Its the latest release of info about the X-Fi.

After a quick read, its hard to separate the "real" advancements (if any) from the bull....

well they point out that the in-game music is really crappy and that it would be better if it was cinematic, proper cinematic music in games is something that ive only dreamed about

the only thing that might be interesting although i doubt is an XFi specific (it still has to be developed into games) is the..

EAX Voice
Furthermore if the game title supports 3D Voice Over IP then other players in the game will be able to hear your voice as you do and coming from the correct direction!

essentially in a game like BF2, when using hte VoIP , when you talk you would sound like it came from your character, which could prove a very interesting technology when put to use (especially if MMO games picked up on it)..

but then again, any developer could put this in now by incorporating the VoIP into their 3d audio engine (or so it would seem they could)..

the only other thing that is an improvement is the 128 voices (increased from 64?)..

although still no dolby digital encoding..

Certification costs quite alot, but its still a bummer to see that. Maybe they will change their minds .... doubtful :p

i would love it even if was a daughter card you inserted and payed 50$-70$ for (i'd have no problem with that at all)..

but the fact that the option isn't even there is annoying..

Someone made a good point about this. It might have been on this forum....

Anyway, the gist of it is, since Creative gets a large part of their revenue from the multi-media speaker business, they are going to resist DDLive because it will discourage people from using HT speaker systems instead of multi-media speakers. In fact, they have even come out with products (such as the DDTS-100) that facilitate the use of multi-media speakers IN PLACE of HT speaker systems.

whoever figured that out is pretty thoughtful, it makes a lot of sense. Furthermore, this is probably why they don't enable EAX 3+ over s-pdif out, only 2 channel audio is sent for unencrypted content like game audio.

I guess the moral of the story is:

until ppl only purchase cards that have DD encoding, Creative won't switch to it.

I'm afraid I can't help in this cause, as I would probably purchase the Xi-Fi for the offloading of audio tasks, 128 voices, EAX Voice feature and the headphone positioning.

I also wouodn't mind a 24bit DSP for upsampling game audio, even though game audio are crappy resolution MP3's most of the time.

when is this X-Fi deal suppose to hit the street, anyone know????

This month's maximum pc has a creative xi-fi ad that says 8-21-05 (It doesn't say what will happen on that day, it's just the creative xi-fi ad with a chip in the middle and 8-21-05 toward the bottom).

In time for the back to school crouds. Audigy and the rest launched almost during the same time of the year so the 8-21 seems right.

Now they have a compromise....this way they still get our money!
In case you didn't already see this

Wiil EAX Advanced HD 5.0 be supported in Audigy2 zs? if it is, I won't buy X-Fi at the first release, because I still satisfied with the gaming performance with Audigy2 zs. .

Probably not, even though it may be technically possible to support SOME of the features.

I'm also really excited about this game music tool.

I hope every developer takes the time to create music that comes from specific parts of the soundstage, just like a movie soundtrack.

Right now, game music really only comes from the front left & front right channels, and anyone who listens to surround music can tell you that when music is in surround and especially MIXED for surround, it's so much more absorbing.

Also, dynamic music would be nice in a lot of different games.
