F1 2011 available Sep 19th

i believe the slow cars in qualifying are due to the AI's warm up/cool down laps.

Could be - I usually qualify at the beginning of the session, and then go back out at the end if I'm not happy with my position - so maybe they are turning in hot laps in the middle. I'll have to try later and see.

Ugh. I can't believe Codemasters is still having trouble with save games with this franchise. Twice now I've ended a race and had it not autosave the progress - it is like it forgets how to autosave, and no matter what you do after that, it won't save (advancing to the next race, changing control settings, even saving manually). Last time it just cost me a nice race at Catalunya, but this time it cost me a posium at Monaco - and to top it off, now it looks like the save file is corrupted, because whenever I try to run the game it crashes to desktop right after it shows "checking storage devices". And, of course, I believed that there was no way they be so idiotic again this year, so I hadn't been bothering to backup my save games - so there goes half a career down the toilet.

Edit: Found a workaround on the Codemaster's Forum - you can delete one of the savegame files and replace it, and all you seem to lose is the custom key settings. So all I lost was my sweet podium at Monaco. Still can't believe they are having the same problems this year.

I'm still struggling with a solution for the loading crash (not the load on first launch necessarily, but any time after that too). Often I'll have a great practice/quali/race and after it supposedly saves and starts to load the next segment, it crashes. Frustrating..

I guess i've been lucky with both versions. the only "bug" i came across was the wheel lag that i talked about earlier.

Ah finally. Barely had time to play this, but I tried the first career race a couple days ago and couldn't even make it around the first lap without losing the rear. Qualifying times also were pretty crap. Just had no traction going around corners.

So tried a car setup I saw posted on a another forum today. Shaved 2 seconds off my lap time first try, 3 sec the 2nd go around. Now it feels like I'm driving a RB7 :).

Was it setting the springs to 11?

No :). I spoke too soon though, I tried it for the career mode at 20% race length, after 1 lap my tires are completely toast. I caused a huge wreck and escaped unscathed, then the safety car came out and I couldn't even keep it on the track going like 50mph lol.

Spent more time playing with the G27 profiler, eventually said fuck it and turned tire simulation off. Just want to have fun in the limited gaming time I have.

Finding the right wheel settings are really frustrating me. Why can't Codemasters just say what the settings actually do, instead of the "straight line" crap they have now. I've tried everything but I still can't find a good 1:1 linearity for my Momo wheel.

Try between 200-240 for deg of rotation, and everything in game zero....but you can add some sat if you want, but start low.
Using my G27 and the fastest engineer set up, I do 1min 21 at Melbourne in Time Attack.....no 11/11 enabled.

I've been running 0% linearity and 10% saturation and I'm making it work, but it doesn't seem like the car turns very well at low speed (it is hard to get around hairpins like Canada and Monaco). The really frustrating thing is the pedals - I have 0% dead zone but it seems like there is still a big deadzone and then the power comes on all at once. Makes it hard to feather the throttle around sweeping curves. I've tried a bunch of settings and nothing seems to change it - but that may be a limitation with my wheel, not the game.

PC patch is out on steam, 11/11 is gone, car feels better on the front, and more grip at the rear, but times are slower than before.

MP was working fine as well.

Career mode has serious potential, but need to put more time in.

sigh, crossfire still broken in-game for me. the menu works better though.

I still got the loading screen crash despite editing one of the files, so I reloaded an uncorrupted savegame and I'm back in business, though I was using silly rapture, maybe that's the cause.

Anyway, speaking from a SP POV, I really like this game, all aids off and the AI on the harder modes are a serious challenge at some tracks/most tracks, and this is ideal as it's no fun to blast the AI away.

As for career, I've given up on it, especially as I can pick any car I want and either do a custom GP or an entire season, so basically the same deal as career but I get to be in the cars I want.

Wet weather, yes indeed, I'm 2 seconds faster with the aids on compared to off, but AI are still fast, so wet weather is fun and even with aids on you struggle a bit under brakes and must feed your throttle at times+ there's heaps of times where u just can't see squat, as I imagine it is IRL due to the rooster tails.

I really think for a simcade driving model, this is without question one of the best.

With the exception of Dirt3, I don't think any games career mode is worth a damn, but the options this game allows, and how well both KERS and DRS* work, this could easily become one of my favourite racing games of all time.

*Kers and drs isn't some form of godmode, it must be used strategically but will allow you to overtake, but just like IRL, some tracks have better drs zones, and some are near useless, either way, at it's best, drs-ing someone is very satisfying.

CM's probably annoyed many people with 2010, but from a SP POV, this is miles better, works beautifully with my G27 and in the wet{with or without aids} you'll need to be a good driver, so after having put some more time in, I fully recommend this as good ole fashioned fun.

I would never recommend this if it had a stale/boring driving model or if wheel precision sucked hard, but on both counts it's pretty good, and I've yet to truly experiment with 100% race distances, this is where I suspect wet weather{choosing dynamic in options} will really kick in and could change the outcome of the race.

I feel sorry for anyone without a G27 for most racing games, but the G27's paddles kickass with this game, and it's plenty of fun trying to correct oversteer in both the wet and dry.

I'm not sure how CM's can improve on this now, other than some obvious bug fixes and maybe allowing for manual pit control.
I'm still plugging away with my 3yr old e8400+4850 and running this at 1080p with a mix of ingame settings and GFX are decent, truth is F1 2010 was never as gorgeous as many tried to make out, but this time round cockpit and tcam are more detailed, and this is still the best wet weather of any racing, game, heck of any game period.

PC patch is out on steam, 11/11 is gone,

I'm not a 100% sure 11/11 is gone from MP and I'm not sure if everybody was forced to apply the patch....either way, I'm no fan of this games MP.

Did I say the diff between aids off and on in the wet is 2seconds, well scratch that, maybe it is at Melbourne, but at Shaghi, it's more like 4-6seconds.
It'd be nice if you could activate DRS is the wet though, but Kers still works.

Don't buy this for MP, and as I said before, get a decent wheel like a G27, as this bitch is alive in the wet and is heaps of fun.

In the dry, Button overtook me down the long back straight, but I re overtook him with DRS the next lap, and then we had a bingle, lol.

k, installed a new HDD and a 6850, so I'm reinstalling this, and hopefully my replay woes and savegame corruptions are history.

ah ha, HUGE decrease in loading times, going from WD cavier Blue to Samsung 1 t spinpoint....also I notice the replay system isn't half bad, but does anyone know if it records 100% race distances?

Steam have F1 2011+Dirt3 bundle for $34.00.....peanuts for 2 awesome games[with a wheel}.
My lowly 6850 is maxing both of these......
