F1 2011 available Sep 19th

for some reason i cant get the steering dialed in. its like it has a lag. also, depending on the cars speed the amount of wheel rotation needed to make the car turn changes?

quick changes of the wheel are impossible. if i turn 90 degrees quickly it takes the game a second to "catch up"...wtf.

gonna make a video here in a minute.

edit:

wtf...just restarted the game and went into time trial(had been doing career) and the steering is COMPLETELY different...it actually reacts to my inputs.

ugh, hope this isnt and ongoing issue with this game. i want my wheel settings to stay the same when i exit/restart the game!

do you think it has to do with the assist settings?

i have all assists off except pit lane. there is no steering assist...i have no clue!

im still messing with it. ill post if i come across any solution...

alright, got it working. no lag.

i had to unplug my G27 and load up the game with only the keyboard as a controller. After I restarted it again with my G27 plugged in it worked great, other than a HUGE deadzone with my wheel, even though the settings were at 0%. I changed Saturation to 10% and the deadzone went away. I have instant feedback now and full steering range in-line with my hand movements.

seafoam, you run eyefinity, right? i have to go into graphics options everytime I load the game to correct the aspect ratio. I don't have to change anything, just enter the graphics options menu...very odd. I guess it could be worse.

Is it keeping your choice of control when you exit? I have mine setup as Custom and it keeps the settings correctly (saturation, mappings, etc), but everytime I load the game the control input is set to Keyboard and I have to change it back to custom. Frustrating. Also can't quite get the wheel set up right (and of course I already uninstalled 2010 so I can't see what I had set there).

It's saving controls for me after an exit. I'm strictly using the wheel to get me through menus and such though. Unplugging my wheel for a full loading pf the game seemed to have fixed my problems, maybe give that a shot?

Damn, video games will never capture the proper sound cars make in racing games. I wonder if they ever considered incorporating the raspy noise of the blown diffuser into the game.

I'll give it a shot. What are you using for wheel settings (saturation, linearity, etc)?

Volume seems really low to me - I have it set to 100%, but the engine noise, etc, is very quiet compared to other games. Using the Rapture audio.

i have steering saturation at 10%. everything else is at 0. i may still tweak some more, but for right now its good for me. im just glad its playable!

the engine noise sounds fine to me but im just using software audio.

I've never understood Codemasters' wheel settings. You'd think that for a wheel linearity should be at 100% (mapped 1:1) but it doesn't seem like that's what they mean by linearity (their help tooltip talks about helping with a straight line, which doesn't make any sense to me).

sounds pretty damn accurate to me.. as far as the blown diffuser, i doubt it will be added given that its being made illegal in F1 after this season. other thing is that theres no way in hell race teams will give up the performance gain information to a game developer to use it in a game so i'm sure they left it out.

i noticed they added sound for gearbox gear changes. i hear them from my surround speakers. ive always liked codemasters sound design. they seem to hit the nail on the head every time.

ive also noticed if you go off line u can hear the marbles flinging up and hitting the car. masterful, imo.

I do run Eyefinity, I don't know if mine is doing that or not since I have had to mess with the graphics settings every time and I only have had one actual driving session with it. I'll try it out here a bit later.

I should've probably said I don't actually own the game.

But from watching replays of posted on YouTube, the game, like other such as GT5 and Forza, make the cars sound more like a humdrum drone instead of the intensity of a real car. In the cockpit view, it sounds about right compared to footage from the actual on-board cameras, but again watching replays outside the car you just don't get that sense of ferocity these cars have. And as far as I can tell, the Renault Lotus R31 doesn't even sound unique to the rest of the pack! The comment about hearing the tire marbles hitting the car/helmet is a really neat touch though.

Not here to start trouble, but this is just something that's been nagging me for ages. Racing games will never have the pure sound of a car crackling on the overrun when it's barreling into a corner and especially for a Formula 1 game, where engine sound is such a key figure, that is a shame. That's not to say that the effort Codemasters has made is at all anywhere near mediocre. I love that Anthony Davidson played a key role to the development of the previous game that laid the foundations for this season's iteration.

I'll just leave this here so you guys have an idea of what I'm talking about. Oh and be sure to turn up your speakers...http://youtu.be/BmGgvHflXgc

Well, the safety car implementation isn't perfect. I was in the lead when the safety car came out in the rain, circled around and picked it up, and then was on my second lap behind the car, bouncing off the autobraking, when the second place car zipped right by me into first place. I tried to pass him back, but the autobraking wouldn't let me, so I ended up finishing the race in second.

Is anyone else getting crashes occasionally during loading screens? There's no error, it just stops loading and I can see + move my mouse. I then alt-tab out and see the "not responding" dialogue.

