Fallout 4 PC System Requirements

That's some fairly steep recommended requirements, good thing my 980ti is on order :D

How long before the internet is full of posts claiming that Fallout 4 is a terrible game that's incredibly unoptimized because my Q6600 with a Geforce GTS 250 and 4 GB of RAM can't run the game at max settings @ 1080p 60 fps?

You mean that mid-range system from 2008 won't be able to play a high-profile title from 2015?!
Unoptimized garbage!!!1 :p

btw, awesome system in your sig; dat CPU. ;)

This is the gaming equivalent of the famous George Carlin description of driving ... if they are going slower than you then they are an idiot, if they are going faster then they are a maniac ... same rule with games and systems ... if the requirements or more than you have they did something wrong, if the requirements are less they did something wrong ... since there is no real Goldilocks zone for computers the developers might as well go high than low

I would say MGSV: Phantom Pain is pretty close to that. Runs great, looks great, no insane requirements.

How well do you guys think an i7 2600k overclocked to 4.5GHz will do? I've got it paired with a 980Ti and 32GB of RAM.

You will be fine. After all, its Gamebryo were talking here. :p

More like "sortof" realistic. No game is perfect, but the bullet physics are pretty damned good, taking into account adjusting sights for bullet drop over distances, and having to lead targets running side to side.

Certainly not to the same degree as RO2, but that's something I always liked about the STALKER series. Bullet physics including drop. At least the first game feature it, dunno about the sequels for sure.

I wonder if the decision to recommend the i7 and FX9000 CPUs is due to the game being highly threaded or just because those SKUs happen to have the higher clock speeds in their respective lineups.

I'm hoping it is the former and that the game does indeed utilize the resources available. But I lack faith in Bethesda's ability to refine their engine well. Anyone remember that one Skyrim mod (TESVAL/"Acceleration Layer") that streamlined instructions sent to the CPU and got people double-digit frame gains? An official optimization was made eventually, but the implications of such an oversight worry me.

Gamer's problems...

Are you pretending to be ignorant? Or do you know nothing of PCs and need approval for your system?
If you are PC knowledgeable in the slightest....you know the answer.

I think the former. Cool it bro. Just a sick dude dealing with a corneal ulcer and needing a quick answer, which I got. :p

thats it I am done. I can't stretch this old c2d e6850 @ 3.8ghz abit ip-35 any longer. last game it ran fine was tomb raider. played that flawlessly along with my r9 285. played witcher 3 at 30fps but couldn't keep it up and would studder bad at times.

i have fallout fever so bad :(
Save up for a year or maybe even two and get the ultimate edition + build an up to date rig.

I don't think my 2600k/gtx 970 will have problems playing this game.

I like my system requirements much better. Xbox One gaming console needed... have that so good, I can play the game. <runs and hides>

so the Creation engine is just an updated version of the Gamebryo engine...I don't think the game is going to match the graphics level of those requirements

I remember a long time ago while at Incredible Universe off Northwest Hwy in Dallas. I was reading the requirements for a game. Hard drive space required was 20MB and I thought, DAMN! Now even 30GB is no surprise.

My first desktop had a 20MB MFM Hard Drive :p

I Enjoyed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as well.

IMHO, the sequels only got better and added to the game.

If you enjoyed Shadow of Chernobyl, I'd encourage you to go back for another go at it with Call of Pripyat. They expanded many of the dynamics, weapons repairs and customizations, etc. I'd skip Clear Sky, though. While there were some engine/game improvements in Clear Sky, the story was weaker than the other two,.

interesting requirements.

I'm sure my Pc will do just fine, if not well I will just go out spend absurd amounts of $$ only to go from high to ultra in game :-D

My thought of the i7/ AMD-FX under recommended is that development on the highly threaded consoles will finally start to show advantages with CPUs with 8 threads.
This will only be amplified as we move into the DX12/Vulcan era. 4 threads will become second class very quickly.

Hmm.. despite the i5 for a minimum.. I wonder if my G3258 will run it? I'd hate to have to buy a $200 4690K (I still want the overclocking) to play Fallout...

landmark pushed twelve threads on an i& hex core my guess is that it could push sixteen threads on an i7 octocore. But that is technically beta software that is on the bad burner so to speak... I was watching the heat and threads the other day and noticed that on my system the threads seem to jump between cores to prevent thread lock or save on heating up the processor.... I let it run under heavy load for about forty minutes trying to figure out what I could do to stop the fan from running my system ran cooler until I ran it under really heavy load for about six hours when I nearly destroyed the memory chips.

Just my speculation but I think it'd run better than you expect it to. I'm on an i3-2100 with a 6850hd, both processor and video card are below the min requirements for witcher 3, and witcher3 is playable on low at 1080p. it runs even better after a few edits of the rendering file. I'm actually quite surprised how decent 'low' looks. The only thing I'd wait on is to see if the game will let you launch if it detects less than 4 cores.

It actually has nothing to do with the CPU, this would be windows thread scheduling causing the load to jump from core to core. It happens all the time, not sure if Windows 10 did anything on this front. Was an actual problem when the FX cpu's were released, as the windows thread scheduling would commonly assign load to cpu cores within the same module. Since the FX modules share resources this resulted in a performance drop, if the thread scheduler didn't assign the other loads to a different module. They released a patch which helped optimize the occurrence / performance.

Just buy a Xbox. With it you also get access to amazing games like Forza.
