Fallout: New Vegas

After Alpha Protocol I don't have a lot of faith in Obsidian right now. I was planning to pre-order, but I'm going to wait until after it comes out to even consider buying it.

I'm getting Fallout: New Vegas the day it is released. Without a single doubt.

I didn't have much faith in Obsidian after KOTOR 2, much less Alpha Protocol. However, in the case of Fallout 3, I'm not sure if I'll be able to resist. At least with Fallout, the engine and foundation is already there -- hopefully they've had enough time to craft a great story/environment.

what i just picked up fo3 goty edition for $29.99 and a new one is coming out this year? i need to get on the damn bandwagon lol. im bout to watch that video and see how it looks...

that video was disappointing lol i was hoping to see more

cool from the look of the vid it looks like they took emphasis off vats and more into 1st person shooting thats cool

that looked good graphic wise
i still have to install and play fo3 goty on pc lol

The first video was content that was posted weeks/months ago.

But anyways, looks like a winner to me

That doesn't mean anything. Some people are just very impatient and have to constantly be shooting things or their mind wanders. Shooting just 'looks cooler' than VATS for trailers. In FO3, you waste tons of ammo simply 'shooting' if you don't use VATS.

VATS is still in and they improved it to include better support for melee.

Alpha Protocol is a mess. Coming off taking that for a test spin definitely has diminished their luster in my eyes considerably. KOTOR 2 had some issues but that thing was far and away a masterpiece across the boards vs. Alpha Protocol.

It would take a lot for me to not get this game on day one but my concern and worry level has risen exponentially coming off Alpha Protocol.

KOTOR2 is excusable as LucasArts screwed Obsidian over and never let them properly support the game past release. And KOTOR2 was better than the original in some ways even, quite possibly could have been on every level if it were finished. AP? Ugh....

Didn't seem ground breakingly different gameplay probably mainly more story and places to explore. Fine with me. I'd rather have small improvements over major change that breaks an already great gameplay.

"Sawyer explained that there wasn't a lot of development time for New Vegas, and because a lot of people played Fallout 3, the developers didn't want to make any drastic changes--just improvements to the existing controls."

Great sign........sigh.

What?

NO!

I owdn FO3, VATS wastes a crap load of ammo.

I'm maybe 90% accurate in normal FPS and like 85% in VATS long range.

VATS is for noobs with no skill.

Maybe they will actually make it a good game compared to Fallout 3?

Umm, vats does more damage even if you can get head-shots with out it.

If New Vegas doesn't have bullet time mode as an optional alternative to VATS, I'm not going to play ..... just kidding... heheh, I'm going to get a bullet time mod, or make one if no one else will.

Any long term player will find New Vegas to be nothing less than awesome, especially after the mods kick in.

I really don't get how people don't like fallout 3... but to each his own I guess.

Personally, I'd call it one of the best games of all time. It's definitely in my top 5.

Haters gonna hate.

I loved Oblivion, I loved Fallout 3 and I'm sure I'll love New Vegas.
Those two games will forever have a place in my heart, a place full of happy memories and great moments.

Not really. Almost everyone who played it on the PC needed a ton of mods to make it playable/enjoyable.

I think this might be a matter of preference - the overwhelming majority of positive reviews from professionals and gamers (on this forum, too!) speaks to how good the game is. I'm sure there are a number of mods out there that enhance the game further, but to say that it needs them to be enjoyable is an exaggeration.

I really enjoyed Fallout 3 and look forward to New Vegas bringing more of the same, hopefully with a more satisfying story.

I played through the whole game and all the expansions before I ever touched mods on the pc version and the game rocked. That being said some of the mods are pretty awesome -- really cool extra houses, etc. I had some freezing issues with the game, but really enjoyed it. It is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I should also point out that I played Oblivion after I played Fallout 3...

I do wish that this new game was GFW LIVE so that it would have some integration w/ all of my friends who play on xboxes only, not to mention achievements...

NEED TO MAKE A SEMI MMO BASED OFF FALLOUT WITH NO QUICK TRAVEL AND NO VATS!!!!

thats the kinda world i want to live in.

Interplay is supposedly working on a Fallout MMO. Supposedly being the key word here.

I could understand the argument that Oblivion almost requires mods. But maybe that's because I'm a heavy heavy mod user. Fallout 3 is really a step up. Things are done much better out of the box. The need for mods (if any) is far far less than the need in Oblivion. That said, FWE mod really enhances things very nicely.

Heh, I hope GFW LIVE is optional. The thing had to be shut down by mods in order for other mods to work with F3.

How could anyone hate fallout 3?

I mean hell, you have almost unlimited options as far as how to pursue the game. The only things I would do is update melee combat to a system like the Riddick games.

I will grant that Fallout 2 was still a better game, but for the first one not to come from Black Isle studios, 3 was an awesome effort.

I hope the old black isle guys at Obsidian make new vegas better than 3.

I was a rabid fan of Fallout 1 and 2, but was disappointed with 3. Probably didn't help that I played Oblivion (which was great) just a few weeks prior. To me, FO3 felt like a near carbon copy of Oblivion: same gameplay, same houses, many of the same voices, etc. I replayed FO3 a year later and developed a better appreciation for it but still thought it paled compared to 1 and 2. Still, I'm very much looking forward to New Vegas.

Not true for me. The mods just made it even better.

What did happen to a lot of people, though, including me was it took forever for Bethesda to make this thing somewhat stable.

4-5 patches I think? This game was an unstable mess out of the box for a lot of us that bought it on day one but that's typical Bethesda.

Playing a Bethesda game with the freeze and crash to desktop at random occasions is just a fact of life.

awesome, I loved FO3 and will deffinitly be buying New Vegas on release day. I just hope they don't put a ridiculous level cap in place like they did part 3.

When I found out about the (original) level cap, I was so bummed that I stopped playing for close to a year (until most of the expansions were released).
