Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

nice! Just in time since my steambox will be done this week. Looking forward to sitting on the coach and playing this.

Fo reals. I do steam link all the time on an old hades canyon NUC. My 5950x and 6900xt does all the processing and I get to sit 100ft away from the heat of the box.

Holy.

Also, can anyone confirm if there are birds and insects in the game? LOL. This is weird, but I actually brought this up at the official forum when the game released in 2006, and man did I ever take a beating. Someone said, “Birds… the fuck are you talking about? Someone get this douchebag a bird.”

LOL. It’s weird that I still remember that. It just seemed like something the game should have because the world of Oblivion, at the time, felt so alive to me… the absence of birds and insects seemed weird.
There are birds and insects!

It also rains a lot... wow..

Yeah, I'm sure Nvidia will drop another driver in the next day or two....

But if I have to choose between playing a remaster or abandoning my trusty 566 branch drivers - ain't no choice at all.

But but but but but Game Pass 🙄

The lighting alone makes me want to play it again. Thankfully I already have Gamepass already so it's not really an issue. If the mod support for this is good but not Gamepass friendly I don't have a problem dropping $30 or $40 on it.
I am very disappointed they didn't do more with the combat though, I was really hoping it would feel a little bit more like Avowed in that department. Unfortunately I haven't even made it out of the first dungeon yet because the stupid thing crashed on me and I had to go do adult stuff so hopefully I'll get more time tomorrow.

This is definitely a modern UE5 Shell running over 20-year-old code. It's just as doofy as before, but it just looks WAY more modern.

You can apparently extract and actually still open the game files it comes with, with the original mod tools

It is 100% still janky ass Oblivion under the covers

edit: if you're curious, it still shows all the original graphics assets when you do this, they seemingly get swapped at runtime.

Has anyone figured out if the enemy scaling been fine tuned? Oblivion was infamous for brainfarts like poor bandits eventually starting to wear full on ebony and daedric sets, which makes no sense, and rats becoming monsters that gnaw your legs off in seconds. Mods like Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul which fine tune the enemy scaling and introduces limitations what gear enemies can have were almost mandatory back in the day.

Had a blast, FSR 4 looks solid, game looks amazing wtihout hardware RT. You can definitely tell its an old game with a fresh coat of paint but it works. I was going to wait to dive in but I couldn't help myself. I'm still going to finish GTA 4 first before I play again in all likelihood (only a few missions left), but I might start over and pick a different class. I never really played a caster and I keep going stealth.

Possible those mods still work!

But this looks like it's just a coat of paint.

Mods break between just updates of a game how could they possibly work on a full remaster? Skyrim mods didn't work on special edition either, and that was barely different.
But this looks like it's just a coat of paint.
And this is why I'm waiting until there is full mod support or at least it can be confirmed that the game is not broken.

Have they fixed the enemies scaling? And how is the draw distance, lot's of objects popping into view?

From what I have seen, there is at least some pop in but only on very long distance objects. Like you have to stand on hill to see it.
That you could mod the draw distance in the Gamebryo engine was one of the good things about it, having basically no pop ins and seeing animals and people move around in the distance does a lot for the immersion in open world games IMO.

i dont see any info on it having any drm. how can i tell?
On the Steam page, right side around the middle of the page. A box saying so will be there if it has Denuvo.
This game being in UE5 is the only reason I'm even interested in playing it. Creation Engine has been stale and soulless for over a decade. I REALLY hope the new engine brightens up the gameplay.
It's still running on Gamebryo, UE5 is just doing graphics on top of it.

I feel like by the time I tried the original it was already too dated, don’t remember much so I’m guessing I never finished it. Might have to give it a whirl. Kind of wish FO3 got the treatment instead though.

I thought it was ridiculous they charge full price, but after playing it's justified. The graphics are so good and the sounds too. Bethesda needs to ditch their engine, or at least just the graphics part of it. This absolutely destroys Starfield.

They should just hire out other studios to make all their games for them

Only played for about an hour last night but worth every penny just in that. Detail is amazing and love the lighting. Just plays so well and sound is great!

IMO this is how remasters should feel.

Hearing the music start up was a huge hit of nostalgia.

Damn don't you hate when people cheat in a single player game? I think they just want to monetize their own mods. So anti-gamer. How am I gonna get my booba mods now?

Played for a few hours last night and happy to be playing this game again and the graphics are a great upgrade. With that said, the open world parts brings my PC to its knees. When I am in an "instance" such as a dungeon, cave, house, building, etc...I easily get 150+ FPS and runs like butter. When I am outside and in the "open world" then everything goes to garbage. I know my 5900X is not the latest and greatest and the 5090 is bottlenecking it, but its clearly struggling at near 4k. Turning off hardware ray tracing has helped alot to keep it at 80-90FPS mostly consistently, but it still has that "stutter" when moving around.

I know this is gonna be a commercial and critical success but I think Skyblivion has more promise.

After actually playing Oblivion Remsastered I'm no longer interested in Skyblivion. The graphics and everything just destroy Skyrim, even Skyrim modded out to the max comes no where near Oblivion Remastered. I can't go back to that.

Inb4 modders start working on Oblivisky, adding Skyrim into Oblivion Remastered.

The Skyblivion team were all given Oblivion remastered keys, and explicitly told that Microsoft would not shut them down.

From what I've seen of Skyblivion the graphics are about the same, and the gameplay is based on Skyrim, not Oblivion, which since they didn't update it for this release...
