Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

nice! Just in time since my steambox will be done this week. Looking forward to sitting on the coach and playing this.

Fo reals. I do steam link all the time on an old hades canyon NUC. My 5950x and 6900xt does all the processing and I get to sit 100ft away from the heat of the box.

Holy.

Also, can anyone confirm if there are birds and insects in the game? LOL. This is weird, but I actually brought this up at the official forum when the game released in 2006, and man did I ever take a beating. Someone said, “Birds… the fuck are you talking about? Someone get this douchebag a bird.”

LOL. It’s weird that I still remember that. It just seemed like something the game should have because the world of Oblivion, at the time, felt so alive to me… the absence of birds and insects seemed weird.
There are birds and insects!

It also rains a lot... wow..

Yeah, I'm sure Nvidia will drop another driver in the next day or two....

But if I have to choose between playing a remaster or abandoning my trusty 566 branch drivers - ain't no choice at all.

But but but but but Game Pass 🙄

The lighting alone makes me want to play it again. Thankfully I already have Gamepass already so it's not really an issue. If the mod support for this is good but not Gamepass friendly I don't have a problem dropping $30 or $40 on it.
I am very disappointed they didn't do more with the combat though, I was really hoping it would feel a little bit more like Avowed in that department. Unfortunately I haven't even made it out of the first dungeon yet because the stupid thing crashed on me and I had to go do adult stuff so hopefully I'll get more time tomorrow.

This is definitely a modern UE5 Shell running over 20-year-old code. It's just as doofy as before, but it just looks WAY more modern.

You can apparently extract and actually still open the game files it comes with, with the original mod tools

It is 100% still janky ass Oblivion under the covers

edit: if you're curious, it still shows all the original graphics assets when you do this, they seemingly get swapped at runtime.

Has anyone figured out if the enemy scaling been fine tuned? Oblivion was infamous for brainfarts like poor bandits eventually starting to wear full on ebony and daedric sets, which makes no sense, and rats becoming monsters that gnaw your legs off in seconds. Mods like Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul which fine tune the enemy scaling and introduces limitations what gear enemies can have were almost mandatory back in the day.

Had a blast, FSR 4 looks solid, game looks amazing wtihout hardware RT. You can definitely tell its an old game with a fresh coat of paint but it works. I was going to wait to dive in but I couldn't help myself. I'm still going to finish GTA 4 first before I play again in all likelihood (only a few missions left), but I might start over and pick a different class. I never really played a caster and I keep going stealth.

Possible those mods still work!

But this looks like it's just a coat of paint.

Mods break between just updates of a game how could they possibly work on a full remaster? Skyrim mods didn't work on special edition either, and that was barely different.
But this looks like it's just a coat of paint.
And this is why I'm waiting until there is full mod support or at least it can be confirmed that the game is not broken.

Have they fixed the enemies scaling? And how is the draw distance, lot's of objects popping into view?

From what I have seen, there is at least some pop in but only on very long distance objects. Like you have to stand on hill to see it.
