EVoLVE Official Thread

watched a couple of Behemoth matches...they explained some nice strategies as well...can't wait to play him...dude's a tank...I'm sure people will now complain that he's OP and not Wraith anymore

Only until they balance him. I'm interested in the new hunters but not until the price drops later on. I like the idea of Wraith as sold in the tutorials as an assassin but all it is now is a sprinter, runs in for a nibble and bolts away.

I've spent 25 + minutes in a great hunt on the Goliath and Kraken with close fights, good evasions and actual tracking. Never experienced the same fun with Wraith. I believe Behemoth will have similar issues at the start but they'll get it tweaked. I just hope they don't take so long to do it O_O.

So they want to sell me $40 of DLC before they even fixed any real bugs or blatant balance issues? I should have known better not to preorder, but the "TRS creators of L4D" marketing got me.

I'm with you, game is fantastic, but extremely light on content. Current game is unbalanced and repetitive.

I'm not thrilled too drop more dough on more unbalanced and repetitive content

The player base for L4D2 is more than twice as much as Evolve, and it came out more than 5 years ago....

The balance patch was released today, surprisingly. I tried to give it a shot and get a feel for things, but quickly gave up after the 3rd match of being paired with bad teammates. This game just isn't fun. One bad teammate and your game is over and a waste of time. Have fun following around some random trapper for 10 minutes while he is missing every dome trap he sets to catch the monster. Seriously, you will just be running around for 10+ minutes doing absolutely nothing in this scenario.

Then you can go await your death camping the power relay. Meanwhile the monster has 100% health, 100% armor, picks up some crazy 35% damage wild life perk, and has a 25% cooldown perk. By the time he kills your team, the team will have taken out 5% of his health. This game is a bigger joke than Titanfall and I can see why it's dying so fast.

I dont agree with all of the tweaks but I'll have to find some time to play a few rounds and see how it is now.

I'm a little bit intrigued by this game, but I think I'm just going to rent it on the PS4. The player base should be stronger, more plentiful.

the new maps, Hunters and Monster have greatly improved the game...I think most people are staying away because of the high price of the game...once a sale hits or the price drops I think the game will experience a major uptick

anyone playing the new maps that were released last week?...been busy with Bloodborne that I haven't played much in a few weeks

I have been busy with work and Cities Skylines as an easy relaxer. Didnt know they had released the maps. I'll have to check em out.

I was actively playing it up until last week. I agree that the community has died down. The problem now is only the 40s are around so you have to be really good if you want to play as the monster.

Interesting, part of the trapper will now be useless but depending on who you pick the harpoon's will keep the monster pinned. Stasis grenades will help keep the fight stacked in your favor.

Comes down to which hunters vs which monster and who has the better ground placement and can maintain it.

Sounds like fun as a break from the norm.

I watched PS4 streams today and all I saw was a ton of dead monsters. :) Wraith won a few though. But the person playing it had "Best Monster" in his stream title. Not sure how good he was, but everyone else that played the monster seemed terrible compared to him.

Bah, was going to fire up and try arena mode but the patch messed with widescreen support again. I have Eyefinity but was forcing it into 1920 x 1200 displaying the game on each panel at its native resolution. Worked fine since the game's wide screen support is still "meh."

Sadly with the new patch it is stretching that resolution across all panels and just wont stick to one unless I disable my display group or switch to the other presets. Not the end of the world just annoying. I'd try windowed but it drops to a step down in resolution and windowed full screen is the same stretched mess.

If the game's HUD would work properly in ultra wide resolutions I would lower the graphical settings and enjoy in full Eyefinity but as it doesn't... Launch options and config settings that were forcing the resolution still are, but it seems that the game is not reading those settings for the aspect ratio displaying the game 3 times (1 per monitor).

I'll hold off on playing for a while, hopefully the get it fixed up again (or I find a way to force the damned aspect ratio).

Looks like they are going to patch in a fix for the issue that messed with resolutions in the Arena patch.

game is fun...just too many other newer games out (Witcher 3) or coming out soon (Arkham Knight) that there's not enough time to play

Things seem to have balanced out a bit as well which is what started my brief break before some other games I wanted to enjoy came out. Work, life and limited time mean I rotate around games.

I enjoy the game, and once they fix the display issue I mentioned previously I want to play it again.

I just finished Deserters Gold quest and received no XP. Did the quest glitch on me?

Sorry, wrong thread

Earlier today the Evolve website posted a countdown for some sort of announcement, and the game can no longer be purchased on Steam...the Steam page still exists however...most people are speculating that Turtle Rock is going announce that the game has turned into a free-to-play version...do I get a refund for paying full price?...the game was actually not bad and had a lot of potential...I enjoyed playing it for a short while but might get back to it again once it goes ftp...hope the community returns as well...the latest Steam numbers show a peak of 150 players!!

After playing the beta I felt like I pretty much did 90% of what the game offered.

Evolve 2 ? Actually Free to play might not be bad idea some games go on for years while FTP

I liked what I played in the free weekend. Reminded me a lot of Giants Citizen Kabuto, would like to play it more but I don't really have the interest in buying something people aren't going to be playing.

Not a bad game at all, but it was very sparce on content. It also had one of the greediest and most obvious cash grab of a DLC system I've ever seen. Those things combined are what killed it so quickly. Had it been F2P from the beginning, the DLC system would have made more sense, but they wanted you to pay full price for the game PLUS charge you for every little thing they added.

