Dragon Age II

holy conflicting information batman. I think I'll just wait for a buddy of mine whose getting it to tell me how it is.

I warned by friend to avoid it after playing then demo. He bought it anyway and has just emailed me to say he should have listened to me! What can you do?

No kidding!

You can't change ANYTHING for the other party members? Tell me it isn't true. That's crazy talk. Right?

Some small spoilers here.

You equip their weapon and their accessories (rings, amulets, belts) but you do not equip armors. So far I only have three party members, but each one has a personalized armor that scales with their level and replaces the slots for chest, helmet, gloves and boots. Bethany's armor has gained some kind of a bonus to magic resistance that I believe stemmed from doing a personal quest for her. It filled in one of the four little bubbles beneath her armor in the character screen.

Not going to name names but I'm chuckling at a few of the people that were hating and doubting on this thing for weeks leading up to release (animations, youtube videos, etc.) and now love this game and like it even more than part 1. As expected. Called it weeks ago. ;)

Is the HUD centered in eyefinity? Did the fix the bug in the beta where you can't see any abilities when running landscape eyefinity?

Going to be installing some beta nvidia drivers, as apparently there are issues with the high res pack.

I'm a little disappointed that the game @ 1080p with Very High and the high res pack runs poorly (drops into single fps quite often) with no AA. Keeping track of my video card usage, it's barely being used and only slightly louder than idle.

Hopefully the drivers fix this.

*EDIT*

Alright, with the beta drivers, the game runs pretty smoothly (40+ fps) with 4x AA and 8x sampling, and the texture issues have disappeared.

There are those who have played the game some, and are starting to provide information, and there are those who haven't. So far, those who haven't are the usual suspects. They're here to tell us that Bioware is dead, that DA 2 was released unfinished, that EA loves to screw its customers, etc. etc.

And vice versa, we all know how much you think of the game already. We don't need to hear it for the thousandth time. In fact if you love it so much get off the boards and play the damn thing.

I hope you don't change your mind about the game and give up on it like you normally do, or change your opinion on it half way through. Are you a schizophrenic by any chance?

I cant comment on the unfinished part. That said, Bioware (that we know and love)is dead and EA does love to screw it's customers. BTW, not trying to flame you wabe, I generally agree with you on these boards and appreciate your sunny demeanor towards most games!

Wow you managed to guess that out of hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of gamers, at least some are going to hate on the game and later like it.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!

Impulse seems to have lost my preorder ... should I thank them?

Wabe, can you seriously stop crapping all over every thread? Everytime someone posts a negative comment about a game you have to jump in with your generalizations. We're talking about the game, not bashing it, which is what these forums are for.

~sigh~ Had to order pre-order mine from Best Buy. I t probably won't be here until next week to get it at $50 dollars. Sounds like it will be a very interesting wait. Anyone pull over game saves from DA:O/Awakening? Haven't finished my new run through yet and was wondering if it was worth hit.

It's time to embrace game download services and drop the ancient practice of walking into retail stores.

You retail pc game buyers are like ham radio operators.

I played the demo and am really disappointed by the combat system and feel and do not like the simplified options. I will not buy and play this game.

The problem is the digital copies cost the exact same as a retail copy. So for me it's impossible to justify a digital copy when I could have something physical in my hands for the same price.

And considering the high overhead costs of retail distribution the digital copies really should be cheaper. And if they were i'd certainly go that route. And do for steam sales.

But for the same price I just cannot justify purchasing a digital copy.

That said, ham radios still have their place as well. And would be widely used in the event of a large disaster.

Why would you post this here? Did you play the full game? No. Your post should've beem in the demo thread days ago. Jesus.

Does UPS ever drop off the package at an apartment office if a signature is needed? I know FedEx will take it to my apartment office. Oh well, I guess I'll be waiting until tomorrow to play.

Depends entirely on the driver.

It depends, sometimes they will only on the second delivery attempt, and other times it goes straight to the office and they put a note on the door.

Well it's worth the price because you don't have to talk to a ***** gaming cleck that say : WOW you still buy PC games... it's priceless

THIS thread is for people who are playing Dragon Age 2, not for people who played the demo.

Nor is this thread here so that people can have a general bash at EA or Bioware. And please, please do no accuse me of 'crapping all over this thread'. At no point in this thread have I attacked any person who has been playing Dragon Age 2 and communicated critical remarks.

I wouldn't attack the person anyhow, even if I did disagree with them about the actual gameplay, I'd attack their ideas.

The simple fact is, the people who clearly hated the demo, or just hate EA in general, are carrying that hatred into this thread, and I'm perfectly within my right to point that out. There's been very little discussion about this title so far anyway because obviously most people are at work and are working.

Those are the people I want to hear from. And of course I'm going to debate with them. What I'm not going to do is get into yet another DA 2 discussion with somebody who took the time to announce in The Dragon Age 2 Demo thread that they would not be buying this POS.

Great, thanks for telling us that. So what are you doing in here then?

My biggest complaint so far is that I feel like I am chained to Kirkwall. I'm like 5+ hours in and it seems to be the only central hub in the game. Really disappointing. I liked the structure of virtually every other Bioware RPG where you start in a relatively linear opening sequence which then opens up to a wide variety of locales to visit and experience, each with their own unique and important subplot regarding the overall story.

