I bit on the Zune HD 64 Gb. Not expecting anything different from any other Zune HD's, but it'll be here tomorrow.

let me know how you like it dude. Im seriously about to pull a trigger on something, its either this or a Cowon J3. The ability to manipulate the sound and dial it in where my ears like it is huge to me.
Your first order of business is to sign up for the Zune pass trial. Your next step will be to download One More Time by Daft Punk and Audiosurf from the apps section.I bit on the Zune HD 64 Gb.
FWIW, I bought the Cowon S9 and the HD. The Zune has preset eq settings, that's it. The Cowon had literally hundreds of options and tweaks. I searched forums for the best settings and experimented for days on the Cowon, but never found anything I liked. And here's the irony...Zune HD sounds wonderful out of the box with no changes. The only tweaks I need on this device are volume up, volume down. Mated with the TF 10's classical, pop, rock, and trance sound amazing. The only other DAP I prefer over the HD is the Sony X, but that sold for $300, has loads of bugs and performance issues, and does not have the Zune pass. <---mind blown! Being able to view related artists while listening on your Zune and instantly expand your musical taste and variety kicks so much ass. Its just so full of win....its either this or a Cowon J3. Xfer both to the HD. Go nuts.

Edit: the s9 and d2 are very cold players, nothing ever came across as natural. The worst offenders were classical and electronic tracks. The zune on the other hand is more balanced with a wider range imo, especially the low ends depth. Why not order both from amazon and keep the one you like better?
I'm back with my Axim X51v PocketPC that I've had for 6+ years now. Still does a better job overall than any device I've yet to find and it's always there, rock solid and reliable, capable, expandable, and just the best device I've ever used personally. Maybe I should buy another one just in case this one tanks...
I've been playing around with Zune Pass and had a question for you Zune owners. When I download music from the Store using the subscription, it always puts it in WMA format. All my other stuff I ripped on my own is in MP3 format and being as OCD as I am, having some stuff in WMA and some stuff in MP3 annoys me. Is there anything I can do about that or am I screwed unless I pony up and buy the whole Album? I kind of figure I'm screwed...
I also don't like how it puts all my music that I download via subscription in a seperate "Subscription" folder on my PC. I have folders for all my music albums already, but now I have duplicate band folders inside the subscription folder with stuff in there as well. It's getting confusing as I add more music. Any suggestions there?
Haha, mines a mess too. Some in subscriptions, some in the root folder, and I never knew they were wma files this whole time. It all looks the same in the Zune interface.
Before I started using the pass, this would have drove me nuts. But now, it takes over everything and I could care less. I'll never use another player that's non subscription based.
Heard a song, downloaded the album, enjoyed the music...repeat.
Yeah, this is about the only issue with Zune Pass which is unfortunate and it seems to depend on what stuff you like as to how often this is a problem. I'm into Trance and there's a lot of gaps in that genre as well but I'll listen to about anything and there's always stuff to try and that's this service's greatest strength, finding new music.
Mind if I add you through Zune? Would that allow me to see your music library, tastes, etc?I'm into Trance...

Listening to Pandora today and heard Ebla by E.S. Posthumus. Not quite a trance song, more of an orchestra/electronic/choir combo, but amazing nonetheless. Never heard of these guys before and now I have an even bigger backlog of tunes.
I've had some pretty bad hiccups with my Zune but have been able to recover. Still using it so that has to say something.
fun story. Plugged the hd into my htpc overnight. Grabbed it in the morning for a weekend trip. Fired it up after a long day...nothing. no battery symbol, nada. Thought it was toast. Came home, turned on the tele to find my order # fer rma...no htpc. What kind of hiccups?

I pulled the surge from the wall before the trip...the NIGHT before the trip.
I do like Zune Pass except for one major problem. A lot of the bands I like are either not allowing the full album download (2-3 songs are "album only") which pisses me off, or their albums are not available for download at all. The biggest problem here, and I'm sure is not coincidence, is that it's usually the most popular songs that they want to charge me to download and I can't even use my credits for a lot of them. :-/
I don't have a Zune HD, but I've had a 80/120 and a Pass for a year and a half and I'm done with it. For the first year, it was perfect. Now I get artists removed or albums shifted around, which means the older versions of an album don't work. Even worse, syncing is just a horrible experience, especially when you have more songs than the Zune can hold. Once you overqueue, there's no way to undo it without clearing the Zune and starting over. :/ And then syncing will sometimes stall out or won't cancel, and you're screwed if you remove the Zune while it's syncing.
Right now, about 80% of the songs on my 120 are unusable. There's still on there and taking up space, and my Zune subscription is active, but when I try to play them, it tells me the usage rights have expired or the file can't be found, etc.
So yeah, I'm heading to a store to get a Cowon J3 now and I cancelled my subscription yesterday.
Seems most people want to carry their entire music collections with them when they're on the go. Me personally? I throw a few hundred songs on my Axim X51v, fairly random stuff most of the time, and I'm good for a few days. No way in hell I'd ever expect or want to carry a lot more, I suppose.
But for some folks it's everything. Now, I do have a 16GB SD card that I use for the X51v so I also put several movies at a time on it (~700MB Xvid encodes) of movies I like too but, even so I've never really maxed out the space on that card. I don't think I've ever put more than 12GB on it at one time...
