Fallout 4

I have the same BenQ monitor, curious as to what your R G B settings are at? I have OCD when it comes to image quality on monitors/TVs. I never feel like I get my image settings right, always feel like it could be better. I downloaded the profiles for the monitor and fairly certain I installed them right but I don't know if they did anything. So what are your Red Green Blue numbers? And brightness/contrast?

I have a pretty good profile for this monitor. I also have the settings set to manual with a bunch of changes made. I know its still not perfect but its a lot better than out of the box.

I am really liking how they've done the special/perk system this time around.

Also it's going to be great trying to find the magazines and things that grant you perks (IE Grognak the Barbarian granting the barbarian perk). Hopefully there's some really cool/secret perks hidden in the world.

I'm never happy with my 24" BENQ I use it on Photo Mode and have the brightness turned way down. Been using my 27" IPS ASUS despite the 60hz...

I used FPS1 mode and RTS mode just looked like ass no matter what I did....I don't use Blue Reduction cause of the flashing when I turn it down to 60hz when switching monitors around with Windows key P.

Ohh... Yeah the FPS1 mode looks like ass. It's horrible. I configured mine based on some online guides and I've gotten it pretty good. There's also color profiles that you can apply, but I don't know if they changed anything for me. If you want I can PM you my current settings and you can try them out... They're WAY better then FPS1...

Yeah, like I was saying to comix I changed all my settings per some online guide. I knew before buying the monitor that the preset profiles sucked, but once I found those guides I decided to go for it. I have it looking pretty good I think, but I was curious about the RGB as I haven't decided what really looks best yet with variations in those.

The fuck? Is Bethesda gone full retard or is this going to be another one of those NVIDIA games?

The fuck?

If it's not a typo, it's either an unoptimized piece of shit or it's from the future.

From all the parts of these absurd system requirements, your problem is with that? Really? It's a 64-bit game. Welcome to the 21st century.

GTX 780 / 290X recommended?

Unless the PC version of Fallout 4 has super-duper-puts Crysis 3 to shame-graphics, or the person who did those system requirements was high, this looks like it's going to be an unoptimized POS.

Skyrim was a disaster for AMD at launch.

Current consoles have AMD graphics. What's their excuse now?

I had absolutely no problems with my HD 6950 when Skyrim launched. There were problems across the board, but I'm not sure if "disaster" is the accurate term to use.

Ummm.. these requirements aren't bad at all? I'm failing to see how a GTX 780 that was released over two years ago is excessive? 8GB ram.... 8GB of DDR4 is inexpensive enough much less DDR3....
I figured more complaints would be about the CPU requirements vs. RAM or GPU.

And for goodness sakes, who doesn't run a 64-bit OS now a days (that uses this forum).

Sure, this is all a matter of perspective, you'll look at my rigs and see that I obviously have money to spend on this stuff, but I do know the value of money. I just think its a stretch to think that the recommended requirements are a stretch.

Same as always, payola, it's no secret Nvidia is in bed(esda) with Bethesda :p

I mean, to insinuate that

GTX 550 ti == HD 7870
GTX 780 == R9 290X

Ugh...

Ummm.. these requirements aren't bad at all? I'm failing to see how a GTX 780 that was released over two years ago is excessive?

Why are some people so obsessed with age? It's excessive because the game looks average.

Because the game looks like shit.

I'm just happy it's finally a native 64-bit title.

But yeah, given the graphics we've seen I don't see how it justifies these requirements.

Subjective. Dunno how many videos you saw but some of the environments looked downright phenomenal to me.

Anyway, people jumping up and down over the min/max sys requirements is oft as fuck. As if they've ever mattered. Theres the recommended, and then there's how the game actually plays and benches - almost always different.

The game is average looking. That's not subjective.

High system requirements + average looking game == High probability of being an unoptimised piece of crap.

I mean, we can speculate, right? We can discuss it, right? Or is that heresy?

You don't understand what subjective actually means then. In any case you definitely shouldn't buy it if that's your opinion. Or wait for reviews, etc.

Whatever you say, man.