By this point in DA:O you could choose from going to Orzammar, Denerim, Redcliffe, the Circle of Mages and the Brecilian Forest. Each one had their own story loosely tied to the others and each one had a slew of interesting and unique lore and sidequests to do. Here I just run around Kirkwall and accept sidequests, go to the map screen, click on the place where it tells me to go and then do the quest in the little mini side zone.

I have no other major complaints than about the structure of the story. I suppose it may open up more if I stopped doing sidequests for 10 seconds and proceeded on the main story, but I don't like feel like I have to do that.

Can anyone using a GTX570/580 tell me their performance with the latest beta drivers? I was browsing the Guru3D forums and some people were having ridiculously low framerates with a GTX580 on DX11. Since I won't be getting the game until tomorrow, I can't test it out myself.

Haven't played the game or demo, but according to the IGN review the entire game is based around Kirkwall.

Someone didn't research their purchase.

Going to start playing tonight. From the reviews I've read it sounds like this game is Dragon Age meets Mass Effect. And if that is true, I think I'll be okay with it, just wish the name represent the game better. It's not Dragon Age 2, but Dragon Age Adventures.

it's sad to see that the game has improved so much from a technical point of view, but in the process, lost having a memorable story, characters, and dialogue.

Ugh. Too many disappointing sequals already this year.

After watching the review for this game I will definitely not be playing it. What a disappointment to true role playing fans.

SLI GTX 580's here... full DX11 settings + very high + high texures and I get maybe 10-25 fps? I only played for a few minutes this morning to test performance and didn't load up FRAPs. This is even with those beta drivers. Ridiculous.

I'm not saying it's the end of the world, I'm saying it's a bad design decision and it would have been better otherwise.

As far as research, I knew that Kirkwall was the primary hub, but 90% of the time I spent playing since reaching Kirkwall has been in Kirkwall. You don't leave it, there appear to be no other hubs in the game. This is not the conclusion I would have drawn from the information I have garnered, and I certainly didn't read any reviews that would tell me this because I consider it a massive spoiler.

I personally don't agree with the gamespot review.

1. DA2 looks MUCH better than Origins. Maxed out it's not even a contest. While I like to put game play above graphics I have to be honest that the graphics make the game more fun to play than Origins. The only downside is the game seems to run like crap on Nvidia cards.

2. I don't feel the combat is any less tactical than in Origins, at least when you play on Nightmare. They buffed up warriors and rogues and gave them several new abilities to actually make them fun to play. On Nightmare you have friendly fire and the enemies are a lot tougher. Also, they introduced cross class combos to the game. This makes the combat more tactical than in Origins, since you have to orchestrate your moves between classes to pull off big damage.

3. They streamlined a lot of things like Dialogue, loot, inventory. I actually don't mind these changes. If you enjoyed the cinematic cut scenes in Mass Effect 2 then you'll like the dialogue changes with DA2. The loot seems better this time, a lot less junk loot. Instead of finding countless rings of +10 cold resistance and amulets of +5 spirit resistance we actually find items that we can use.

Sorry I thought it was pretty well known.

Great, thanks for telling us that. So what are you doing in here then?

Like with the Dead Space 2 thread, you asked for thoughts and opinions and then jump down the throats of those who dare to disagree with you.

If you want a Dragon Age II, EA and Bioware Masturbation Lounge, you should put that in the title.

We appreciate your contribution to this thread.
Oh i'm sorry.

The simplified game play

The reduction/removal of tactical combat

The reduced difficulty level

The simplified level up/advancement system.

The fast-action oriented combat

Isn't this a thoughts - opinions thread? Not just a thread for EA Fangirls to adore their precious, right?

Anyone else liking the new force feature of the game? Combat actually takes the force of the blow into account now. So if someone lands a big hit on your character he may stagger for a few seconds or even get knocked down.

I'm finding on Nightmare that every hit on my mage staggers him to the point where he's unable to defend himself. He will literaly die in a few hits cause he keeps getting knocked down with no chance to react. I have to peel aggro off him with another character. Another example of how combat was not simplified.

I know in Origins I never had that problem.

So you're making the same points again that have already been countered by people actually playing and enjoying the game? Why are you still here?

Played it for about 6 hours on normal difficulty, it's been fairly fun so far. Normal difficulty is definitely easier in this game than the original. I don't mind that they 'streamlined' (dumbed down) or made easier some aspects of the game. So far have not had any of the complaints which I had with the original break the game for me.

The streamlining/lower difficulty allows them to somewhat fix a few of the issues with the original, such as certain class combinations being very overpowered where other combinations were underpowered, or the default AI being retarded, or the difficulty spiking sky high occasionally instead of progressing at the intended pace.

Yes, this is a thoughts / opinions thread, meaning for those who PLAYED THE GAME. Not the "I read a review and I have such-and-such prejudice towards it so here's my random hate".

No, I have not played the game yet, which is why, despite having played the demo, I'll not leave any comments on reviews or others' comments because, well, I haven't played it yet.

Apparently there is some huge bug that corrupts your imported DA1 plot elements. What you import wont necessarily be whats referenced in-game. For example, you learn that the warden is dead but in reality you did the Ritual in DA:O, things like that. Reports say the same bug also corrupts decisions made in DA2 itself. Decisions you make in ACT1 for example are not reflected properly in ACT2 and so on.
