eVGA RMA Issues

It's okay, he doesn't understand sarcasm. Because everyone knows I volt modded my Audigy 2ZS and drew some data pipelines with my lead pencil and now it works just like an X-Fi.

Wooo, go overclocking!

Your not hard until you mod a 466Mhz Celeron to have an onboard memory controller, 2Ghz FSB and overclock it with Liquid Nitrogen to over 4uberhertz

First of all, return shipping is the responsibility of the customer, and that is clearly stated in our RMA terms and conditions. On a few occasions that are deemed special cases, EVGA, at our discretion, will waive the associated shipping charges. On our retail packages (products ending in AX, DX, FX), ground shipping is provided for free.

If you want to be at the pinnacle of customer satisfaction (which, I believe can be claimed by BFG at this point in time), you would treat all customers equally and eat all return shipping costs like most other hardware companies. But thanks for breaking down the actual cost and making feel a little better about your RMA policy.

Issues resolved...Mods please close this thread.

Just wondering, doess this OC and RMA "rule" apply if the manufacturer of the product condones OCing? For example I have an MSI 6600GT card. Not only does MSI include overclocking software with the card, they even advertise the possible performance gains on the box. Say I used their OC software and OCed my card which caused damage to the card. Would it be ethical to RMA the card?

If that isn't flawed thinking I don't know what is. Can't figure if it sarcasm or not. Should all cars have automagic mechanisms that limit your speed based upon the posted speed? Yes...the world must protect your from your own stupidity...I know I know. If you can't figure out that pushing a device beyonds it posted specificaitons may result in shortened life then you give your computer to somebody

eVGA's motto isn't "we'll pay for your screwups". It is "pay for shipping and we'll replace your screwup". I still call that a pretty good deal.

But also...if you break something from Target and you got to get it replaced do you bill Target for the gas/wear to go to and from there? eVGA policy is valid and reasonable...but it may not be to your "ideals".

The only thing you are guranteed by the federal law is 90 days replacement which is prevent total and complete garbage from being sold. I think california is 1 year (love democrats sometimes)

Not really my MSI video cards came with an overclocking tool that even helps you find the maximun overclock.....Nowhere in the manual does it say if you overclock the card the warrenty will be voided.

I recognize an escalated issue when I see one. I work in customer service for consumer loans, and your complaints are equal to some of the complaints I get. For example "I don't want to pay the $7 title fee to close my loan" "Well, I'm sorry you feel that way, but unfortuately due to [insert company name] policy, we can't waive that charge". It's YOUR responsiblity to look over the complete terms and conditions of the product you purchase, INCLUDING any RMA procedure costs. If you don't, then it's your own damn fault that you didn't, but for you to realize that some guy from eVGA had to come in and "pwn" you as it were. And why do you keep comparing this to BFG's policy? If you like their policy so much, then buy your card from them. And I agree with all the people who said you are lucky for only having to pay $10 instead of money for a new card. So if I were you , I wouldn't complain, I'd consider myself lucky and be happy that you're cheating the system and getting a new card. Mind you, if I were in the same posistion I would RMA the card as well, but I wouldn't bitch about it. eVGA was right, end of story.

Jesus H. Christ. I don't post often but have been around for ages. When did the [H]ard|Forum get lame on OCing in general. Full of fucking teeny-bopper newbs around here now. Shame.

1. You don't know how old I am. (19)
2. Though I am a newb, I have been a long time lurker, and just recently decided to start posting.

No one is lame on OCing, What we're lame on is ignorant asswads who OC their card, break it, then whine and complain and try to RMA it.

Only one here acting like a Teeny-Bopper n00b, is you.

K. It all works out in the end I guess.

:D You know it. QFT = Quit f*king talking or Quoted for truth? I came up with my own that I thought was right: Quit flaming tard. But either way, the issue is closed.

One last post before I'm done with this thread and this is directed to the "Director of eVGA Marketing": To be supreme in customer satisfaction, your company always needs to look out for what's in the best interest of the customer in all aspects. Even something as trivial as the choice of shipper for your RMAs. I don't know what kind of business deal you have with UPS, but they are the absolute most expensive and worst customer service of all. For example, a package that weighs 1.5lbs shipped from Arcadia, CA to eVGA with no options and gound shipping would cost:

1) DHL = $3.71
2) FedEx = $3.77
3) USPS Priority Mail = $3.95
4) UPS = $5.29

That's a whopping 42.6% increase from the lowest shipper, DHL for the same service. You pass this ridiculous markup to your customers.

