Do your X-Fi Drivers work?

Updated my drivers to the current X-FI xtreme music drivers... on reboot it will disable the digital output. Tried reformatting thinking it might be the codecs I have installed, nope didn't work. It's easily fixed by switching the mode to Game and then back though...

I have this same glitch. I go to Entertainment Mode, Click on the setting for the Flexi Jack, just change it from SPDIF to MIC and back to SPDIF. It then kicks in. Mine never did this before my last two motherboard BIOS updates. This works with the Audio Console or the Entertainment Mode GUI thingy. You don't have to reboot.

Mine DO NOT WORK. My XFi didn't work on my nforce4 and when i went back to my old audigy platinum, it didnt work with my wireless card enabled. I had to install kx drivers for it to work properly. Products that have a don't work even 2% of the time are FAULTY.

I tried the Asus A8N SLI Deluxe and just thought it suxers before I even installed X-Fi. I went back to my Asus A8N SLI and the card worked fine. Now speaking of bad drivers and what works, install ALL of the nVidia software then tell us how well it works?

That's not an excuse for Creative or any company but to single them out because it doesn't work with a Certain line of Chipsets isn't really fair. Which shipped first Guys, X-Fi or 32X nVidia chipsets? Link with Dates?

I say this because any X-Fi and GA 965P DS3 user can tell you BIOS flashes can affect X-Fi, IDE and SATA controllers and even my NIC. On my Asus A8N, it took 3 to get X-Fi to work and a 4th to get it and the ATI video card to work together. Once they did work though, I never had anymore problems. In fact, that Digital SPDIF glitch wasn't there.

Before others say it was just the Asus Boards, X-Fi worked better on older 16X SLI. I, yes, just ME saw folks complain more after the 32X boards shipped.

go into your bios and disable anything that you dont use, like serial port, firewire ports parallel ports, if your mobo has 2 nics and you only use one, then disable the other one etc etc, tht will free up irq's and will hopefully make them change so that you can get them both working together without any probs.

sometimes you may have to enable all and then disable them in a certain order to get the best setting, so just disable 1 at a time and then reboot and see if they have changed irq's, if they havent disable another etc etc.

thats the way I solved my problem with sli and my old audigy 2zs and it worked :D

Good advice!

Try to disable those un-needed devices before you start you fresh install. If you disable them after an install, look for their drivers. If you find any, clean them, get rid of them. Do Wi-Fi and that Second NIC AFTER a clean install. In fact that might help with ANY Hardware sound card. I had to do this with my Aureal SQ-2500 long before there was an Audigy of any kind.

Mine's been working fine ever since I started using YouP-Pax drivers in my C2D system. Creative's kept causing repeating sound locks playing BF or CS:S.

No biggie, I forgot the the ";)" to so my bad!

I have mine pre-adjusted for Game mode. It's set lower than for Entertainment Mode louder on the Bass redirection setting. Another reason I don't just use the same mode. I found myself using either a small amount of EQ in the E-Mode and NONE in games. You should get a 15% Bass Boost and it is adjustable. Anytime I used it, I still had the Sub about at 65% volume. BUT my Toshiba Set top through my Technics is the same, go figure?

pic.php
[/IMG]

If I boost this the full 15% I can not run my Sub louder than 5 for Bass Heavy music. There's a setting for a 12% boost in Game mode.

i'm not at home so i can not check.. but i do not believe i have the second slider thats labeled subwoofer level.. But if i do, its at 100%. WHen i click the sub in the THX guy/picture test location, the sub works perfect and it is nice and powerful. However, when watching dvd's or playing games, its not really noticable..

Now I'm "convinced" that creative's driver is good, the fault lies at other companies. :D

It doesn't appear unless the first Bass Redirection Box is selected. To get a lot of Bass from the Audigy 2 ZS was harder. This time, Creative added 12% and 15% boosts respectively for Game and Entertainment modes. Select all "Small Speakers" as well.

LOL! Nothing to do with you, but I know guy who had his Card setup perfectly and was still having low bass volume. Problem was he forgot his Receiver was set to Large Speakers and was filtering out his Sub from there.:p Once this was corrected, his little 12" Dayton lit the place up. Now that and a 22" wide screen are moved up on my Upgrade path. At only 150 Watts, it's better than my current 10 and will not shake stuff apart like my old 15"-er LOL!

