FFS, I lost my credit card about 3 months ago that was tied to my Gold account. I canceled it the day I got it but never called MS to tell them to cancel my account back to silver, I just didn't use my 360 during that time anyway. Now I'm calling them, trying to get them to reactivate my account back to Silver, and they say I have a balance of 15 dollars because they kept trying to charge me for gold even though my CC was canceled. They're telling me that in order for them to reactivate my account in any way (so that I can use my savegames and whatnot) I have to pay the 15 dollars for the previous charges on my already canceled card..

what the fuck????

I'm still on the phone after 2 hours, waiting to get connected to the supervisor. The moron told me they're all in a meeting, after me getting steamed up he said wait 30 minutes on the phone while I'll connect you to them..

A supervisor better answer, and he better get rid of my charges.

Edit: idiot comes back on telling me that they're all busy after telling him 4 times that I'll wait. He said they'll call me back within 48 hours

P.S if you want to trade your PS3 for my premium 360, PM me.
Never buying anything Xbox related ever again

damn...based on your title I thought they might have finally released a forced feedback cod peace. :(

Soooo... your bitching about something that happened due to you not canceling your account? If your account is active, as far as MS knows your using their service, and their going to bill you for it.

Next time maybe you should follow up on accounts drawing from recently deactivated credit cards.

And then you go getting all pissy about their phone reps, spewing personal insults about them when their just doing their job. That says something right there.
Anyway, obviously none of this is MS' fault. You just need to take care of your own financial ties in a more responsible manner next time.

It's your fault for not canceling your service when your card was deactivated. From their perspective it looked like you were trying to get out of paying your bills. The fact remains that even though you may not have used your Xbox for a while, you were still subscribed to Gold and you're responsible for the charges. Microsoft owes you nothing, just pay your bills and use your head a little in the future.

If my CC is canceled, they should stop trying to bill me the first time time they're not able to get money out of me. Why would they give me two "free" months if they were never able to charge me in the first place?

Thats all up the a companies policy for billing. Obviously Xbox Live can work on a credit based system, where one can still use their services and have a bill due. Keeping a tab so to speak.

You should have cancelled. That said, I hope you get somewhere with them.

Because the billing company (MS in this case) gives you some slack. Fact is, people get new cards all the time. I've had multiple cards re-issued with new numbers due to database theft, the banks getting bought out, or the cards expired. I hope that if one of these things happened and MS billed me on the same day, MS would not instantly axe any account I had while I wait for the new cards in the mail.

Side note, I do not have XBL anyway.

How do they know its cancelled? You didnt tell them, I have worked customer service for a long time and its not their problem that you didnt tell them to stop charging you.

It sucks yes but it is your duty to tell them to stop trying to bill you. They will try to run your card to get a payment and all they will show is card error / declined. Which as others said looks like you are just trying to skimp out on your bill.

Just because the card changes does not necessarily mean that your account number has changed... I had my check card messed with twice, first time they just sent me a new card and tied it to the same account, second time I had them start over with new card and new account.

Depending on what happens the bank can see the previous charges and let them through (not likely for any reason to protect the customer), or decline the transaction until the customer sets it up again.

As Ocellaris stated they give you a grace period (not every place does this) but they understand things happen, lots of gamers are poor and might need some extra time or the card changes, so they put a note on your account and let you keep playing for a little while. IMO its good customer service to let you keep playing even though you havnt payed. Its your job to tell them you no longer want their service.

I agree with what everyone else has said, and it's only 15 dollars. Just don't go out and buy Macdonald's for a few days and viola, you have saved up enough to pay your debts to MS.

I can understand. Only my Xbox consoles have broken, which is why I don't bother making them my main consoles (and supported my PS2 more last gen, and my PS3 more this gen). MS customer service is a pain to deal with.

Would they allow you to open an XBL account on a new gamertag without trying to charge you the $15.00 you owed on the other account?

All that over a $15 bill that is the result of your own mistake?

I have no sympathy for you.

Man up, pay the $15, and learn to make a few phone calls when you deactivate/cancel a credit card.

You should have called MS and told them. In absolutely no way is this their fault.

Yeah. If you stopped watching TV for 3 months would you get mad that your cable company was still billing you? There's plenty of stuff to get mad at MS over, but you are being ridiculous.

