Fatal1ty loses 11-1

Lotta wisdom here.

I agree:

1) 8 hours a day of fragging would be tiresome
2) anything you have to repeat over and over 8 hours a day becomes tiresome (except sleep)

Uh, oh yeah
3) a contest over powerups and armor is kinda lame.

has he even won a major tournament in the past year?

Are we talking about golf or computer games? Haha.

Anyway, I always find it funny that people have this unfounded skepticism or even hatred of this guy. The truth is he's a very mature, kind guy (read any of his interviews) who happens to be good at all sorts of FPS. Like many above me said, he doesn't seem cocky in the least and stays competitive in a large variety of games. Too bad he got beat but no one stays unbeaten.

Didnt fatal1ty get on some Cal-I team in CS after playing it for only a couple of months?
He was in 3D as they were rising in the CPL world but quit, as you said, after a few months. I forget why.

But frankly, someone who can sway the entire match of a game like battlefield depending on what team their on impresses me more than somoene who religiously gets good at a game that is ultimately decided on a single kill.
Agreed. Team games are where it's at. My main fps experience was with RTCW multi and later ET. Nothing felt better than switching from the winning team after the match to the losing team, and leading that team to victory. The best part about players like you mention is that they don't have to get the most kills (though they often obviously do). Often, though, they might be a medic who is capable of singlehandedly reviving most of his team, racking up (often) the most kills, and capturing the occasional command point. Ahh....I still remember the glory days on the Destruction map, 32 v 32.

heh, or the happy penguin server with the depot map, 32 v 32.

*looks for his copy of rtcw*

There's no shame in losing to Lauke. The guy is an absolute beast at ut2k4, and I'm pretty sure that is the only game that he plays. Whereas Fatal1ty has mainly been practicing Painkiller for the CPL World Tour, where he is consistently placing top 5. He could easily be placing top 3 at every event, but he's been really busy marketing his Fatal1ty brand hardware, I believe.

I'm a pretty big fan of Fatal1ty, I really enjoy watching him play, so I hope that by the time Quake4 rolls around, he'll be putting more time into his game, and placing better than he has been at Painkiller.

i wouldnt do it. Id rather stick with my crummy IT job than game for 8 hours a day. Unless of course you take me back in time to when Everquest 1 just came out.... i had no problem playing 14+ hours a day =P

but FPS games get dull after a while. You have to recycle them and play others
The thing is, I could easily put down 8 hours a day, on any game I have in my library. Simply put, I've grown into the habit of not only playing a game through, but playing it at as many angles as I possibly can, take in everything. Strengths, weaknesses, different scenarios. For some reason, when I decided I want to do game development, I have been looking at games in such a different way like this, plus it helps me to shaping up ideas that I have for the future.

if I could play for 8-12 hours a day I'd pawn his ass. :p

Same HERE!!! unfortunately I can't spend that kind of time gaming, plus now that i'm 32 my twitch skills are fading fast....

I used to kick some ass regularly online with quake1 and my 56k modem tho (even against isdn players at the time) when i was at my prime (10+yrs ago).

Exactly, it should be InstaGib so everybody has an equal chance

I like the way you think. I used to play Quake 2 instagib (mostly OSP Tourney mod) and you wouldn't believe the skills we had. Two guys flying through the air on the Edge, or some usermade arena map a mile long, (before zoom) with fast grappling hooks and able to hit over and over. Insanity!

Anyone remember NGSTATS? I think it was. I made it to the top 5 in that. Those were the days.

I honestly doubt that even if some of you had 12 hours a day to practice that you would ever get to their (Fatal1ty and Lauke's) level of play. It's a lot harder than some of you think.

yeah no kidding it sounds easy but its not.

Im a currently practicing for this years starcraft wcg and get in around 2 hours/day playing but im still only top 100 in canada.

He was in 3D in early 2003. He wanted to focus more on UT2k4.

Seriously though... they were playing on plasma tv's? I'm wondering how much those smear?

They were playing on LCD screens, the match was broadcasted on larger screen TVs though.

from what I have seen of him on tv... he doesn't seem cocky at all.. pretty soft spoken. Defintely not like some kids I have seen that play at the local lan parties. (he does "look" like he would be a punk tho) lol. Now that professional gaming has become mainstream (with sponsors and such) I think we are going to see much stronger competitions out there. I don't think there is many people on this board that "wouldn't" want their name on some pc hardware. I think it's good for the gaming industry.

I think all the haters need to go get into a circle jerk where they can all say to themselves how much better they are than mr. wendel while giving each other reacharounds.

grow up people, so someone is good at something. You dont see people going on espn.com saying "OMG OMG look what just happened, Schilling just got jacked for a home run, man if I could play baseball 8 hours a day I would sooo strike out Vlad every at bat!"

All the attention these people give to Fatal1ty is tiresome, so he is good at games, it doesn't deserve the amount of attention you all give him sometimes.

To be honest, Fatal1ty has never given off cockiness vibes to me. He tries to act like a bad ass as a marketing gimmick for all his shit but whatever. I believe he lost to both Lauke and CombatCarl in this UT2K4 shootout but I can tell you I saw it coming cuz like others said, fat hasn't played UT2k4 in months whiles these other guys are top competitive players and play it everyday(but not for 8 hours like you guys think). In Fat's defense, he did beat Gimix in this same shootout and Gimix is no chump either and plays ut2k4 way more than Fat does. The fact that Fat can still top players like Gimix is a sign of just how good of a gamer he is.

Even Superbowl winning teams lose a game or 4 =) Omg Tiger didn't make the cut, he must not be a god! Fatality is still the best. Period.

Just to let you guys know, Fatal1ty just placed 2nd at CPL Brazil, right behind Vo0 (Who's only lost 1 Painkiller tournament ever :O), he's definitely not a chump. Scores were:

Vo0 > Fat 12-11
Fat > Vo0 14-18
Fat > Vo0 11-14

Vo0 > Fat 12-8
Vo0 > Fat 7-6

As for Randy here is a good demo of Fatal1ty playing CS with his team (iFate), I remember watching the match live and Fat got around 30 kills in their Terrorist half - he completely dominated.

dude 4 min match? r u kidding me? Thats the most retarded thing ever heard. Heres what i would do. Get the amour frist.. get a lucky kill and hide for 3 mins.

I still think that this is damn impressive: "During the 3 days of the shootout, Fatal1ty scored over 1200 kills while the combined total of all the challengers was -5."

To be a game master you must master all games, but anyways I prolly would get smoked in almost all matches, as Im only a good player, not able to top alot of players still though.

Flying head shots sounds impressive. Are there demos of his play anywhere?

Fatal1ty is still the better gamer IMO.

He is incredibly good at ANY game he plays, which is a lot more impressive than being good at just one game.
Still, props to the two guys who won. Especially the 1-0 guy :D

I fondly remember the ownage I would instill with my glorious Panther XL. Sadley, they do not make it anymore. THAT was a great stick. I may have to see if there is anyone keeping the faith with XP drivers and some repair kits as that puppy got a lot of use. I have never been as good returning to mouse and keyboard

Just doing a minor google perusal, I see there are still lil communities that keep the faith with this awesome stick. Logitech ought to buy the design and reintroduce it. It was quite possibly the most innovative controller I have ever seen. Boo to Madcatz for discontinuing it. Some people have multiple sticks, I wish I had the forsite back in the day to pick up a few spares. :(

i dont know who the fuck he is. and i dont care. i lost my virginity at a MUCH younger age than he did. so i win.

This necroposting stuff has to stop.
Also, can you guys grow up a bit.
