Do your X-Fi Drivers work?

I haven't had any problems with drivers in the Elite Pro. The only thing negative I've noticed notice is that in one game I've played, Flatout 2, enabling 3D hardware sound will result in some things making an unnatural metallic sound, i.e. debris falling on the road. Thus I leave it off.

What are your Game setting in the Audio Console's Game Mode? I had some terrible sound with Crystallizer and CMSS 3D running at the same time. Sounded like the down cycle of a "Phase Shifter".

I saw this when others didn't have enough of the Driver package installed.

It would be GREAT if Creative opened up their Drivers and let folks work with them. Look at the Omega Video Card drivers for example, nothing new here.

mine works, but i just wish they had more bass.. my sub never turns on when using the stupid card..

Installed fine on my Opteron 165/LANParty UT nF4 Ultra-D rig. And that's with my Chaintech AV710 installed simultaneously and a relatively dirty Windows install - this install used to have my onboard sound setup, as well. So it's the third soundcard in this system, and everything went swimmingly.

I can't speak to digital out or surround sound, since I only use 2.1/headphones, but CMSS-3D, EAX, etc. all work fine. Haven't had any crackling "under load" - and since I run two instances of F@H, my CPU is constantly at 100%, and CoD2 damn near maxes out my graphics, so...

My only complaint is that the interface is really cheesy, especially in Gaming mode.

edit - this is a base XtremeGamer.

Damn we even have the same overclock! Hmm, this makes me want to try the xtrememusic again..

Doesn't even start for me, perhaps it's an issue with x64 issue.

I tested it. Got it to start, setup the presets and it changed modes. I really don't know why he (the app's maker) is like saying, "Take that Creative Labs" and etc.... This is nothing but a mode switcher just like one of the others that was out months ago. The glitch I got is that it stopped WMP 11 from playing. Creative Wave editing apps also doesn't like it. Oh well, away it goes to the trash heap.

If I'm someone worried about Creative's Bloatware, as most folks are, then the Audio Control Panel and THX Console will do find. I think I've gotten to use to switching modes anyway. It wouldn't hurt Creative to do something like this themselves.

HOW TO INSTALL ?

First, make sure you have X-Fi drivers installed before you install and use X-Fi Titanium Software package.

Install X-Fi drivers and don't forget about Creative Audio Console which is a cool panel to tweak X-Fi. And best of all it's NOT bloated and slow! Yey! Now it's time to install X-Fi Titanium Software package. Run the installer and select few extra options like desktop icon for X-Fi Mode Changer. This is it. Makes me wonder why the hell Creative is still insisting so much on their incredibly stupid compiled installer thats cross referenced like 10 times with each app, just asking for bloat and conflicts.

I just installed this for the hell of it and I don't notice anything different other that the little switcher (which I already had right?)

What does this thing do? I'm dense today.

You right click the little Green Switcher ICON in the Systray. It gives you the option to add apps in the 3 Mode Categories. Just click "Add", go to where you have Games, Players and Recorders installed, select them and you're set.

Example. You want Battlefield 2 to switch from whatever mode you're using so you don't get the "Hardware is not Compatible" pop up. You go to the app, right click the Icon, select Options--Presets and click the Add Box. GO to the Game folder and find the Executables (normally the Icon that looks just like you Shortcut Icon. Click OK and it moves a copy to the App, If you're Entertainment mode, now when you click the Short or however you startup the game, it will or should automatically switch to Game mode. You can also set it to switch back to whatever you set as a Default Mode.

Hmmm. I've had it set on game mode since I bought it.
Everything has worked fine.

Uninstalling 'titanium' junk...

P.S. My little switcher was blue and I've never had a "Hardware not compatible" pop-up.

Don't know why, mine was Green but it did change colors as it changed modes. You have to select Pop Ups in the Options box.

I game, listen to some music and even record some. Can't stay in one mode too long but that depends. IMHO, each type of media sounds better in its intended or appropriate mode.

I game A LOT, encode movies, use audacity to encode mp3's and watch movies/TV.

Game mode always worked fine and it was a complete change when I started sing this and stopped using onboard audio.

When I had my XFI in my computer, the drivers worked. the ASio drivers bugged me some times when I was composing. Other then that i didnt really have major driver problem they couldnt be fixed.

Try it before you just dismiss what I'm saying? It doesn't really matter for MP3's.

I know of at least one other person who's not happy with ASIO. Mine have worked nicely in Creation Mode. Hell, even in Entertainment mode with only the Media Source Player, there, I made 24bit/96KHz Stereo and MultiTrack 5.1 recordings. The one person I know was having problem with Creative Wave Studio.

I'm not dismissing your comment. I'm just saying that it's not for me.
After installing the card I selected Game Mode and I've never switched it and all has been good.

No, sorry, I didn't mean you where dis-in' me, just what I was saying. Try playing back and recording music in either Entertainment or Creative Mode, play with a bunch of settings and see if you hear any differnces?

My Music Playback sound quality in Game Mode, no matter what Changes I make, is low quality. I turn OFF all of the Creative features like CMSS 3D, Crystalizer and EAX for Music. Try it and if it doesn't make a difference, Pretend I didn't post this to ya', please?

