Droid

1. Keyboard lags like a mofo, all 3 of them.
2. Device gets super hot.
3. Screen becomes unresponsive when browsing, cannot slide down.
4. Links won't click, they scroll the screen all the way to the bottom, lol.
5. Phone and browser apps crash.
6. If I plug my headphone into the device it falls right out. It's like I'm plugging a 1/8th into a 3.5mm.
7. Drops calls like a champion.
8. Battery dies in 6 hrs.
9. Standing directly over my WAP, I have 1 signal bar. I believe this could be the reason 50% of my browsing sessions end up in page cannot be displayed.

My wife and I both have Droids, we have not experienced any of these issues.

Perhaps you're one of the unlucky few that has received a lemon?

My wife has had 7 LGs over the past 15 months and I've had two XV6800s. We are quite happy to finally receive (hopefully, and so far so good) a reliable phone.

Plus, the exit of the XV6800 was also the last Windoze related devices I own! Freedom at last :D

I got to play around today with a droid. While its a good phone, I don't know if I would buy it over a palm pre or iphone 3gs. I noticed the homescreen lagged quite a bit and there was lag (like the mentioned keyboard lag) when you have bigger apps open.

On the plus side, I love the size.

I live in Arizona. We have lots of sun. I've never seen green.

It usually takes me on average 5 attempts to get green for focus. On good attempts 1-3, average 5, sometimes up to 9 attempts. It's ridiculous I'll admit, but I don't buy a phone for the camera so I can wait for the update.

The video camera has proven to be awesome on my phone.

You clued me into something, you live in Arizona. Your phone may get warmer than say mine. I live in Indiana where we are averaging in the love 50's currently. It gets warm, but nothing uncomfortable. TBH I've had my iPhone 3gs multitask with the Backgrounder app less than this phone and it always got much hotter. At any rate your climate may have something to do with it.

You mentioned trying to get a replacement, and I 100% agree. Your phone sounds like a lemon because I haven't had near that amount of issues. However, I can still confirm the touch a link and it scrolls to the bottom of the page/screen. I can't reproduce it reliably yet, but it happens at least once a day.

Remember it looks like Verizon will supply updates for the Droid and Eris on December 11th. Check to see if your issues are listed, I know the camera focus is.

I have sold 12 so far with zero returns. I prefer my imagio and have sold many of them as well. There is a phone for everyone. The Droid is a superb phone in my experience.

Running Open Home + Better Keyboard really improves my Android experience on this phone. Bouncing back and forth, some of the Open Home skins will cause Open Home to force close, but with the default theme I get good stability and performance.
I just hope that multitouch is enabled on the phone. If this happens then I will be extremely excited and happy. Heck even if Verizon doesn't I'm sure the community will come up with something. I've read some people are advancing well in the root attempt, so maybe custom ROM's will be on order soon :)

I went over to my local Verizon store to check out the Droid and was immediately warned to stay away from the Droid by the girl that’s always helped me. I went around to the other agents in the store and asked them about the phone and one guy said he simply is refusing to sell them.

They say that they’ve had nothing but trouble with the phones and are steering people toward better options like BlackBerrys, HTC, etc. At the moment they said every Droid they have sold has been returned or exchanged for a BlackBerry for one reason or another.

It was a total buzz kill and I have faith in my agent who has done me no harm in my phone selection over the years. They all thought that after a second revision or the phone or something it has the potential to be a really nice device but being so new and the problems they’ve had with it, they were recommending people to stay away.

:(

There are some agents that are really feeling the pinch this year. The smaller ones are in a cash flow crunch and the Droid is not profitible compared to the Blackberries. I suspect your agent may have a financial agenda and is steering in the direction of phones that meet your needs while not imposing as much of a hit on cash flow. Not the best approach long term but some of the smaller agents have trouble with the razor sharp margins of the new phones that Verizon will whore for market share at the detriment of the very agents that made them successful.

The Droid should be 399.00(based on what the agent has to pay for it which is around 550) with a $100 rebate/net 299.00 to the customer assuming full support for activesync security policies , then I bet your agent would sing another tune

Is there a way to dim/turn off the 4 main "buttons" on the Droid after some point?

I currently run the "Night Clock" app as my alarm clock and having those 4 lights stay on is bothersome. I end up just putting the phone facedown but it'd still like to be able to glance over a see the time (which I've very dark and dimly) and not have the 4 lights staring back at me.

I'm replying to the thread on my netbook because DROID #2 won't let me.

11 MB movie demonstrating the web and email problems. Both of the DROIDS had this issue. In addition to this, I'm still getting page cannot be displayed errors. WiFi logo stays there w/ either 1 or 2 bars throughout all of the errors. I have used a netbook, 4 different notebooks, an iPod touch 3rd gen, and a Sony X on my router wo/ issue in the last 2 months.

