Dual processor build recommendations

There's a new Lian Li PC-V2120 case coming soon that will hold the SR-2, in addition to the Lian Li linked above. I'm getting the Mountain Mods U2-UFO.

edit: the Mountain Mods "options" add up quickly. My case was $550 including custom back panel. The SR-2 mobo tray is only $10 more when ordering a case, plus $25 for the brace if you're getting a horizontal layout. Anodized black finish (as opposed to plain brushed aluminum) was $100, which hurts.

That lian li pc 80 can be found for less than $300. I saw it for around $270 shipped recently.

Not cheap by any stretch, but also not like the mountain mods deal for $400 (isn't that before the $100 mobo tray?!?)

I don't like that support bar running down the middle. I think it would run into a HSF.

Yes, most that I'm aware of on this team seem to be, but some are intending to get a chassis for it. Incidentally, my decade-old Chenbro server case would fit the SR-2 with minimal modification mainly to permit the bottom slot to be usable (if I'd ever need it), but cannot afford the cost of such a system build unfortunately.

Find a 4U rack case it fits in and I might be interested. My piece of plywood looks pretty good to me, though.

I'm even cheaper. Using the box it came in. Even has a slot to insert the bottom of any PCIe cards.

That bar is pretty far away from the mobo, if it's like my PC-P80 case, and yes, it is removable for sure, and not required IMHO. Not sure about $$$, but the Lian LI PC-P80 is confirmed by toTow over on the foldingforum as being SR-2 compatible. That's what he has his SR-2 in now.

Efficent PSU's then - so no savings to be had there unless you want to go really mad.

So 60k with the GTX - you will probably find its a wash PPD wise or maybe slightly ahead for the GPU/CPU combo. With the GPU I would guess at about 420w. Definately want to see how this turns out, either way i reckon stil over 140PPD/W, i was over at FF earlier looking for numbers and found last years PPD/W thread - we were impressed if we got 40 PPD/W

Right now, it is at 59.8K with the GPU (48.8K CPU, 11K GPU). Shutting down the GPU gains about 2K on the CPU at most. So, I would get 50K-51K CPU only on this machine. I don't have power draw numbers yet.

Ok so I would leave GPU/CPU running as long as its close to your 400w goal, however just CPU folding is likely to be ~180PPD/W - depends on how strict your 400w power budget is and whether its PPD or PPD/W that is the main goal.