The Test:

Dave Matthews Band - Satellite 192kbit
  • Game Mode
  • Audio Creation Mode
  • Entertainment Mode

Settings:
  • 5.1 Speakers (Logitech Z5300) and Headphones (Sennheiser HD280 Pro)
  • With or without CMSS-3D (Stereo Expand)
  • Crysalizer Off (It does help with low bitrate mp3's though)
  • EQ Off (always off)
  • EAX On but 0.0dB (environment set to none...only makes a difference in games)

All sound the same...great.
Maybe if it was lossless I'd tell a difference? My gf didn't notice a difference either.

However you're saying yours basically sounds bad in certain situations. I can't replicate your situation.

I agree, for some reason Game Mode just doesn't sound as clean as bit-matched playback in Audio Creation mode.

Yeah, One thing that is different is that you guys are using the digital out.

Maybe that's the issue?

I was planning on getting the Z5500's a while ago but didn't think it would be worth the upgrade.

I don't really mean bad, just not as good;) Yes, most of my Music Playback is via SPDIF. But even when it wasn't, I could tell the difference between Game and Entertainment modes.

I think even my Mid-Fi receiver can pickup the differences more. I really like Clean settings and none of the effects for Music. Now I will add just of touch of reverb for some of my Live track. But that's not that often.

My EAX setting is on and at 12db, some games I run at only 6db though.

You got it! A bud had some nice Studio Mixes, too bad I'm not a big Jazz Fan. I do like some though. Very nice stuff. He heard my system and was like, WOW, you paid what? I do have my eye on a Dayton Sub:)

Mine work fine and i have an NF4 motherboard. Never had a single issue with X -Fi drivers, though Audigy drivers are awful, i used kX when I had an audigy 2.

Mine seem to work fine, although the front panel "Mic In 2/Input 2" doesn't work, but I'm not sure if that's a hardware or driver issue. Either way it makes the front bay completely useless, mic/headphone front input option is the only reason I bought a platinum version.

Then you should get the b@st@rds to pay me. Did you see my comments on the X-Fi Xtreme Audio?

hey donnie.. no worries dude, just buggin u.. :)

i have an x-Fi extreme music, the only complaint i have is that there is not enough bass. My sub barely gets used. i've connected the card via 3mini to rca cables to my 5.1 home theater. I've tried all the setting, upping sub woofer gain and everything, still nothing. Movies have no life on my computer when compared to a stand alone dvd player or my xbox 360.

If you have any ideas, that would be wonderful :)

You messed around with those settings? I use 5.1 analog to my receiver and I get more than enough bass in games. Perhaps it's not connected right to your receiver?

yea man, i have that.. the thing, you may have your sub on a higher level then mine; however, i am not able to do that because then when playing xbox or watching movies, my house will fall apart.

with other sound cards, the bass is good.

just a note, when i go to the THX setting and test the bass, its good.. so i dunno :(

No biggie, I forgot the the ";)" to so my bad!

I have mine pre-adjusted for Game mode. It's set lower than for Entertainment Mode louder on the Bass redirection setting. Another reason I don't just use the same mode. I found myself using either a small amount of EQ in the E-Mode and NONE in games. You should get a 15% Bass Boost and it is adjustable. Anytime I used it, I still had the Sub about at 65% volume. BUT my Toshiba Set top through my Technics is the same, go figure?

If I boost this the full 15% I can not run my Sub louder than 5 for Bass Heavy music. There's a setting for a 12% boost in Game mode.

Mine DO NOT WORK. My XFi didn't work on my nforce4 and when i went back to my old audigy platinum, it didnt work with my wireless card enabled. I had to install kx drivers for it to work properly. Products that have a don't work even 2% of the time are FAULTY.

Updated my drivers to the current X-FI xtreme music drivers... on reboot it will disable the digital output. Tried reformatting thinking it might be the codecs I have installed, nope didn't work. It's easily fixed by switching the mode to Game and then back though...

Ok, mine work as good as any other sound card drivers have worked for me, but and i will say this, I am awaiting for a new mobo to be delivered so that I can format and install and start using that new mobo, my windows is in a shit state at the moment and their is no point in formatting til I get the new mobo which I should get this week, but at times when I boot up the sound will be high pitched and the bass will be crackly if I can get any bass at all that is.

I suspect its only cuz something bad happened to windows and normally I would format and start over but I have to wait til i get the new board first, so getting back to the original question, creative drivers are shite, but they do work but are extremely fragile to any bad happenings to windows.
I have been using their drivers for just over 1 year for the XFI and they are better than the audigy 2zs drivers I had before that, but for the last month they have been shitting all over me mainly due to windows being fuked up at my end. They worked flawlessly for me for about 12 months up until roughly about 1 month ago when something happened to windows and started killing all my other programs, so for 12 good working months and 1 bad month, to me they ok but need a good maintained OS to keep them working properly.

Mine work mostly fine on my Nforce 4 board, cant use sli and the x-fi though, windows keeps putting one of the video cards and the sound card or both video cards on the same IRQ and the computer just crashes.

go into your bios and disable anything that you dont use, like serial port, firewire ports parallel ports, if your mobo has 2 nics and you only use one, then disable the other one etc etc, tht will free up irq's and will hopefully make them change so that you can get them both working together without any probs.

sometimes you may have to enable all and then disable them in a certain order to get the best setting, so just disable 1 at a time and then reboot and see if they have changed irq's, if they havent disable another etc etc.

thats the way I solved my problem with sli and my old audigy 2zs and it worked :D