AFAIK, the test will work as long as the Woofer is connected correctly. It's not really a pure Volume test.

QFT. :p I'm calling creative tech support right now. I don't think it will be help but it will be nice to gripe at them for awhile.

@the OP question

I have had absolutely no problems with the driver for my X-Fi Platinum.

I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 and I use only the latest web driver package from Creative's Website. It is of note that I don't use any of the multimedia apps such as the Entertainment Center or DVD-Audio player. For this I use WinDVD 5 and Winamp 5. I have no particular need for the remote, but I enjoy having the headphone jack and volume controls up front for switching to and from my speakers to headset.

Nope, not really! Nothing like downgrading from an Audigy Platinum eX to an X-Fi XtremeMusic!

I just added a I/O Drive to my Extreme Music, liking it so far. The remote is almost useless but I like the Mike and Headphone connection on the front and that they WORK as advertised.

After seeing your post I had a bud come over to see a Demo. I ran WinAMP and CMS at the same time and both were very Clear. I ran UT#1 and it worked though a distraction. I've only had the I/O Drive a week and I'm already wondering how did I make it without it.

I have EVERYTHING installed and did it as a Demo, one day I'll get around to removing it. Doesn't seem to bother my setup at all. I still like the Newest WinAMP the best=P But I do like the DVD Audio Player. Luckily it can be installed straight from the Disc separately without the whole She-Bang.

Please Note, I have 24/96 5.1 RAW Wave files that don't respond to many players.

FWIW, other than me having to flip on/off digital output after I bootup... my X-Fi is running fine in XP64.

I'm running x64 and I don't even have that problem. Only the flaky ASIO driver is giving me some issues.

Components in the sig. Mine work fine with XPpro. When I had MCE installed the MCE drivers werent worth a crap but they work fine in pro.

Yes, but you could give links to here as well? Let's see, you got a X-Fi, didn't you sign this petition? Yup, that digital setting glitch is a monster problem alright LOL!:p

I never said it is a monster problem but I'll never ever think the driver is good :D

I can confirm that beta bios 702 fixed the Asus p5n32-e motherboard SCP issues.

IMHO, Jim White was right about who was complaining. So those FEW PLATFORMS that are having this continued problem is hardly Creative's Fault. But what does FACTS have to do with anything;) No, I don't mean EVERY nVidia chipset made as I pointed out to you already. Even as you keep ignoring info posted to you.

EMail.

Thanks Donnie27

I had been rebooting to get the Ditigtal setting to enble. Thanks for pointing that all I had to do was switch it to MIC and back.:) Also, the tip about Installing the DVD Audio player without the other stuff is great, I was told that it couldn't be done. I now have 8 Discs and counting.

donny thanks for your help. setting my front speakers as small in the THX settings made a world of a difference. i also upped the sub on my receiver, so thats better now.. however, it sucks switching my sub level all the time just for this creative :(

"any driver that works is good"? I think most of us have higher expectations with regards to our hardware and the software used to control it. Did you review that petition? IT is not totally bad when viewed in your light but it has problems and alot of people want the issues fixed.

Most of the time the problem exist on a nVidia system because majority of X-Fi's users also use a nVidia system but the problem does exist on other platform as well, you can't deny this(second last post). Creative's cards not only have the SCP problem but also other problems as well. Btw I just want to thank nVidia for helping users to clean up Creative's $h1t because Creative doesn't want to take the responsibilty themselves :D .

Edit: Like you said before, I'm an AMD's f@nb0y, since ATi is now AMD so I declare myself anti-nVidia, *must hate nVidia, must hate nVidia*, lol.

You're very welcomed! Glad I could help:)

Yes, it can be tedious changing those settings a lot. That's what I meant on the other thread about that auto switching app. Some user profiles with presets would be great to go along with those modes. Yet, control freaks like many of the Linux user friends of mine like having control, I'd love options to go "Easy" or "Advanced". I think the Advanced settings are covered, now for the Easy or Quick settings.

I have been using an X-Fi Fatal1ty card now for almost a year in my gaming rig. Yesterday, I finally decided to put back in my old, trusty Audigy 2 ZS after having used the X-Fi in over 4 different boards and 3 different chipsets. Throughout that time, I was never able to fully resolve the SCP issues that occurred in games, such as BF2 and BF2142.

