40 dollar game with 20 hours (+/-) of good SP stories & quests + MP.

5 years of MP server support + non-stop SP stories & quest content @ $20 for 10 hours (+/-).

They could do 5 SP stories & quests over 5 years or 15 or 50 - as long as the property was ripe & this game is ripe!

PS: FREE high res tex packs (like Fallout 4) + engine updates over those 5 years would be nice too.

Alas, most oft, all thou can doist - is but to dream...

The Eurogamer review makes it sound like something I'd be interested in. It's very tempting. I'm totally over MP FPS games, but I still have a fighting game and Dark Souls itch.

CD Keys jacked the price up by 10.00 as soon as they heard it was good or it was selling well enough.

you should have tried the numerous betas...it's a really fun game...has flaws but overall it's very un-Ubisoft- it's not a button masher at all, requires a bit of a learning curve to learn the fighting mechanics, none of the usual Ubisoft bullshit tower unlocks etc...I hope this succeeds because otherwise Ubisoft will go right back to their usual open world gameplay formula

even with dozens of hours in all the various betas I still haven't mastered all the intricate mechanics such as hidden stance, cancelling/faking moves going directly into another move etc

I would get it for the Story Mode but I rather play the last 4 Call of Duty Games in SIngle Player which I'm sure is way better.

So all the negativity around it and I really really enjoyed the beta weekends (had time to play a bit of 2 of them)

GMG has this for like 48, and I have a birthday coupon to knock it down to 45, so I think I'm going to pick it up. I only worked on 1 character (warden) the whole time, and just watched a video and realized there are 2 or 3 amazing move options I didn't even know about. And that's just 1 class. Plus medieval combat is just awesome to me compared to fantasy fighting games, so this one is right up my alley.

I didn't do anything but duel during the betas, so I still have all the other story modes and the SP to check out. I think I'll get my money's worth (though I do agree that this needs a community for the pvp aspect, so I hope it stays strong)

EDIT: Playing feels watching this kind of stuff to me:

The betas were fun and the core game is solid. I like the ongoing world battles, etc. Just can't force myself to shell out $60+ for it. Also, steam controller support was all jacked up and did not work at all for this game. I feel like you need a controller to maximize it.