DHL is retarded, i wouldnt ship a stack of printing paper through them let alone my silicone.

The card is 3 months old and mildly OCed with more than sufficient cooling. The single resistor C138 burning up was not caused by OCing.

AdvModDev said:
... but the burnt resistor was not caused by OCing.

Out of curiousity, can you tell us where this resistor is connected? What kind of currect it has flowing through it at stock and at your overclock? The specs of the resistor itself? Do you know anything about the resistor or the circuit it's a part of?

If not, you can't exactly repeatedly insist that it wasn't caused by your overclocking. Not that I'm any electronics genius, but if your card's power regulation circuits were drawing mroe current to power your OC, you may have passed the specs on the resistor and fried it. Or, perhaps, it was heat from the core itself that damaged it.

I'm not trying to flame you, I'm just curious why you are so positive it's not the resistor. And, my real question is, if it WAS caused by your OC, would you still have RMA'd it?

that is kindof a mut complaint..

i don't know very many (if any) places that you don't have to pay RMA shipping charges.. only for a select few products will they give you RMA shipping labels for returning products (Monarch i know does this, as does BenQ)

even BFG that you claim doesn't, indeed does (i just had to RMA my FX5900) and had to pay 7$ to ship it... then again, 7$ is just part of the consumer pain of buying a lemon card (or in your case, the OC may have had a hand to do with it)..

but i'm just curious so i will ask..

when you called evga for an RMA did you tell them you OCed the card or did you leave that part out?

-edit/added

it should also be pointed out that eVGA's policy is OCing does void the warranty

http://www.evga.com/Support/KnowledgeBase/article.asp?aid=65

All this over someone that's complaining over approx $10 of shipping charges on a piece of hardware that he admits he OC'd.

Like I tell friends that play the market, if you can't afford to lose it, don't play... Ya, your not [H]ard like you think.

Be cool if some one could tell us whats affected hardware wise from overclocking. Im sure that the processor would be stressed, but I have no idea if there is extra current usage or what other electronic doodads are in trouble.

Maybe one day we will see warranties that cover everything but whats *really* affected by overclocking.

We should probably start another thread about overclocking effects on different card components, but from what I've seen, it's usually the power regulation circuits that go. A lot of the components in power regulation (mosfets, for example), I believe, have a specific power rating and going above that can fry them.

Back on topic, I'm not sure if more current over a resistor would actually fry it. With voltage, if your resistor drops 3v, then it would drop that amount regardless of if you feed 24v or 12v through it. I'm not sure, though, if resistors limit current to a specific amount or they just drop a portion of current across them like they do with voltage. If they limit it to a specific current, more current could easily fry it. Again, I'm just getting into electronics myself, so don't take my opinion as anything more than a half-educated theory.

I can't believe this guy rips on a company willing to replace the card that he burnt up OCing. What a greedy cry baby. Pay the $10.
I can't believe he rips on the company, they actually RMA the thing for him saving him tons of cash, and then comes in here telling us that we have to OC our shit to post in the forums...... hold on OP, gotta go crank my 3700+ up to about 3GHz (yeah, I wish).... then when it blows up, i'll RMA it to AMD and then bitch when they ask me to pay shipping......

It's really weird that I saw this thread today because I've had a semi-bad experience with EVGA RMAs. Here it goes:

Awhile back I submitted an RMA but cancelled it that same day because I was going on vacation and had too much to deal with. They didn't cancel the RMA and ended up keeping my $10. I called them back about it and the VERY NICE customer support person cancelled my RMA, refunded my money and set me up with a new RMA with free shipping. I was extremely happy. Then, today I noticed that my RMA status was not updated. They received my card awhile ago but it didn't say so on the website. I called in and was told that they couldn't find my RMA in the system. The customer service guy took my phone number and called me back later. Apparently they issued the same RMA number to two people. He asked me if I had a tracking number for my package because they lost my card in the confusion. Later today he finally called me back and let me know that they found my card, whew. But the RMA process is going to have to start over and I prolly wont get my card for another week. Now, I understand these things happen, and I'm thankful that the customer service guy stuck with it and figured out what was going on. But he never once said sorry for the mixup or offered any condulences. I mean, it really sucks being told that they can't find your $400 video card!