I also have not be able to confirm whether or not it was the drivers or simply a poorly designed board that made for such a dismal experience, but after almost a year of issues and several mobos/chipsets later, I have had enough.

I was doing a full system reformat anyways, so since I wanted to have a nice, clean slate for new video card drivers as well, I thought what a good time to put back in my old Audigy card and see how it sounds versus the X-Fi.

To be honest, I am relieved that I put the Audigy 2 ZS back in my system. I was never able to set the X-Fi to Ultra Quality anyways, so the Audigy @ 64 channels sounds just like the X-Fi on high mode, or w/ 64 channels. And the most important thing??!! I haven't heard 1 SNP in either BF game or media related apps. Look for my X-Fi on eBay anytime now...

Why? My expectations are that I install the drivers and they control my Hardware as intended. That means they work and therefore are good. They are not Bad as ROBSCIX and Alg7 are trying to say. Again, I would have some sympathy these two if they had other great drivers on their systems. Please install ALL OF THE NVIDIA drivers and then PLEASE tell me how well they work? Alg7 has DODGED that many times.

I read the petition and just didn't a agree=P See above? Please link me to a similar Petition for nVidia and VIA? I was part of the other partition when Creative Labs Lied about 24-bit96 KHz because I bought the card to try out 24 bit- 96KHz recording. That was worth suing them over IMHO. There was an Across-The-Board LIE with a large L. This one seems Bogus when compared to it. What are Double standards so acceptable?

This guy says it best;

If you CAREFULLY read the stuff on the Sound Blaster forums, especially about SCP on the X-FI's, you'll realise that your reading drivle from pimple-faced teen and sub-teen morons who are running "game" machines built on a highschool-budget with inadequate powersupplies, extremely over-clocked CPU's and a total lack of understanding when it comes to PCI slots and IRQ sharing.... did you forget about on-board devices on the PCI bus?? FWIW, my X-FI Elite Pro simply WORKS, it has NEVER given me any serious problems in two different Intel based motherboards.

Google "AthlonXP doesn't support APIC", for an example?

The rig in your sig or another one?

Rig number 2 in my Computer Room;
Antec True Power 2 550W PSU
Sunflower Mid ATX Case 461
Asus A8N SLI 2 X 8x or one 16X version.
Athlon64 3500+ (E)

Creative Audigy 2 ZS
ATI X800XL 256MB
AVer Media TV Card with Capture
320GB Seagate HDD with IDE2SATA adapter
LiteOn DVD and CD-R Burners

Main parts with WindowsXP Home SP2. I can do A-B comparisons because both are connected to my Pioneer VSX-D711 receiver. The ZS is not bad but it is no X-Fi with BF2. It can give it a run for the money with HL2 and even Call Of Duty 2 though. I kind of hate to admit it but the real differnce is BASS, and MORE BASS. NOT just the BOOM but the Bump and wump and BOOBT or more kinds of Boom. It is hard to put into words. Yes, it is a Bee-yotch switch the analog wires;)

You can be whatever you like;) With the Absolute large numbers of cards shipped, there are bound to be some problems. I don't know alg7, it seems kind of stupid to waste your time hating any of these large faceless companies. One guy said about 6 mil of these cards shipped. Even if that's 1 mil shipped, two thousand disgruntled users equals what?
I love it if my nVidia motherboard software worked:)

Equals to low QC, low quality product and bad drivers :D . All companies have problems with their products but not all companies deny the problems and blame others for their incompetency. Btw nVidia's drivers are also bad but they always try to fix it, they are not blaming other companies because they know they did a mistake and they have the gut to face it. Their graphic drivers version 91.xx are really bad but they fix the issues in the latest version, they never said "the problem is WindowsXP because most users have the problem when they use WindowsXP, WindowXP is a weak OS" lol. It is sad enough when Creative said the problems are not their problems ada did nothing to fix them but the saddest thing is when a user thinks that the problems are not Creative's problems and he is trying to convince others to think the same way. I have the way you and Creative deny the problems are Creative's problems and said that the problems are caused by other companies like nVidia, this guy here uses an Intel platform but he also has the problem. If Creative won't do anything to fix the problems, who should fix them? Thankfully nVidia takes the responsibility to help users clean Creative's $hit.

