Watch Dogs specs

The first "Base" list stated that the game will only support 64-bit platforms, and will require 20 GB of space on the hard drive, a DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card with the latest drivers, and a broadband Internet connection for multiplayer mode.

Finally, the death of XP. Hopefully this will create a push for an 8 core i5 from intel and 8GB of memory becoming the min and 16GB standard in gaming rigs. I really want things to advance so the I can justifying selling my rig and moving to either an mATX or an ITX build.

So... while it isnt very good, there is an XP x64.....

just sayin, there's bound to be some asshole who's going to have an issue with it not working on the mediocre XP x64 release, and then complain about it not working on an OS that hasnt really seen any form of real support as far as I know - it just kinda.... was let out to graze in the field and they forgot about it.

According to steam Windows XP 64 bit hold a 0.34% share, down -0.01% from last month.

Only 43.83% have gone quad core.

Oh, shit, it didn't notice, I will fix it. Sleeping dogs was a fun game.

I didn't think about it before, but it's likely that that quad core adoption is so slow because of laptops.

It'll happen more what with the next gen consoles. They have 8GB of RAM and games are going to get to play with like 6GB of that. Now while that is shared system and video, that is still plenty of RAM and it'll lead to games being made that just won't fit in to a 32-bit execution space well, if at all. So we'll start to see 64-bit required.

They question is, will it cause more people to upgrade or a change in the standard configurations offered by system builders and laptops.

Even if it's not 64 bit only, it's nice that games are finally getting 64 bit versions at all.

The specs listed in that article are false. The game's producer, director, something like that Tweeted saying they're not the real specs.

Edit- http://www.incgamers.com/2013/10/watch-dogs-pc-specs-may-demanding

Not that surprising, since I can't see a game actually demanding an 8-core CPU unless it was a tie-in with AMD. You can't really get consumer 8-core CPUs at this point. Intel doesn't have any, 6 cores is all you can get and that is quite expensive. AMD's new stuff kinda acts like 8 cores, but when you read in to the technology, it isn't actually. It is 4 units, each with an instruction decoder, FPU, and cache. However each module then has two integer clusters that act separately, hence "8 cores" but not 8 cores in the same was an an 8 core Opteron. So wanting 8 cores would be the sort of thing you just wouldn't get in consumer systems.

What are the advantages of this? im assuming more better programming lines for more optimization and utilization of RAM and Cores?

64 bit client means it can use more than 4GB of ram. It may also be slightly faster. 64 bit clients were only a matter of when, not if.

By only using 64 bit client they can focus on optimizing the code. This is a plesant surprise.

Basically, this: http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/memory-limits-applications-windows

In a 32-bit environment an executable is limited to addressing 2GB of RAM. There are ways around it (Large Address Aware) but it can be problematic. The easiest and safest way to break that 2GB barrier is to force 64-bit.

Even if these Watch Dog specs are fake, it's going to start happening the larger and more demanding games get. I think it's safe to say were reaching the upper limits of what can be done with 32-bit gaming. Perhaps future releases will start coming in both 32 and 64-bit versions, with the 64-bit version being required to max out the games visuals.

How many of my machines does Steam count in the survery? I regularly connect to Steam from 2 desktops and 1 laptop, and only my main desktop has a quad core processor. Does that mean I'm counted 3 times?

If you're opted in, all 3.

Rather have game utilize dual/quad/eight cores instead have had dual core processors and quads for how long and nothing really takes advantage of them still.

Man, I'm ready to handle all the bits.

Seriously though, about fucking time. For the last 5 years, I've had every computer in my house on a 64 bit OS. And just NOW are they taking advantage of it. Fuck.

WoW had 64-bit client for like a year or so.

thank the gods
it solved a lot of add on issues too

looks like 2 core is a good min now as only 2% are rocking a single CPU still
avg PC that has steam on it is:

Win7 64bit
2.5Ghz 2 core Intel CPU
(throwing out on board video) 560 Ti with 1GB of vram
8GB of system ram
300GB HDD
1080p monitor

and the trend is moving to 4 core or more CPUs
give it a year and 4+ cores will be the norm
so i see no issue in a 4 core CPU as min req
or at lest a 2 core with hyper-threading

dual cores will still be around for qute some time before quads will dominate if u look at steam the trend still strong for it.
