Yes, people are constantly using wireless devices to update windows on my computer through the walls. Right after they steal my thoughts when I remove my tinfoil hat.
so would you enjoy it if someone updated your pc wirelessly without your consent or not?
This question actually formed the central basis for all of my console buying decisions. When assessing which of the three next gen consoles I would be buying, the question that kept coming to the forefront was "Oh dear god in heaven, what if someone uses their sixaxis through the walls to download a firmware update released by sony" Obviously I couldn't risk the health and safety of my family with a console that could allow such a terrible occurrence.
In the end for the sake of my safety and security I bought a sega genesis and encased it in lead.
would you like if someone updated your pc wirelessly without your consent? serious question.

That happened to me once.
True story.
Yes, people are constantly using wireless devices to update windows on my computer through the walls. Right after they steal my thoughts when I remove my tinfoil hat.
Of course not, but you're assuming that someone will either:
1. Memorize the exact button combo to boot up a PS3, get into a particular PS3 screen, stand outside your house and mess with your console without looking
or
2. Peep through your window and screw with the console from outside.
Neither seems plausible. It's really a non-issue.

Wow, I guess you don't own a PS3 or you dont try to see what it can do.... Because the controllers are bluetooth they can send a frequency through a wall. I can power on my PS3, play games and navigate menus through walls....This isn't typical use, but I've tested it.
I guess you have never lived in a dorm, or lived in a college apartment, but I wouldnt want someone powering on my PS3 by mistake or even on purpose (a hardcore PS3 nerd that hates me or something) and know how many times to press left, right, up and down to udpate my system.
Since you can power on the PS3 by remote, what if the controller is int he couch, some lard butt sits on it and powers on the PS3 (not knowing they turned it on, because imput mode is on TV) and somehow starts updating..... It just an extra security step to make sure you want to update.... I see nothing wrong it it... I'm also not a total lazy ass.
Seriously, man, you're really grasping at straws here. Let it die. If you like it, so be it. That's great. But please, for the love of God, stop calling it a security feature.
Yeah, lack of rumble is a serious problem for me. It looks like Sony is addressing this issue though.
Sony's executives were spitting all over rumble, calling it last gen, and a bad feature, and so forth. then they settled their lawsuit with immersion and it's suddenly an awesome feature again.
I hope rumble adds a little weight to the sixaxis, I'll want my controller a bit heavier when I pick up a ps3.
Motion Control and Tilt Sensing
Next-gen vibration can work alongside motion-control and tilt-sensing features. Because the speed at which a user can move or tilt the controller is much slower than the frequencies generated by vibration feedback, it's possible to differentiate these signals using filtering and other techniques.
After all, Phil Harrison called rumble "last-gen" less than a week before the Immersion lawsuit was settled, he must have known that an agreement was imminent when he said that.
Wait, you want it lighter than it already is?
I just would prefer it not have as much dead weight as the Xbox360 controller. It's perfect the way it is now, IMO.
I also agree.
The only game I ever really liked with rumble was StarFox 64 that came with the rumble pack. Other than that I turn that feature off in any game that supports it, Never owned the rumbler pack for the DC and didnt miss it either.
The Playstation 3 does not suck. The price and lack of games suck. Give it about a year or two and sony will be back on top again.
Do you ever play games where it's somewhat integral to the gameplay? MG, baseball games, and so forth? Personally I think immersion is a great name for the people with the patent, because I find well-planned rumble to be an immersive experience. It sure sucks the batteries on the wireless though : /
I just bought a 56inch HDTV for like $1,200. I pay like $35/month for 3 years with no interest.
After all, Phil Harrison called rumble "last-gen" less than a week before the Immersion lawsuit was settled, he must have known that an agreement was imminent when he said that. You never know what Sony is up to, if they added this new rumble technology it would be awesome!
ugh rumble sucks the shit outa the battery i rather have longer battery life then to have rumble
Im honestly expecting the Sony hate to increase tenfold as the good news slowly starts to mount for the PS3 and its games list starts to pull even further away from the available quality Wii titles. The rabid wii only ppl will just start grasping at thin air to throw everything they have at Sony.
All i can apologize for is that i get to have fun with all 3 systems, including the PS3 and you are missing out on some good times.
Why is it that you can't seem to let go of being personally insulted any time someone says something negative or in their opinion regarding the PS3? It's not your kid, it's a game console made by an exceptionally sleazy and inept company. Also, if you DO really feel insulted, wouldn't you not want to say the same things back to those who enjoy the Wii? Nope, of course not, but that just shows what kind of poster you are. Regardless, the PS3 simply is not a good value right now. I love the "OMG IT'S A GC1.5 WITH A GIMMICK" remarks... you guys can keep living in DreamLand. I'll be enjoying my computer for an uber graphics "normal" gaming experience, and my Wii for a console-ish experience. My other favorite comment is about how anyone who is tired of having the same old things with their games is magically a brazen fool who is out of touch with reality, and obviously not a hardcore gamer. Again, keep living in DreamLand . I couldn't care less whether you like the PS3 or the Wii, I'm just stating my opinions, just as you are, yet you can't seem to refrain from insults and acting as though I'm a confused little creature whenever I speak.
Um, as opposed to the WiiMote, that has rumble and motion sensitivity spot-on?
I seriously hope you're joking with that comment. I can't quite tell.
Next-generation Vibration Technology
You’ve been enjoying rumble all these years, why do you need next-generation vibration? Because when you experience new TouchSense® technology, you’ll feel the even more exciting and subtle tactile effects that can add to the fun of playing the game. Next-generation vibration can be used to match the realism expected of next-generation high-definition graphics and high-fidelity sound.
More Fun
For example, in a next-gen off-road racing game, you would not only be able to see every detail of the terrain — gravel, rocks, sand, mud — you would also be able to feel how the vehicle’s response to these features transfers to the steering wheel — an experience more like driving in the real world. You might feel both the sharp pop of shifting gears, and at the same time, the force of acceleration or deceleration. If you were also firing a machine gun, you might feel both the vehicle movement and the weapon’s repeating action. Or you might experience the vehicle movement and feel that you are being fired upon (taking damage).

