Feasible upgrade, please suggest

Over 2 years ago, during Thanksgiving, I bought a Venice 3000+ and a DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D, promising myself that I would buy the rest of the parts. I still need a video card, RAM, and power supply, and now, Socket 939 is even phasing out!

Will a Venice 3000+ on Socket 939 even hold out? What upgrade should I take? Should I keep the DFI motherboard or switch to a better one on S939? (I don't want to upgrade to AM2 or Conroe)

And I saw an 8800GTS on newegg for like 280$, which seems like an amazing deal.

Recommendations needed.

Thanks.

WTF, the turkey just now wear off ?

Since you dont want to upgrade whats the problem ?

get the 8800, best pci-e graphics card available.
get fastest pc400 DDR (whatever that thing takes) you can afford
dump the cpu and get the newest fastest 939 supported by that board that you can afford.

I have to guess you are a gamer, since you mentioned the 8800. No the venice is done, toast, nada, bye bye, cya, doesnt even make a good paper weight.

For the price, the X2 3800+ is a good upgrade. Grab one of those, get at least 2GB of RAM total, and your 8800GTS and your computer should be fine for at least another year or more.

What about an Opteron 165?

Also, the Sapphire X1950XT @ Newegg has a combo deal with a X2 4200+. Is that worthit?

Also, if I do get the 8800GT, will it play DirectX10 games for me?

Opty 165 is also good if you like to OC. Sometimes it's more expensive than the 3800+ which OC's well also.

X1950XT and X2 4200+...depends on how much money you save in the combo. I wouldn't bite unless I wanted that card anyway and was saving more than $30-40 in a combo.

8800 series should play DX10 games at some level. I would anticipate decent performance for at least the first round of games unless DX10 games are super inefficient.
