Tencent didn't acquire FromSoft, they just increased their share in Kadokawa from 6.8% to 7.9%, not even enough for a majority. Sony holds the majority at 10%, and their increased share was for access to Kadokawa's library of anime IP.

Still though..

Ahead of the game's release on PC, From Software shared the patch notes for the day one update, update 1.01...accompanying the official patch notes is a warning for PC users that PC configurations using the latest graphics cards may experience frame rate drops...this issue is under investigation, but anyone experiencing a significant drop is advised to turn down graphics settings from the default High to Medium or Low, or lower the game's resolution...

How are you supposed to learn bosses in this game? A big part of Elden Ring was dying to the same boss over and over again, sometimes for hours on end, until you finally memorized their move set and timings. What made this possible is that there were spawn points right next to the boss that allowed you to try as many times as you like. There was no downtime between attempts, thus it was easy to practice and "git gud".

But in this game you only get one shot at a boss, right? If your team dies, you're forced into another 40 minute run before you can try again. So how do you learn a boss with that much downtime between attempts?

I hope you buy the game before player base runs dry From needs to stay in business.

Nightreign is just an experimental type of game and not one of their mainline games like Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring etc...hopefully they announce their next main game at Summer Game Fest next week (June 6th)

This isn't a charity. If FromSoft wants my money, they need to make a product I want to buy, and this game isn't it.

Just scoped out the Reviews Mixed but yet 200k are playing I think they would be happy playing any other game. Someone said if you don't have a mic and two friends don't bother. This game is a Boss Rush game so that isn't going to work people don't like time constraints in games unless it's a layed back MMO. Saw a complaint about the Fire Circle being too fast.

the player numbers are really good...313,593 peak...From Software can do no wrong

incredible...I didn't think this would be a huge success but I guess you can never underestimate the power of From Software and their art direction, combat and overall gameplay...current best developer in existence

So that must mean you're playing it if you're impressed with the gameplay.

I keep saying that's an incredibly dumb argument...you don't need to play every single game or watch every movie or read every book in order to form an impression...that's what trusted reviews are for and trusted players (not just any random Steam review or reviews from unreliable sources)...trusted sources is the key...meaning people whose reviews generally are fair and balanced and whose impressions line up with your own

do you play every single game in existence before deciding if you like it or not?...I'm familiar with From Software and their Souls formula and I've read reviews of Nightreign...I still don't think it's for me but I'm impressed by From Software's ability to deliver another winning game

I didn't buy Armored Core 6 either as I didn't think I would like the gameplay loop...I feel comfortable in that decision...everyone makes their own decisions on what they may or may not like using whatever criteria they deem important...it's not up to you to tell me what criteria I should use to determine if a game is worthwhile or not...I haven't played some incredibly well reviewed games (I hate top down gameplay and turn based combat) and have played some lesser reviewed ones

explain to me why people are playing it if not for those things...did they just blindly buy it because they are From Software fans?...if so that would mean AC6 should have done just as well in terms of sales...did they buy it because they are bored and there's nothing else to play?...did they buy it because of the price?...do people like playing bad games?

It would be one thing if you were quoting somebody else, but you explicitly separated the portion I was referring to before linking the article.

Yes, people will blindly buy anything based on brand recognition, and there is a phenomenon in the Souls community to want to be the first to accomplish or discover something in one of their new games.

I don't understand what you're saying...what article are you referring to?...and what part did I separate?...the Twitter post about the 2 million?...I separated my opinion on top followed by the Twitter link afterwards...I made a clear separation to make sure that it was clear that my opinion was on top...I really don't understand what you're trying to say

From Software does have a dedicated fanbase but that doesn't mean that every fan of Elden Ring or Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne is going to blindly buy Nightreign...look at the recent Doom game...id Software has a dedicated fanbase yet Dark Ages is not selling nearly as well as the previous Doom games

They definitely are buying because it's from software coming off a huge success with Elden Ring. And in a way this is like Elden Ring DLC. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't extremely popular.

but it's not like Elden Ring...if you're going into it expecting more Elden Ring you're going to be disappointed...maybe someone who hasn't read up on Nightreign would think that this was an Elden Ring DLC but I would think that most gamers would know...it is Elden Ring on a superficial level with re-used assets but it's not in terms of actual gameplay

I thought FromSoft fans were smarter then this ;) ...seems like some folks didn't read any previews or early impressions and didn't realize Nightreign was not an Elden Ring story expansion
Because the majority of those fans are 14, and can't be told shit because stupid boomers just don't understand, and they do it for the culture.

Demon's Souls came out in 2009 so I'll use that as a baseline where it started to reach a higher level (even though the King's Field games came out earlier)...Dark Souls 1 was when it started to penetrate the mainstream so the average From fanatic is probably in their 30's or 40's...long live the king!

I've long said that the From Software experience is unlike anything else in gaming...it's not just a game, it's a From Software experience...I said it earlier in this thread before official reviews were released- I was not expecting this to do as well as it's doing in terms of player numbers/sales but even with that I was still expecting scores in the 8 range as even a slightly underwhelming From Soft game is still better than most other titles

You must not know many teens.
Dark Souls and Elden Ring are pretty big with the voice cracking nerds these days.

I service quite a few of the nerds parents Pc's and talk the talk so they like me, even if they are into consoles.
It took the place of Minecraft and Fortnite as they matured.

I don't know hardly any 30-40 year olds that play games except a few of my family members.
Their more into sports, fishing, hunting, guns, drugs, off-roading (I live in Kentucky) . The most gaming they will see is probably Monopoly Go.
Contrary to popular belief, the old gamer isn't all that common.

I can see that being the case but I also think the stereotype of gaming only being for teenagers no longer really applies...lots more older gamers nowadays, lots more options to game- console, Steam deck, VR, Switch etc

True, but I don't think most of the adults around here are willing to shell out $500 + on a handheld.

I decided to give it a shot even though the core gameplay loop didn’t really interest me and I’ve got to say, it’s actually pretty fun.

I’m finding it pretty damn difficult though. I’ve only played with randoms so far and generally just try to follow whoever is placing pins. In maybe 8 or so hours of runs I’ve only managed to beat the final (wolf) boss once.

So far I’m struggling with the pace, you have to be on the move almost constantly, and coming up with a viable build with RNG being a factor in the amount of time you have has not been easy for me so far.

Anyone here playing? I need heeelp!

So far I’m struggling with the pace, you have to be on the move almost constantly...

that's the thing which is the biggest drawback for me...with From Soft games I love playing at my own slow pace...taking my time, exploring everything, talking to everyone etc...with Nightreign it seems all about rushing to get to the end of the day or next Night Lord boss...no time to stop and enjoy the environment or area etc

I read this Nightreign review online and I think it accurately describes the gameplay:

"Elden Ring: Nightreign, more than many other FromSoftware titles, is likely to be an acquired taste for most players. My first few Expeditions into Limveld weren't particularly enjoyable, but the more I learned its mechanics, and the less I expected a traditional Soulslike with some roguelike elements sprinkled in, the more the game grew on me. Now, after dozens of failed Expeditions and a handful of successful ones spread over 30+ hours, I find it hard to put down"