Immersion Unveils Next-Gen Rumble Technology, Gamepro.com, June 16, 2006
by Sid Shuman
“I personally experienced Immersion's new rumbling technology yesterday, and I have to say that it's a major, major step in the right direction. Not only are the rumbles stronger, they feel more detailed and crisp. A nearby explosion sends powerful shockwaves rippling through your hands; wielding a lightsaber produces a pleasant "humming" sensation; and machinegun fire feels downright violent. It's ten times better than the rumbling on the PS2 or Xbox 360.”
Immersion’s Magic Touch, Game Daily, June 19, 2006
by Chris Boffo
"But this single, next-generation motor is not only capable of spinning in multiple directions, it can stop on a dime and is generally much stronger than its predecessors. The result is a richer, more intense experience that will further immerse us in these upcoming games…. The difference between this technology and previous controllers is akin to making the jump from the original Resident Evil on PSOne to Resident Evil 4. It's just in stark contrast to what I've been used to.”
Rumble Into The Next-Generation, The Game Feed, July 27, 2006
by Hang Lauv
“You’re probably asking yourself, “How can rumble be any better?” Fortunately for us, Immersion has shown us how. They have convinced us next-generation rumble is real and ready today.. . . The realism and impressiveness created by Immersion’s new TouchSense technology is unlike anything you’ll ever feel. In fact, you have probably never even imagined how precise and advanced rumble can be.”
Does Rumble Matter?, Next Generation, August 23, 2006
by Kris Graft
“In short, yes, this is a definite improvement over today’s available rumble, and the consumer would be best served if TouchSense became a standard feature.”
Total Immersion — Will Sony ever be ready to rumble? (URL not available.) Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, September 2006
by Giancarlo Varanini
"With the next-gen consoles, Immersion has essentially completed new technology that offers greater versatility. In fact, there’s such a broad range of effects available that if gamers had the opportunity to feel what it would be like to have them in a next-gen game, there would be even greater demand for them to be included."
More Variety
Using three operating modes, the new technology can provide a greater range of effects. Three examples: (1) The stuttering jolts of firing an assault rifle, then the deadening click sensation produced from an empty chamber. (2) The initial accelerating surge of a light saber powering up, and when you swing, the pulse of the energy sweep. When you change direction, the smooth recoil and slight change in force that tells you you’re wielding a mighty weapon. (3) The springy sensation of hitting a tennis ball or the fast, crisp, connective feel of catching a long pass.
Greater Realism
Besides more variety, effects can be stronger, shorter in duration, crisper, more closely spaced, and more in sync with onscreen events. That means the feel of the game can be more realistic. The staccato of machine gun fire can more closely mimic a real weapon's action, and the feel can be better synchronized to the fire blasts you see on the screen.
New TouchSense technology will also support more varied in-game warnings like taking damage, entering a dangerous area, low ammo, or target warnings (like friendly target or missile lock). All these warnings could be made very distinguishable.
Wireless and Easy on Power
The new technology can be used in wireless controllers, and power consumption will not be greater than existing dual-motor systems. In fact, in many cases, power consumption will be less.
Dual-motor Game Compatible
The games you have now, which were designed for present-day dual-motor systems will feel very similar when played on a system with next-generation vibration. An Immersion emulator in the console or peripheral will handle this translation without you having to do anything.
**doing a crazy monkey dance** Wiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee are you haveing fun with your Wii yet? They should release Carmen Electra work-out videos with the Wii so you can flail your self in shape!
Like I pointed out, MS introduced this long time ago in there sidewinder series. The comment was made about it being innovative.