Wow such lame posts on this forum nowadays. Your responsible for not calling them and telling them your cc is cancelled. Its not their job to read your mind. For all we know you were using live while your cc was cancelled hoping you could get away with not paying. No sympathy for you.

yeah I'm with you 100% F xbox.......wait are you actually complaining that you got charged for a service they provided you.............No for the first time in history I think I'm with microsoft on this one.

To the OP:

This is your fault for not cancelling. If you don't cancel they continue to bill you. It is their right. You cancelled your CC without notifying them.

Which violates their TOS you had with them. You should pay the $15 since YOU broke the TOS with them and never cancelled like you should have, but still kept your service connected.

If you sell or wreck your car and don't cancel your insurance and XM radio service you still have to pay for it, you know?

OP no offense but do you not work? 15.00 is nothing tbh. Just pay it and get it fixed.

I have to say, it's the OP's fault as he didn't contact them when the event occured.

However I DO understand his frustration with support. The way he was handled would never fly where I work. That was not customer service.

If I ever told someone "you'll wait" where I work I'd be shown the door. Even if they HAVE to wait, you do not tell a customer "you'll wait". You find a better way.

Sounds to me like you screwed up. If your CC was lost/stolen.. your problems just don't dissapear when you cancel it. Look at it this way, your gym membership auto takes money from your account. If youre CC is stolen/lost... you can't just cancel your card and cry a river when the gym trys to continue charging you. Especially if the contact says it will do that if you do not confirm you do not want to auto re-up your membership when it expires.

Sucks for you, but you did 1/2 the work.

I'll be frank here. I'm 17, I used my debit card. At the time, I was working at a local grocery store, earning 6.75 an hour. I paid for live using that "money".

I then lost my debit card a few months back. I tried calling in MS a few days after canceling my debit card and asking them to cancel, but since I signed up under my dads name, and gave them MY name, they said my dad has to call in even though it was my debit card (though, again, under my dads name because I'm not 18).

I quit my job long ago, I can't pay that 15 dollars charge, it doesn't matter if it's a lot or a little, it wasn't my point).

Now a few days back, I decided to try Live again because of Rez coming and free Undertow. I did not use live ever since I lost my debit card, unlike that one idiot who thought I tried getting a couple of free months out of MS. Just logged in from time to time to play some Dead or Alive.

Still, this has become a Flame the OP thread more than anything. I expected some support, got the opposite.

Lesson learned: Check
Flames neccesary? No check

stating the obvious that it's your own fault for not following thru with your live account cancellation is not a flame , just a fact...no hate involved , you can't expect people to support you in your own mistakes is all.

Just logged in from time to time to play some Dead or Alive.

So you were still using the service after your card was canceled.

Just wondering, but why didn't you have your dad call MS after they told you they needed to speak with him to cancel the account

C'mon guys, the guy thought that canceling his credit card would make it so that charges could no longer be placed on it. I can totally see where he's coming from.

When I first bought my 360, I sent in the $50 warranty almost immediately. Two months later, I switch my bank account from my hometown to the one at WashU without giving a thought to the $50 check that microsoft had not cashed yet. Low and behold, I get a call a few weeks later from my old bank telling me that I had $200 in overdraft charges due. I made some calls, got it fixed, and learned my lesson.

The same will happen to the OP. He'll make some calls to MS, they'll realize that he slipped through the cracks in their billing system and refund his money, and the OP will learn his lesson about how canceling a credit card does not truly cancel it immediately.

I wasn't online. Played story mode.

And my dad would never call, he's a jackass when it comes to things like this.

to be honest, it wouldn't be that hard to call and just give his name instead of yours...

i did it ALL the time when something broke and it was under my dad's name.

Its all in how you talk and word your sentances. Your stating how pissed off you were at Microsoft was not justified, usually never is on first calls or even second calls. So yelling and being all pissed off at them usually gets you no where. Hense the lack of sympathy from these forums.

If you had called up asked them what was going on as your CC was lost and you cancelled it I am sure they would have explained their auto bill policy and that they are not connected to the bank so they didnt know. Then pester the hell out of your dad or call back as him yourself and I bet they would have dropped the charge without a problem. I highly doubt Microsoft would have a problem being friendly and losing $15 to eventually gain you back as a user. Being friendly and civil goes a long way on phone calls... theres a time and place for being pissed off.
