well my server is BEEFCAKE b/c it is fat and heavy

my desktop is HalfPint b/c it is a shuttle

laptop is naleron no reason

my ipod is DIONYSUS for it is God of Sex, Wine and Intoxication

my HTPC is Antec can u guess y?

 
You're kinda forced to name your machines if you're on a network...one is 10.7.1.13, another is 10.7.1.11 ....

I kid, I kid. My P-II 266 Thinkpad is named "goodolreliable" because it lasted almost four years on one install of Win2k before I had to reformat it.

 
My system is server# (ie. server1, server2).

I remember em no prob, though this dont mean they're all servers :p
 
One of my first 9-5 jobs was building a new staff network for a small town library. I named the 5 workstations Frank, Dean, Sammy, Joey & Peter after the Rat Pack entertainers from the 50s. The Dean Martin workstation later lost a fan one weekend and burnt up. Go figure.

A very good friend of mine has named his servers after pizza chains. papajohn the ftp server.

Yeah, I name the comps. It's usually something to do with a physical characteristic.

The main gaming computer has always been "Colossus", with a number that denotes the revision. Why "Colossus"? Think Inwin Q500 sized full tower server case... :D
 
I think my current computer name for my home machine is something like joe mamma. it's been a while since I installed xp. work machine is based on my name.
 
I name my computers at home.

My main machine is Durandal.
My HTPC is Tycho.
My laptop is Leela.
And my wireless network is called Marathon.

Anyone here that knows what all that is gets a cookie. ;)

2x opteron 246 is called dualdrophenia (two processors, fav album ever is quadrophenia)
pentium M laptop is called ///M (the bmw M series)
athlon xp 1700+ is called winbox (only compy i own with windows on it)

i used to just name em random names, b0x, rig, server mom dad etc...

well recently i changed my naming scheme, and i like it and will stick with it, simpsons names.....bart, lisa, marge, homer, etc....

elavent names, like my file server is apu (he has everything u need in the kwickie mart)
my mp3 server, over 200+gigs of it, is named stu (disco stu, he knows his tunes)
my main rig is bart, cuz my chip is a barton, and im kinda like bart in days past :)
moms pc is marge, dads is homer, sisters is lisa...you get the idea...

otto, krusty, dr hibbert, etc :) still lookin for new boxen to build....of course, my laptop is named laptop...how lame
 
Mine are all named after stars or planets, with a name fitting to their characteristics.
 
I name them for networking's sake. At first I went with girl names - Aurora, Alison, Katie, etc. but then I got lazy. Now I have...

Opteron 165: "Opterown"
Shuttle with a 2500+: "Shuttle"
2200+, a hybrid between aforementioned Aurora and Alison, is named "Leslie"
My laptop is named "Lola"

I've been meaning to come up with girl names for Opterown and Shuttle, but I'm having a hard time finding ones I like. :) It makes it difficult since I avoid picking names of girls I know, since that would just be awkward. Although my girlfriend's name is Katie, that rig was named a couple years before we started dating.
 
I name my systems but I have no scheme I go by. Sometimes I use a characteristic or use of the box. PIII 600 is Slow, dually PII 266 was Server since that's what it was going to be. I got a PIII 800 and mobo from Penguin and if the mobo was working I would have named it PenguinComp last night.

I'll probably come up with some type of naming scheme/theme one of these days when I find that I actually need it.

 
My main rig is 'lazarus', because at one point it stopped working completely and then started again :p My file server is just 'fs', though. I haven't found any really good biblical names for it, so I just left it. Any people with two heads in the bible maybe?

 
I name all my boxes after brands of beer or names of drinks like jackncoke etc. Um no I dont have a drinking problem. :p

I name mine after favorite songs or music terminology

i.e. my main rig is "Superterrorizer" (a favorite song of mine)
file server is named "Harmonic"
sandbox is named "Melodic"

I name my computers different things. All my systems at home are named for drug paraphenalia (bong, joint, etc.)....exactly why, I dont know, as I'm not a drug user, but I digress.

My systems I take with me when I got back and forth between school and home I name after comic book characters, normally X-Men (Colossus, Juggernaut, and my iPod is Cyclops, because the click wheel looks like an eye...haha).