I loved it until the Wraith got locked in as it was. Behemoth was cool and fun to fight but a bit too fast and able to roll away vs being a ridiculous tank. Lots of various ways to play both angles and fun to rotate around roles with friends. But the pricey DLC and Wraith killed it for everyone I know, had 9 friends playing it heavily in alpha, beta and launch. I was the last to stop. Only load it once in a blue moon when I have a team of friends.

They lost their focus on balance and the new hero's didnt help much. Goliath was amazingly balanced and Kraken much better after the beta nerf. The post launch one wasnt wholly necessary but didnt ruin it.

Oh well, looked good, played well and was a good time with friends. I am interested to see where they go.

From TurtleRock. Evolve is going F2P on PC.

We’re proud of those awards -- they hang in the lobby for a reason. Evolve received over 65 nominations and awards at various trade shows after we announced. It was the first title in history to win Game of Show at both E3 and Gamescom. It felt great to receive all those awards and we don’t ever want to forget that feeling. Game development is an art and what artist doesn’t love having their work appreciated?

When people first started playing Evolve at those and other conferences, it was magical. Sure, there was the AAA videogame hype surrounding our title. Yeah, we also had the flashy displays, the giant Goliath statue, and all the other things AAA games do to get people excited. And that stuff was cool. Really cool. But, what we lived for -- what was cooler by far -- was just seeing people play Evolve for the first time. We worked on it for years and then, suddenly, people got to experience our game, controller in-hand. There was genuine excitement -- real joy -- when people played. It was like nothing they’d ever played before and watching it happen was like no high we ever felt.

Then, when Evolve launched, the reception wasn’t what we expected. Sure, there were some good reviews. There were also bad reviews. Yes, there was excitement. There was also disappointment – for players and for us. The DLC shitstorm hit full force and washed away people’s enthusiasm, dragging us further and further from that first magical pick-up-and-play experience.

We want that magic back and we aim to make it happen. We’ve made a lot of changes, improvements and additions to Evolve over the past year and we’ve got a lot more coming. In short, we’re giving this game a vigorous overhaul!

Just to give you some examples:

  • We’re reworking the hunter classes to make the team less reliant on having experienced trappers and medics.
  • We’re making improvements to the maps and UI.
  • We’re improving load times, overall performance, and getting you into the game faster.
  • We’re focusing on improving stability and fixing bugs.
  • We’re completely reworking our progression system and tutorials.
  • We’re adding more customization options.
Most importantly, we just want to put the game in your hands. Try Evolve out. See what you think. We hope you like it and we're not going to charge you to give it a try.

“Wait! What?! What does that mean?”

It means we’ve been listening and now we’re taking Evolve in the direction that a lot of you have suggested since the beginning. We’re making Evolve free on PC. No buy-in or box required.

Making Evolve free on PC is going to be a process that takes time and a lot of hard work, but we believe in Evolve and we believe in you, our players and want to do what’s best for both!

Here’s how it’s going to work: We’re going to make Evolve free on PC as a Beta starting on July 7. This is going to allow us to hit our new server infrastructure really hard and we need your help testing. Stuff could break, and that’s our hope, because that will give us time to improve things as we go. We’ll parse out major Beta revisions, updates and features over a period of weeks and months -- a plan we're going to continually communicate here. This allows us to test new features and major changes to make our game more accessible and ever closer to the joy we saw when we first showed our baby to the world. Just as importantly, this Beta plan gives us the flexibility and time we need to keep fixing bugs and making Evolve more stable.

“What about those who paid for Evolve? What about Season Passers?”

Anyone who owns classic Evolve will be given “Founder” status in the new free version, and all the content you already own comes with you to the new version. As long as we work on Evolve, we will show our appreciation for our committed fans and early adopters with gifts, rewards, and special access. Why? Because you believed like we did, and we will never forget that.

As part of our promise to recapture the magic and improve the Evolve experience across-the-board, we're going to ratchet up our communication with the community. We will be continually updating our social channels, our forums and our website to let you know how it’s going.

We have lived and breathed Evolve for over four years and we feel like we are just getting started. Since launch we realized Evolve has provided people some of their most exciting gaming moments and we want to make more of those for everyone... well, everyone who is OK with being periodically murdered (brutally) by terrifying alien monsters.

See you on Shear.

Not sure its wholly the right choice but I hope it works out and that their changes do some good. Doing it right now with the other popular titles out like Overwatch though will probably hurt their re "launch". I'll give it another shot as I have off and on since I tuned out but there are other new titles keeping my friends online where I'll be spending more time unless I can get a few to give it a shot with me.

Really hope it helps the game boost up again. Good post about how fun the tease was initially and I am glad they are trying.

nice job Turtle Rock!...this is not simply making the game FTP but they're making across the board improvements to maps, classes, load times etc!...as a person who paid for the game I wish they were giving us more then simply 'Founder Status' but whatever...I actually loved the game early on- playing as the Monsters were fun as hell...I loved the Kraken...attacking from above was crazy fun...I'm going to go back and play again starting tomorrow as there's no other game I'm currently playing...Evolve has lured me back in!

I love their honesty!...they admit that reviews weren't the greatest and that the DLC plan sucked and left people with a bad impression...I hope the game takes off now and becomes the game it always had the potential of being...

Well....sucks for everyone who paid $100 for the ultimate monster edition or whatever.

But probably the right move for the future of the game (if one still exists). I'll probably give it try.

I'm betting that because it is F2P that there will be some annoying unlock system for points or you just have to pay money to unlock things. So those guys with the Ultimate Edition should have more content than the beginner F2P players. We will find out tomorrow. ;)