Yeah we get it bro, just get it replaced already. There are some issues that are being addressed with an update on or around the 11th.

I've already gotten it replaced. Not being able to post on a forum w/ the phone is sort of a problem, don't you think? Perhaps you could be helpful and let me know if you're getting the same email problem.

Basically looking @ the email on my netbook shows 1 reply. But looking @ it on the DROID shows all of them, including the ones I deleted and have been dumped into the trash. Maybe this is a setting?

Responding from my droid right now. Did not have that problem at all. Never gotten a page cannot be displayed error either unless I typed in a wrong address

Just tried to click on the reply link from the email and it did not load the page for me. Just took me to the web browser. I have to manually copy the url, then paste it in. Also try editing your post...can't do that either. :(

Wow man. That's kinda jacked up. Mine doesn't do that stuff at all.

I've had it jump to the bottom of lists, but never that consistently.

You said your friends loved theirs, have you tried one of those? Surely they wouldn't be happy with a problem-laden device.

No, but I'm thinking zup and I need to hang out here pretty soon.

Fyi, check out gmail in the browser. It does not pull the same weird crap. It also has an onscreen "menu" button for quickly changing labels, lol.

EDIT: This posted from my DROID, but I got an error "this forum requires that you wait 33 sedconds between posts..." Maybe a single click on my DROID = 2 clicks? Either way, I'm hoping this is a bug and that there are others out there to confirm it.

When I click on the box it conviently zooms in so I can type. You must be incredibly unlucky. This is from my droid......

Yup, its doing that bfor me now. I have to click it a 2nd time for type to appear though. Thanks for all the replies guys, its helping me test the forum reply notis. Really odd that the gmail app digs them out of the trash, yet the web version does not do this...on the phone or my netbook.

Edit: posted thagt from droid with only a few quirks...couple scroll downs and a couple lags

Eidt 2: michaelkahl: r u quick with the link tapping? I have beeen clicking deliberately with my links and that seems to help in avoiding the auto scroll. Perhaps this is why we are experiencing the issue and others are not. (Got another page cannot be displayed and had to type this over)

Are you only getting the page not found message when using wifi? Does it do it on 3g? If so you router could be incompatible, have incompatible settings or just need to be reset to default settings and set back up.

Just happened, lost another huge post. Screw it! Lag lag, no post highlight, lag, autoscroll, omfg it is side scrolling now

Not viewable on the droid.

EDIT: just saw the video. It's a like a completely different phone. No way in hell could I hit a number, lol!

View My Video

Ok, there's entering in text with all of the different keyboards.

Edit: Ya they are flash based and not on youtube, so they wouldn't show up on any phone that didn't have flash, which none do, I believe. I looked at it on mine, and if you click the upgrade to flash 9, it comes up with a page from adobe saying flash is coming first half of 2010 to android 2.0.

I'm not even gonna look. Too painful.

BTW: I'm off WiFi and using 3G right now. 3 bars, then 2 bars. It's been loading this page for nearly 2 minutes...

Of course I'm getting email notifications in the background the whole time. :(

EDIT: I can't even get to the page in 3G. Oh and I did watch the video. When I hit buttons, they appear a second after I hit them. Also, I need to press the post box 2 or 3 times, which inevitably leads to the auto scroll down. If somehow I can get through all that, it will page cannot be displayed after typing up a post. I find it really hard to believe I could have gotten 2 crap DROID's in a row.

Pre's looking a little better now, huh? ;)

It is hard to believe, but what other explanation could there be? I haven't seen anyone else with these issues, and as you can see, I'm not having a remotely similar experience, as you said it seems like a different phone. All of that was on 3g as well. I don't even bother using wifi it's too fast to bother.

So yea it must be the phone(s)you have.

Retard maybe?

No but seriously man, I have seen no issues like you are complaining about. I have 3 friends with droids and have referred them to your posts. They have not experienced these issues either and are dumbfounded with what you are explaining.

Are you sure you don't have sausage fingers or something?

I'm 5'6", so probably not. U have no idea the amount of grief I go through to reply on this phone. It takes me 3 or 4 tries every time.

Just because you're not tall doesn't mean you're not wide.

Actually I am, let me do some testing to see if that helps replicate it. I certainly am more deliberate after I try the second time.

160lbs...I have larger than average hands and somewhat bigger thumbs, but I don't think fatfingering is the issue here.

I'll be trying to click in the quick reply box, and it will fight me. Either I can't type or it will scroll down. After about 10 tries, I give up. If by some chance I am able to get in here and type, it's crazy laggy. Each character takes 1-2 seconds to appear.

Have you tried a different browser?

Try downloading Dolphin Browser, it's free.