BTW, The Witcher 3 has lower recommended system requirements. You're not going to say that Fallout 4 graphics are on par with TW3, are you? ;)

Personally I'm not worried about the requirement. Those resources are probably common among people who invest in PC gaming anyway. The most important thing is the game has to be stable, and playable. If it takes 8GB of system RAM to achieve that, then so be it. Most of us would already have that 8GB of system RAM anyway.

Because the game looks like shit.
I don't think graphic quality is the only factor here. Take for example Civilization 5. Nothing special about the graphics, but the game do use a lot of system RAM and CPU resources when you are playing in huge maps and many AI opponents. Those resources are simply used for other game logic purposes.

Of course we don't know how Fallout 4 will be using them. But I'd imagine that to run a huge open living world, you'd need some additional resources.

I'm going to assume here that Fallout 4 @ 4k will run much faster than Witcher 3 @ 4k on my main rig.

And if "average looking" isn't subjective.... can you define what that means exactly? I get the nature of what you are saying, but it is subjective.

Couldn't agree more....
Let's discuss, not fling mud from here to vault 111.....

Hmm... without wading through the first 50 pages or so of this topic...

...does anyone know why the Nvidia gpu requirement (min) is so much lower than the AMD counterpart? Is this game more optimized for Nvidia cards to justify the discrepancy?

the Fallout games were never about the eye candy so I'm not surprised or bothered by the system requirements...the graphics do look better then any of the previous Fallout games but it's no Battlefront or Crysis 3...system requirements are mostly BS anyhow- people with high end hardware want crazy high specs to justify their rigs while mainstream gamers want lower specs to be able to play the game...the official requirements are a middle ground to appease everyone

why is the minimum Nvidia GPU recommendation a card with 2GB VRAM yet higher flagship models like the GTX 580 only come with 1.5GB...so is the card or the VRAM of more importance?

From all the parts of these absurd system requirements, your problem is with that? Really? It's a 64-bit game. Welcome to the 21st century.

It's a console port. None of the consoles it's for have more than 5GB memory available to the game. If it needs almost twice the RAM of a console just to perform at a minimum acceptable level (worse IQ than a console), it's an unoptimized mess on the PC.

The game is average looking. That's not subjective.

High system requirements + average looking game == High probability of being an unoptimised piece of crap.

This.

I know, right?
Games are starting to go faaar beyond the 32-bit, 4GB limit.

I don't think Fallout 4 is going to actually use the full 8GB, but they are stating this number as it includes both the OS, background services/programs, and Fallout 4; 8GB of RAM is not unreasonable for this.
Hell, Far Cry 4 used over 5-6GB of RAM by itself, not counting the OS or anything else running, and that game is almost a year old now.

I love this, people whined about how the last-gen consoles held games back so much.
Now things are being designed with an 8GB system memory envelope, and people's minds are blown that this much memory could be used for an "unoptimized" game.

Um, if these weak-sauce current-gen consoles can handle games with that memory envelope, I'm pretty sure your gaming systems will be able to handle them as well. ;)

Whew ... what a relief ... I worried that this hadn't turned into an NVidia vs AMD debate ... thanks for stepping up guys ... now I can relax ... I was afraid we would only be discussing the game until it was released :D

only 4 weeks left...hopefully there won't be any game crippling bugs at launch like with New Vegas...that Gamebryo/Creation engine is always buggy

Actually I was sorely reminded of the word 'optimized'

Haven't seen the word for a while and I thought we were already past that point.

I guess not.

What would be the cheapest way to get it? Currently with a 20% off code on greenman gaming it's $48. Anything out there with a better deal? I don't mean right now either, any place to look out for a better deal before it comes out?

I have a pip-boy edition coming but I don't plan on opening it. My second copy I got from GMG for about the same price.

I used a 23% off a month or 2 ago on GMG, and then a week or 2 ago another 23% off for the season pass.

Your not going to open it?
all though i can see the appeal as a collector. I will very much be opening mine and playing with it.
All i need now is to find a web site that sells blue vault jump suits.

I hope there is a camera mode that is similar to the way The Witcher 3 looks. I hate FPS view on RPGs.

I'm debating it. I may just go digital and cough up the physical edition. I've been burned a lot on the "let me buy this and see if fetches value" and then it doesn't trap. Not sure if that thing is really going to fetch value.

Psh...fuck that, I'm wearing my Pip-Boy around at work like a Pip-BOSS.
