I have had several users ask what is the performance of the E2140's in my farm.

E2140 1.6Ghz 1MB L2

Mine are overclocked to 2.66Ghz
Running SMP - Linux Folding CD

Running Project 2605
Current Estimate: 1299.69 Points per day
Time to complete WU 1 day 4 hours.

Update Estimate: 1434.57 Points per day
Total time to complete WU: 1 day 4 hours

Getting around 1469.22 PPD - (Have completed 7 WU and average holds steady)
(+/- 2 PPD based on my three folding systems that are identical)

Since some of you asked, and since i just got a kill-a-watt here are some numbers.

71 Watts - After 5 Min of Running

50 Watts - Bootup
78 Watts -After Bios & CD-Rom Spin up
71 Watts - F@H Running CPU 100%

VA = 111
Amp = .97

System is CPU, RAM, MB, and CD Only. No HD, or Video Card.

If you need more info just ask, still learning how to read this thing.!

Looks like a pretty good performer for $70.00!
 
Damn, it's about 340mhz slower than my X2@3Ghz and only does about 69 points less. Then again, I'm not going to complain about an X2, mobo, PSU, RAM and a couple other things for $200.

 
Is it worth it to go SMP on a non-overclocked E2140? I just started folding and one of my machines is a Dell Vostro with an untouched E2140, not sure if it can handle the SMP client though.

anyone know how limited these quantities are? i'm about to run to roseville to buy one right after a shower. great find, i was about to buy an E2140 for the same price off newegg.




edit: just went by and picked one of the combos up, they had 3 remaining after mine. I even got the retail version.
 
I have a buddy in Dallas that just picked up an E2200 combo for the same price from his local fry's, he was really excited considering he's been running my old athlon xp-m for the last 18 months!

Not sure why he could get the 2200 for the same price as the other stores have the 2180, but he's not complaining!

I've got my 2140 up and running. It's still stock and not folding yet, but that should happen soon. Probably tonight. Once I get everything setup I'll start the overclocking and folding. More as it develops.
 
I really need a 32 bit linux client if I ever want to keep getting those T2700s running.
 
Well I've got my 2140 running at 2.4ghz, which considering it started at 1.6 is a decent overclock. Still nothing compared to the 6600 I sold, just gives me more incentive to get that quad sooner. :)

Here's part of the log from last night. Keep in mind my memory isn't running full speed, about 750mhz since i'm still working on the cpu speed. Once thing I know for sure, the stock cooler BLOWS. All aluminum SOB!

Here is how I have overclocked these systems - Stock FSB is 800mhz

On my F@H Farm - Using Abit AB9 Motherboard / DDR2 800Mhz

Set CPU for 1333 strap - 333 * 8 = 2.66 GHz
No voltage Change needed
(Only over 2.8Ghz - 3.0Ghz does vcore need addition power)

Memory div of 1:1
Memory will be 333mhz at that point (667 mhz effective)

On my File Server / Main System- Using Intel 975XBX Motherboard / DDR2 800Mhz
Go into AdvancedChipset menu

Set CPU for 1066 strap
Power Slope enabled
Set to Positive
Boost percetage to 30
Default for PCI and PCI-E

Go to memory
Set manual-user defined
Set memory for 533 strap (this will make you 1:1)
(533 +30% burn in = 667 mhz effective)

Yeah my biggest problem right now is that I'm short on cooling. I've got sweet watercooling but i need to buy some new tubing and other things to complete its setup. That's a project probably for feb.

If you want to run the Linux SMP client you can't use a 32 bit Linux OS. The SMP requires 64 bit.

If you're looking for a regular 32 bit Linux client, it's on Stanford's download page. It's version 5.04 which is the same version as the Windows client.

yea the T2700s didn't have x64 support huh....better hope for a rewrite of the client, though i suspect the inherent speed increases with 64-bit will keep them from going that route

 
VJ has commented that they are still working on it. I hope it is released soon.

Isn't the T2700 Core2 based? I was under the impression all Core2 processors had the 64 bit instruction set and it was the old Core based that didn't have it. I guess I should do a little bit of research on this tonight if I have the time. I hate looking like an idiot and hate having wrong information even more.

T2700 is a Core Duo. Core 2s launched with the E6x00 line in the desktop space and the T5x00 in the notebook space.

 
Any overclocking success on the ECS 945GCT-M/1333 board that comes with some of the Fry's combos?
 
Their is a thread in hot deals on it. doing some kind of mod on the chip to get it up there in speed.