I have to say I do enjoy the new handling mechanics - the cars have a bit more weight to them, and you can indeed feel them a bit more in terms of anticipating what they might do next. I haven't played too much yet, but the racing AI and all feels a bit more meaty. I'm loving it.

Driving in the wet feels slippery and soggy now.

And I can't see shit.

Just finished my second career race, this time in the dry. Really liking this better than 2010. Little things are nice, like the tires getting green when you go off road, or the sound of the marbles hitting the car when you are off line (heck, being able to see the marbles now is awesome). Also like the improved status screen - the gentle fade to yellow and orange on the tire status is a nice touch. DRS and KERS adds a nice tactical piece also - except when Hamilton is using it to slide by me in the final turn to steal the last podium spot.

Just wish I could figure out wheel settings I like. I still haven't figured out exactly what the linearity and saturation do - I can tell a difference when changing them, just can't tell ahead of time what would be a good setting and don't want to take the time to trial and error it.

For anyone having sound problems, there is a new Rapture3D driver available here:

One thing I REALLY like is how they have improved the braking. I can get much closer to the braking points shown in the onboard laps on formula1.com. I always thought I had to brake waaaaaay early in 2010. Not so much in 2011.

At first I found the game too hard on Expert mode in AUS, so I turned it down to hard and got 12th in the Lotus. When it came to Malaysia, it was totally different. I qualified 9th and finished in 2nd place. I literally got a podium spot in the first corner. I don't think that is very realistic, imo.

not bad.. lol not very realistic, why because you can actually pass more then 1 car in the game unlike in the real world?

I noticed the same thing. I was braking where I did in 2010 and then had to lay off the brakes before the corner because I had slowed down too much. Kind of sucks having to learn all new braking points. Although it still seems like the AI brakes too early - I can catch up a ton on some of the slow corners.

I think my favorite change is the way the marbles accumulate outside the line - really makes you pay the price for overshooting the turns now.

Ugh, same here. When I check the error message it just says app crash of F1_2011.exe. Some have been getting a ntdll.exe faulting module but I don't have one listed. It's really frustrating as it seems totally random. I hope CM releases a path quickly as the game is pretty much unplayable otherwise. What I have played I've enjoyed and with all the settings maxxed out at 1920x1080 my avg fps is 57.

Here is a thread with the same problem: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2130267

love how you drove right through that guys wheel at the start coming into the first corner.. then when you hit the wall coming out of the final hair pin.. both should of destroyed the suspension on that car.

Yeah he was giving me the stink eye on the grid. :p Hey nobodies perfect!

I hit that hairpin on the first or second lap too, just not as bad. The damage setting might have been on reduced I don't remember. I've raced on full damamge and those impacts would have torn the wing off if your concerned about damamge relism, probably not hard enough to brake the suspension though.

I usually keep settings toned down untill i get a feel for the game, and I haven't had much time to play lately. It is a video game though and it tries really really hard for you to be able to play the game, not retire early. the sim haters are going to hate, but the game is really fun and realistic enough in my opinion.

FWIW, I updated my GFWL and installed the latest Nvidia beta drivers and it looks like it fixed my app crash problem. Played about thirty minutes tonight at Spa and Monza with no issues. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the gremlins are gone!

Has any fix been found for the crashes during loading? I can't seem to find anything in the way of a fix yet..

Hi guys. I have a couple of questions. How are pole positions utilized in the online portion of the game and is it possible to be competitive with a 360 controller?-

I had to reinstall the turd as it crashed on the first load screen.
I think the savefile gets corrupted, so maybe reinstall, make a copy of your savefile, of course, if it keeps happening, that's a PITA solution to this turd of a game.

Are those long load screens still their or is it gone? I used to hate the long intro menus etc in 2010

What are you guys using for braking saturation? I have Club Sport Pedals (load cell) and can't find a good setting. It seems like it's either all or no brakes. I race on iRacing pretty much exclusively with the F1 car/Ferrari Virtual Academy, so I have a decent idea of how the brakes should feel.

Is Crossfire still broken in the game? If so im waiting for a Fix before i buy.

Yes it is, they are supposed to have a fix this week (I think). They mentioned that they are working on it on their Twitter.

Anyone else notice anything strange about the AI lap timing? During qualifying I'll go blowing past, say Schumacher, like he's driving on wagon wheels, but then at the end of qualifying he'll be 6 places ahead of me on the grid. I've also run races (20%) where some AI behind me will be turning in lap times 3 seconds faster than me, but he never catches up. I realize it's a short race, but I certainly wasn't 30 seconds ahead.

i believe the slow cars in qualifying are due to the AI's warm up/cool down laps.
