Droid

Just tried to click on the reply link from the email and it did not load the page for me. Just took me to the web browser. I have to manually copy the url, then paste it in. Also try editing your post...can't do that either. :(

Did you buy this at a corporate store or off the internet? There is a grey market for the first run engineering samples that have deta os on them/

View My Video

Ok, there's entering in text with all of the different keyboards.

Edit: Ya they are flash based and not on youtube, so they wouldn't show up on any phone that didn't have flash, which none do, I believe. I looked at it on mine, and if you click the upgrade to flash 9, it comes up with a page from adobe saying flash is coming first half of 2010 to android 2.0.

The Droid is Flash 10 ready , Adobe will release very soon .

I haven't successfully repeated the issue where I tap a link and it scrolls to the bottom. I tried capturing it on video, but it never did it. Then when I was just using the phone, it did it. I pulled the camera out, recreated the scenario and nothing.
I got my Droid from a Best Buy Mobile.

I have had this issue twice. It pans all the way to the right and scrolls down as fast as possible.

Have you tried a different browser?

Try downloading Dolphin Browser, it's free.
No, but I shouldn't have to. 2 of my buds have the same phone with none of the issues I'm having. Ill check out dolphin once I get a working phone. Gonna call smartphone tech support tonight and see if they've heard of this.

Shipped from telesales, 2nd from corp store.

Unfortunately I can recreate it all day long. Although I'm glad to hear its not the norm. When it works, its a good experience. This is why I'm hoping to get things sorted out.

Question for u guys. How do I close apps? For example, I use the car dock and google nav to get somewhere, but how do I. Exit the app? I don't need it running in the background. And I'm not going to be using task killer everytime I get to a stop. There has to be a way to close these things.

EDIT:Wow! That whole post went through with no issues! Happy day!

Bought my Droid on the 6th, and I love it. Battery life is exceptional, operating system is smooth, Marketplace is great, lots of free Apps. This absolutely blows WinMob 6.5 out of the water(my last phone). I can't believe I waited this long to switch to Android :)

What home replacement application are you using?
What skins are in use as well?
I'd guess an iPhone icon skin pack and BMW skin?
How stable is your home replacement app? I use open home and get a lot of crashes. I also have better keyboard installed, but it's never crashed on me.

Damn, I'm severely torn on getting the Droid now. I got a Voyager last year and am not due for my upgrade until April. But a verizon rep said I could do an early upgrade now for a $20 fee and get the Droid for $100 after a $100 MIR. Not way too bad I suppose and I guess I could sell off my Voyager to make a bit back.

The only thing keeping me from doing is wondering if Moto is gonna release a better model next year around the time of my upgrade anyways. Does anyone foresee a Driod refresh in the next 6 months? I can live with my Voyager until then, I think. It's a decent phone still.

Same. I love my iPhone 3G but recently AT&T has completely shit on me (up till now they've been good but not great) and I'm getting missed calls, dropped calls, and even voice mails will arrive 30+ minutes after they've been left.

So right now Droid is really tempting. I have probably a year left on my iPhone contract so breaking that would be $115 or something. My wife is on Verizon and with the family plan we would upgrade to I would be saving $80 a month by moving to Verizon. So the Droid phone would actually pay for itself and the ETF in about 6 months.

Guess in the long run that's pretty much a no-brainer on what to do huh?

That $20 fee on an annual upgrade is usually only from corporate stores. I work for a retailer and we do not have those "junk" fees like the corporate stores. Id shop around if I was you, the annual upgrade isnt anything special that only that rep could do.

You will also make a nice bit on selling the iPhone as well.

A new iPhone 3G 16GB is only $150 so I'll probably keep it because of all my apps and use it only on the WiFi or keep it on airplane mode. An iPod touch 32GB is $280 and I'm not paying Apple for future updates for anything so I'm better off keeping my iPhone. At least this way future OS releases I can still get for free.

The more I read about Droid the more I want one. Guess I'll talk to the wife tonight and see what she says and then visit Verizon to check it out hands on to see if I like it.

If you really want the iPhone / iTunes experience then I agree with your decision to keep the iPhone. I'm considering the same thing with my iPhone. I can keep it as a media / VOIP handset or sell it. Fortunately I can sell it for a good amonut since it's a 3gs that is jailbroken.

I find that the Droid fulfills my needs as a media player. The music app isn't as sexy as the iPod app, but it works and the quality sounds just as good IMHO. You can purchase DRM free music on iTunes and play it on your Droid with no issues. The album art even displays correctly.