If that's the way you look at this Industry, then you absolutely don't get it=P Let's see, making excuses for nVidia's mobo drivers that are totally Boinked but drilling Creative Labs for minor problems? Dewd, that shows you for the Biased Fanb0y that you are.;) How many of these platforms having the most problems came after X-Fi? Sorry, you're not making any sense at all.

If you were paying attention, I've posted that WinXP is a very good OS. It, Direct X's Direct Sound and Creative's drivers have come a long way.

I don't have to try and convince anyone, they have X-Fi, they have working drivers that are NOT bad as you say. Have you been reading the replies or as soon as you realize its positive you skip it? You seem to be desperately trying to convince folks their working drivers are bad. How lame is that?

Now sure XMeridian would have fewer problems, it has far less Hardware to need drivers for to start with. Speaking of sales pitches LOL!? I'm NOT talking about Graphic Drivers, I'm talking about still not fixed motherboard software as I said. Don't try to changed the subject and dodge another question as you've always done. Let's just be fair and hold ALL HW makers as accountable? Oh, wait that's too easy uh?

If I try 20 motherboards and a Device has problems with one that came AFTER said device, I'm blaming that motherboard. Just as anyone who dealt with Hardware would. Since you seem to be practicing selective reading ALL nForce 4 are NOT have problems with Creative X-fi Drivers. Some boards from the same line but but made by different companies have been fixed with BIOS flashes. What's Creative supposed to do, LIE on themselves?

Again you are saying the problem only exists with one(1, eins, uno, yi, satu) platform that came after X-Fi but users on other platforms(not only on nVidia's platform) are also having the exact same problem and again you are saying that the problem is not a Creative's problem. You can close your eyes to the people who are having the problem on other platforms if you want to but that wouldn't change the fact that the problem is not a platform-specific problem but more towards card-specific problem. I know that not all people have the problem but a lot of people are having the problem so I think that something must be wrong. If Creative can't make their so called "hardware acceleration" works correctly without a significant number of failure, they should just skip the "hardware acceleration".

I'm saying that MOST, NOT ALL the problems exists on that platform. I already posted that the large number of cards sold, there are bound to be problems. Look at what the X-Fi users who are posting here? It's not 100% good for Creative but what *large company has PERFECT drivers, get real:D The drivers work and are a long way from being Bad as you portray them.;) I even said folks with other platforms are having far fewer problems. I didn't fackin' say they're having NO problems.

Ditto. Everything works for me. I have never had one problem with mine. Also on a NF4 board.

LiteOn DVD and CD-R Burners

Repeat. Not just for you but folks reading the thread;

My X-Fi was installed and worked without any problems at all on the above system. Took 4 BIOS flashes but that was known before I bought it. It worked in SLI mode with two 7900s. I've gotten emails from buds with the same Asus A8N 32X SLI that I had problems with. They said their boards worked but they saw others that didn't. I'm NOT saying all nForce boards are weak but clearly some ARE! Folks with Intel boards have had fewer problems. I never said they are NOT having problems and are perfect.

I'm saying that MOST, NOT ALL the problems exists on that platform.

Because MOST, NOT ALL X-Fi-users use that platform. Let say 100 X-Fi-users use nVidia platform and 10 X-Fi-users use other platform, if 10% from X-Fi have the problem, 10 X-Fi-users with nVidia's platform will have the problem and only a single person on other platform will have the same problem. I don't see this is a platform-specific problem but more towards card-specific. Creative is denying this problem is their problem and it looks like you are denying it as well. Instead of denying and blaming other companies I think that it is better if they admit it and help users to find a solution like making a new driver, offering RMA and etc. The real problem is not the problem itself but the real problem is Creative is denying that the problem is their problem and they did nothing to help users to find a solution.

Then you're just being a blind and just slept through the C2D launch too LOL! Even your buddy ROBSCIX got more sense than that. Or are you some kind a noob!?

I'm not Creative Labs and I'm NOT denying anything except that these are bad drivers as you say. At first, I just thought maybe you're mistaken, now I think you're just clueless:D Please go back through this thread and count the users who say they're NOT having any problems besides switching on Digital? Let's see, your drivers work but you say they're bad? But you're OK with Drivers that don't work, how Lame is that?
