Does this look ok?

My GT 240 just arrived that I'm going to be using for PhysX®, and I happened to notice this. Is it going to be a problem?

If the leads are still in there it should be ok, however, it looks like an easy solder job to fix.

If you bought it brand new and its not mission critical I would send it back for a new one. You never know what may happen over the coming years.

It's still stuck on there pretty good, and doesn't move at all. Does it look like it's still making enough contact?

You'd be wise to return it and not try to fix it, if it is a new card. The seller may reserve the right to not take it back, if your solder job is not pretty and the card doesn't boot after the repair. I'd only attempt that if you bought it used, with a no return clause.

Yeah - send it back - it's faulty manufacturing
- could indicate problems elsewhere with the soldering during manufacture

Good on sending it back, no way do you want to keep that. Brand new and it has already had a hard life.

Hard to tell from that pic, but it looks like a crack in the ceramic portion of that cap. I'd say impact damage, and you would never know what else got hit. Good on you for sending it back !

UPDATE:

I received the replacement card today just in time to try out PhysX in Mafia II. What do you all think? :D:D:D

That is terrible luck... :(

How did NewEgg respond?

I haven't contacted them quite yet as I just open the box a half hour ago. The outside box it shipped in was in pristine condition, which tells me they knowingly packaged up a crushed product. This is the only problem I've ever had with Newegg in the 7 or 8 years I've been buying from them. After giving them multiple thousands of dollars over the years I would hope the least they could do is give me an apology, a free non-damaged card, and for the person who boxed this one up to be fired! :D

stop breaking your video cards goddammit.

I just can't help it. Whenever I see a video card I go insane and things get broken. :p

Sad post to read, I've been a customer of theirs since 2002. Fortunately, I haven't experienced any bad packaging. I had to RMA a fault HDD years ago, was the easiest thing I've ever done... someone answered the phone on the first or second ring and the whole thing was done in less than 3 minutes.

I hope they don't let it all go to hell.

My packages arrive beat up and have poor packing anytime they're shipped from anywhere other than their southern california warehouse. Luckily, 8/10 times it is shipped from their SoCal warehouse.

They offered me a prepaid return label this time, so I reluctantly gave them a third try.

Oh yeah, protip with dealing with newegg defective returns: call and ASK for a prepaid return label, they will give you one for FREE! Also if you did the return for refund on the website there is no way to get around the restocking fee, so call in and they will waive it on defective returns.

I've gotten my fair share of damaged goods from newegg and they generally make good on things but it just takes a while to get it all worked out.

Newegg's third attempt was delivered today. I'm so glad I can finally try out PhysX, oh wait..................

they have really gone down hill lately. this is why amazon and TG get most of my biz.

That is some really bad luck. It must have been either a bad batch from PNY or the batch Newegg had in stock was dropped or mishandled somehow. Better luck next time.

Switch to Amazon - usually same prices, free shipping, and less hassle on the returns. I gave up on Newegg about 2 years ago.

Wow you must be so frustrated, IMO just send the thing back for a refund and buy elsewhere now. They obviously dropped a whole pallet of video cards somewhere.

are you trollin us now?

If not, that is very very shitty luck. Perhaps yell at Newegg and demand a free product!

Nope, not trollin.

A lady at Newegg who I had a chat with yesterday was supposed to issue me a refund, and email me a prepaid return label. That never happened so I called them back up today. I got a different lady this time who looked up my info then preceded to tell me "I am not seeing a RMA created. What was the RMA for?" I thought to myself, is she friggen kidding me? I went back and forth with her explaining the whole situation, and she gave me the impression that she didn’t believe they would send 3 damaged cards. At the end she finally said she’d issue the refund and mail me the return label, which I did get this time. If I was the crazy "fly of the handle" kind of person I would have demanded more, but I'm not. Lucky for them. I'll consider this a lesson learned. No more Newegg for me.*

* Unless they have a really good sale on something I want, in which case I'll compromise my principles.......maybe :D

HOLY.... shi*t man. LMAO .
I have not received a defective item yet. I guess you really have bad luck.

Man that really sucks. I'm stuck at work for 40 more minutes and have a 460 from newegg at my door, I am going to inspect the crap out of it lol.

Just a flesh wound. Bake it at 385 for 10 minutes and it will be fine.