If you really want the apps on your iPhone and can't find an alternative on the Android Market, then again I agree with your decision. With 15,000+ apps the Android Market is quickly growing and the apps are excellent.

Anyway, I hope that helps. I figured as a former iPhone customer I may as well share my thoughts since we are on the same boat.

I only have iTunes installed because of the iPhone. Will never purchase music from Apple. Amazon FTW!

Do appreciate the info. Is the playback quality of music/video the same/or better on Droid as iPhone?

The playback quality of video and audio on the droid is excellent.. the music player and video player aren't wonderful.. but you can find alternatives in the market if you don't like the stock ones.

What are you guys using to manage your music? And what about playlists?

I'm not picky as long as it plays it all back. I have a ton of movies already converted to h.264 mkv's for my iPhone. Will they play without problems on Droid or do I have to re-rip and encode?

I've been doing a lot of reading up on Droid and just sweet talked the wife into letting me get one if I think it will fit my needs after I see one up close. :D

I like a lot of what it does and what it will be able to do in the future. The whole multi-tasking thing is one thing I do hate about my iPhone 3G. It will be a wonderful change to be able to do more then one thing at a time. Plus the thought of just needing two or three 32GB microSD cards to hold a ton of movies for trips is simply awesome. No more needing to pick and choose movies and making sure to include a few of the wife's movies too. ;)

The playback quality of video and audio is on par with the iPhone in my opinion. I'm very happy with it.

The contrast and resolution make this device a definite step up for watching movies when compared to the iPod touch 3rd gen I had previously.

Where do you guys get most of your apps? Just the Android Marketplace or is there a Cydia type site? I don't know if Cydia does Android apps...I don't jailbreak my iPhone.

Just the market place so far. Woot! Glitch free post!

Maybe we could start up an android app thread? If that happens whoever OP's could update the post with the names, places, and definitely a description of the app. Or at the very least the posts should follow a similar format. Nothing more useless than a bunch of names without telling what it is or how much u like it imo.

Cool, thanks, good to know. It was actually one of those small Verizon booths in my mall, like the ones you see in the middle of the halls. So I dunno if it was a corporate office or not. This might be my wifes Christmas to me, so I'll shop around, lol.

the menu key lets you drill down till you eventually exit but you have to be in nav to get the exit option

I am using Open Home too. It crashes every once in awhile, but it restarts pretty quickly. Only reason I am using it is for the auto landscape rotating feature, which I think Motorola will fix in a firmware update(it worked out of the box Nov 6, but was disabled by an update).

The Icon pack was downloaded and installed through Open Home, I believe it is called 'Aero'.

And I am just using a BMW wallpaper I got off of e90post.com

I have BetterKeyboard as well and don't really like it. i installed the HTC IME keyboard, and I really would like it if it was skinned for the larger Droid screen :/

I usually find Apps on www.androlib.com and use the Barcode Scanner app on the Droid to download them from the Marketplace.

Jodiuh,
I posted a video finally of my screen flipping out and bouncing me to the bottom of the App Market. I've had it happen in web pages as well and the application menu, but haven't captured those yet.
My Video of the bug
I just did a quick tap, sometimes it worked sometimes it scrolled me down. This is one of those occurrences.

I have had much better luck slowing down my taps. Thanks for the vid tho, ill try to watch it on my droid. I've only had 1 disconnect today, but still a few buggy lag or unable to type errors. I think I'm going to wait a week or two for fresh stock and swap it out then. Hopefully ill get a good one! I just wish it wouldn't get so warm. Its annoying when browsing or making a phone call.

I found that if the GPS is left on it gets really hot by the camera. If I turn GPS when I'm not using it, then it goes back to normal. Give that a try maybe?

gps off, left side in landscape always gets too warm. This ones screen can be terribly unresponsive too. Sometimes I have to click or swipe 3x before it registers.

That really shouldn't be necessary with the newer SoCs being used in phones like the Droid. I keep GPS active on my Pre all the time, and it has negligible effect on heat and battery life.

My auto landscaping on the home screen stopped working. You say you are using Open Home for the auto landscaping feature. I downloaded the Open home and still the auto landscaping isn't working. I have searched through the Open Home settings, but can't find anything to enable it's own auto landscaping. Could you tell me how to enable that?

If you are having to swipe three times to get a response from the screen then you should exchange it. There are users on androidforums.com with the same problem and switching out phones was like night and day to them.

Got my Droid and told AT&T to kiss my ass. Love this phone so far and I've only had it for about 3 hours. :)

This was Motorola's comeback phone. I think they've blown their load for a while. Other phones will eventually start coming out with similar specs, but this is the King for the next few months.
