here is a very nice preview of the Doom 3 expansion pack titled Resurrection of Evil...it sounds awesome...I wasn't that impressed by Doom 3 but the expansion sounds a lot better...

The expansion picks up about two years after the end of DOOM 3. The UAC has covered up everything that happened on Mars (blaming it on a reactor malfunction), cancelled all operations and cleared out. However, their satellites are still orbiting the planet, and when a strange beacon signal is picked up, the decision is made to put together a team and send them down to investigate....

Looks sweet. The graphics will be amazing. never was much of a doom fan though

Sounds like what D3 should have been. I just hope they actually add some functional AI that's better than that garbage in D3.

Am I the only one thats not going to fall for this?

D3 took years to make. Are they saying now that since D3 sold so good that they can make an expansion is no time at all?

All this is is the ending of Doom 3, with a slightly changed storyline so they can suck another $50 or so bucks out of the consumer.
I thought Blizzard was the King of that game.

Well, it does take some time to make such a finely tuned and polished game engine...

The difference is with blizzard their games kick so much ass that you want to pay the 30-40 bucks for the long expansion

yeah, exactly. blizzards stuff is almost always worth it.
i have no intention of getting the doom expansion...just more of the same.
even if they DO upgrade the AI and work on updating the original, id rather see that in a patch then pay bucks for it

and my only problem with doom 3 is they did so much work making a kickass lighting system they wanted to play off of light and darkness so much. A little more light and less guys just hiding behind pedastals would be nice.

I guess thats an opinion as well.
I don't like paying $40 for an expansion only to find out they didn't finish it and I have to wait for a patch so I can finish the last campaigns.

what are you talking about

From the moment that I first shot the weak little pistol and heard the squeeak that it makes when you fire a round, I knew that I was not going to enjoy the game. Good thing I DL the Demo and didn't buy it. CTF would be interesting and I wouldnt buy Doom 3 unless CTF was an option with the expansion. The sound must be changed also, and the horrible "music" in the backround needs to just disappear. D3 + expansion with new sounds and CTF = worth a look. D3 was just a horrible game.

Wait, does that mean I never beat FT? I bought it and played through it....thought I beat it

yeah and valve raped many with the original half life expansions, nearly full price, with less then 1/3 content

I welcome this expansion. I enjoyed Doom 3 although tired near the end, but I still think it kicks much butt. I don't really care that it was a "corridor-crawl" type game. It still blows away soo many crap games that are produced.

LOL Hello Blue Shift!

The game also features a new weapon called the "ionized plasma levitator" designed by the UAC to move around heavy objects. It's also called the Grabber for short. You take control of this tool which ends up being a worthwhile weapon as well. You can pick up anything barrel size or smaller and hurl them around. Think exploding barrels, shovels, rocks, and even projectiles from the enemy. Imp fireballs can be grabbed and hurled back as well as the smaller creatures like the trite and cherub.

Pretty clever idea. I wonder how they came up with that idea.

The first day they played HL2 :D

Ah yes Zoid's Courtyard Conundrum was one of my favorite Q3 maps.
I'll be picking this up for sure. :)

Heck I would buy this expansion just for the three wave ctf.

Im really hesitant about wasting any more money on doom3, especially since i didnt like its multiplayer that much, dont know how much this expansion will make a difference but HUGE props to threewave for getting the chance to do this, casey/scancode/etc are all talented guys, they deserve it and would be the ONLY reason I would check out this expansion.

the gravity gun really isnt a brilliant idea, i'd say its a logical extension of having created (or in valves case licensed) a physics subsystem.

Wow...someone completely missed the intended sarcasm.

i sure hope the monsters in this expansion dont have the same affinity for closets and hidden spaces inside walls as in the original. how they heck do they get in there anyway?! made me pee my pants...or squirt a few drops on occasion....

whoa dude, TMI ;)

i really hope that the marine that we play as will smart up and tape mirrors on his helmet so he can see behind him; monsters always spawn behind you :D

that levitation gun is too close to our friend in HL2...

That is one of the things that pissed me off about the game. Areas that I had thoroughly explored became monster havens once I hit a trigger point. They should be there from the get-go that is unless they are spawning monsters.

Didn't you hear? NASA discovered that things spawn randomly on Mars, and that is what the makes of D3 based it on :p (I agree with you)

this game is comeing out this march and it will be 35 dollars

if doom4 isn't out soon and blowing us away, the series should die. don't "squeek out just in time again to beat other bigger names and grab some quick cash" bs like they did with d3. get coding carmack!!!!

<YAWN>!!!

id stated they are working on a completely new game for their next project. Not quake, not doom, not wolfenstien.

Just like in the original Doom....Remember Doom 3 is a remake. What would a Doom game be like without spawning monsters?!

Some people it appears don't like story lines. The original monsters (in the beginning of the game) appear out of nowhere, why can't respawn monsters do the same?

give em the best lighting engine, an adrenaline pumping and thrilling game ala alien versus predator, a creepy story really well told via an orignal way and peoples will cry cause its too dark. But give em some l33t physics, shiny texture and reflection on a DRY floor and they will sacrifice a sheep in their living room claiming this is god's gift to humanity. To every1 his taste :)

ps : overall i enjoyed hl2 more too but doom3 is still one the best pc games ever :/

I am talking about when monsters pop out of a room or from behind a pillar I just looked at without the tell-tale orange sign-of-the-devil spawn action.

i'll play the demo first (if they release one that is) before i commit to plunking down the money on the expansion, i blindly bought d3 and came away unimpressed, that's not to say i think it sucks though, just aint my sort of game.
