Hey guys, I was looking for a good burning and ripping program for my DVDs. I have a huge collection and I'm trying to digitalize everything. The ability to convert the file formats would be a huge plus too. Thanks in advance for any help offered!

DVDFab is in my opinion, the best there is for ripping DVDs. It also has conversion capabilities but to be honest I've never used them. It also handles burning.

what he said. I bought a life time sub and it was definately worth it. The conversion utilities work very well and will output the file for the device of your choice

I used to use DVDShrink. Its free and was one of the best free programs that I remember. Hope they have a version that works on windows 7 now.

AnyDVD is the best ripper. There really isnt a need to convert the format. DVD is in MPEG-2 which is a perfectly compatible format for all sorts of players and software.

I always keep it in the original format because I don't want to lose quality to compression. You could put the movie in a different container like MKV if you wanted though.

I still use DVD Decryptor to rip but both AnyDVD and DVDFab are good. For burning tasks, I generally use ImgBurn. I do any editing/filtering/mods to the video manually using AVISynth, Virtualdub, etc.. And If I need to recreate the DVD structure, I use DVD Lab Pro. For a standalone MPEG-2 encoder, I use "HC."

I have used MakeMKV and it's pretty nice if you're looking to archive your discs on your PC.

MakeMKV is the bomb as long as you want a 100% digital version of the original (no compression).

Same. Straight Video_TS or BDMV folder structure (Main Movie selection). No decryption software like AnyDVD is needed. DVDFab can decrypt just fine on its own. Never met a disc I couldn't rip.

MakeMKV also requires no decryption software. Just insert disk, pick the files/subtitles/audio streams you want and rip. It works fast because it's a straight rip with no compression/changes to the original file.

their website is too confusing. I can't even tell which option to pick among all the options. That makes Handbrake/AnyDVDHD an easier option to go with, IMO.

The author quit that years ago. Allegedly he was the lead programmer for Nero Recode. Anyhow, it still works in 7, but it does not handle some newer rip prevention systems all that well. You can get around that by using AnyDVD or similar first.

It's not so much confusing as the developer's getting a little too greedy. The software purchase are as you see them: DVD copier, DVD ripper, Blu-ray copier, Blu-ray ripper, 3D Blu-ray ripper, and so on.

I was fortunate to have bought DVDFab before they decided to slice it all up.

It would make more sense if the developer bundle DVD/Blu-ray ripper and copier into one software package, while making extra profit on 2D-to-3D converter, media player and the other software.

As it stands, you can buy the DVD and Blu-ray copier/ripper/converter bundle here for $199.00

i still use dvd decrypter and handbrake to transcode. most movies come in around ~1gb with good quality.
