different strokes for different folks I guess...

I really enjoyed F.E.A.R. ..then jumped on Quake IV and at first I didnt really care for it at all ..but the farther I got into the game , the more the ride became a fun one ..(sick and disturbing at points ..but fun)
Had I just stopped playing cause I wasn't getting into it , I would have missed out on what became a pretty enjoyable game .

I guess ones own mindset going into something can adversly affect ones experience with whatever they are getting into..

If I am looking for some Kung-Fu action with lots of blood and guts in a movie ...then I probably shouldnt pop in "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants".

I knew what I was getting into with F.E.A.R. and so really got into the game having already seen "The Ring" and "Akira" (both if mixed together kind of describe F.E.A.R.) .

Quake IV being a different feeling shooter was harder to get into after playing F.E.A.R. ..but once I got the feel of the game and thus knew what to expect ..I got into it and it was a wild ride.

I think Fear is a great game that introduces new things into the FPS realm.
However, I find myself still playing CS:S :p

The AI is probably one of THE BEST in any FPS game currently out there no matter how much you hate the game.

Plus...you're computer is completely SMASHED by trying to play it. Sounds like computer envy and hating a game because it can't play with you. Heh

When you're computer "grows up" visit the game and try to say the same things.
 
Heh, I played the demo on my 9600pro. Even then I could tell the graphics were good. I had a blast playing the demo, probably played through it about ten times ;) (Possibly more o_O)

You cant expect to run all of FEARs effects on a Radeon 9800 and a 2.5 GHz AXP...heh


I found Quake 4 to be rather predictable...thus taking away from the atmosphere... FEAR kept me on my toes...

Some people are just so inept to realize a good game when they play it. Quite frankly, no one cares. Everybody else liked it. I mean, Quake 4 was so stupid compared to F.E.A.R. I'm not saying Quake 4 was bad, I was just dissapointed with it, because it could have been better.
 
It seems like it's the popular thing now to say that you don't like good games. It's like "look at me I'm so cool I think this is crap and lame when everyone else likes it, I'm better than all of you" :rolleyes:

F.E.A.R, Quake 4, Far Cry, Half Life 2 were all great games and I enjoyed all of them equally. If games like this don't do it for you maybe you should get away from FPS's, or gaming in general...

Fear is a great game because none of the editors that work for me will play it a) alone or b) in the dark. That's the mark of a good game.
 
F.E.A.R. was a welcome change from the flood of pointless cookie-cutter shooters like YetAnotherAlienInvasionOnARedPlanet (Doom 4/Quake 4 whatever series its part of ;) ), or YetAnotherWW2Shooter.

Is it revolutionary? Nah. I prefer Deus Ex. But it is far and away the best singleplayer campaign in a shooter this year.

It gets automatic points for not being a sequel, too.
 
FEAR > Quake 4 except in terms of multiplayer. quake 4 is relly dull and boring, fear was very good and addicting. i played through it over the course of 2 days, i never do that with games.

i have since played through it 2 more times, and had fun each time

Yeah - I noticed that also... there is a patch for Riddick... that's helped out a lot on the crashing... cool game tho.. :)
 
Maybe you guys should just play something else. I've bought most of the shooters that appeal to me, so that makes it a lot, and I can't say I was very dissapointed with any of them. FEAR is a game that most will feel is good because it does ooze a quality about it. Because you can tell quality from thrown together. I don't think many shooter fans would be one if a game like HL2, FarCry, or FEAR sucks to them.
 
Fear is definetely the best game I have played in a few years.

The A.I. is amazing, and the best I have seen since HL1 (HL2 seemed to have WORSE A.I.)

Its a fantastic game with a decent story, I think some of you just don't find a taste in FPS games anymore. Sucks to be you.
 
I see lots of you guys posting about how F.E.A.R is the best thing since sliced bread ;) and I just didn't get the same feeling. It was good, not the super-duper-you-gotta-have-it games some of you guys make it out to be. I played it through to the end, interval 9 and 10 were the most enjoyable for me (getting up close and personal with alma did it for me).

The whole Fettle thing was like... meh :confused:

But overall, I think it was really overhyped. I found it really predictable in places, almost to the point of saying "And here comes alma...3....2...1" which did happen. :D

Same goes for Half-Life 2, good game, better than F.E.A.R for sure, but not sooooo good. Over hyped once again.

I'd say the best shooter for me would have to be Half-Life 1 and followed so so so so closely by Far Cry. I absolutely loved Far Cry.

Of course the character models are the same. They are soldiers. Soldiers wear the same uniforms. Soldiers are all trained the same way. Soldiers carry the same weapons. Your gripe on weapons models is false. The game looks great. I haven't beaten the game yet. In fact I was on Interval 7 when I reformatted my Rig and I haven't had a chance to reinstall it yet cause I've been playing Quake 4 but I thought the game was well done. The ambience was phenominal, the weapon models were great, the sounds were awesome.

I think youa re either playing on a rig that can't handle the insane demand of the game or you went in with a biased opinion with the intent on making waves on the forums. Especially since you only got a "little bit of the way into the game" before you decided to flame it. You had already hated the game before playing it. I say, give it another try. Play it for more than one or two levels.....like try beating the game then come back here and give an honest opinion of the game.

I've never played HL2. But I think the game looks great and it looks like an awesome game. I won't play it because I don't like VALVe. But I'd never say the game sucks because I've never played it.

You're retarded if you think FEAR looks good on anything beyond particle effects. The art assets in that game are horrible. And the fact that you are in an office building does not excuse me seeing the same cubicle and shit on the wall a 100 times over the course of that game. The A.I. was good, the combat was good, but let's not kid ourselves about the art.

Textures were pretty high quality, as were some of the physics effects (the flying debris). There were a few other good things in there too, but the levels were repetitive.

Lol no wonder he says the graphics suck he has a crap computer and cant run fear or quake4 max settings high res so he is pissed off and bashes the games. Lol trying to run quake 4 or frear with his computer a xp 2500 and a 9800 pro hehe what you run at 640x480 or 800x600 ? Trust me you run either of those titles at 1600x1200 4x8 like I do with my 7800 and a amd x2 with 2 gigs of ram your jaws would literally fall off your face :)
