DLSS 5.0

This kind of reminds me back when DOOM 3 graphics came out. It was sort of revolutionary and a lot of people liked the graphics then you had the haters where they said everything looked wet and shiny. I’m not really sure why people are surprised that AI “slop” is becoming more abundant as that’s what’s going on in the world right now. You’re not going to stop it whether you like it or not. I for one will give the new DLSS a try because from what I’ve seen it looks pretty good for the most part.

I feel like I remember that differently.

I remember it the same way, but as I mentioned some people liked it and some scrutinized it just like they are doing now with DLSS. That was my point.
I still feel you're remembering it differently that me.

One changes things for the better, the other is anti-competitive and solidifies their stranglehold further if it takes root.

My main point to get back on topic is some people will like DLSS and some won’t. I brought DOOM 3 up just as a major change/upgrade in graphics. Not trying to debate on memory..😁

And also, if you don’t like it, don’t use it..

Kinda like the current DLSS
I mean in many cases that's like saying, "Don't like it? Don't play PC games because you can't get decent performance without DLSS." It's being shoved into everything as basically the only solution to sub-par performance.

Sure it is, play the 1000’s of games that work fine without diss, stay away from games that requires dlss to run at sub-par performance, that’s how I do it.. ohh and we always had games that runs poorly, now we at least have a choice..

I know they technically say it's not painting over the image, but the output absolutely feels that way. Especially in motion when the face turns in the example below. It feels very flat like it's painted on, and you can see that it's not flat when it's off. The end result in its current state feels exactly how social media filters work in terms of the final product.

In its current form it looks like crap, pHoToReAlIsTiC crap, but still crap.

I think what I hate the most, is the snake oil being sold to fix the problems they created with all of this AI nonsense to begin with. Over and over and over. They screw one thing up, and then they release something to Band-Aid it, and then they do it again and again. Most of the gaming industry is bankrupt of any skill and ideas at this point.

Keep a close eye on the top games rolling out on Steam in terms of sales counts, player counts, etc.

The lighting also just looks wrong

It's funny they tried to use DLSS's relatively good reputation to sell this new lighting tech, but just ended up turning DLSS into a joke worse than the "RTX On/Off" memes from when Turing launched. Maybe this will motivate them to detach this effect from DLSS and name it something different like they should have done in the first place since this tech has nothing to do with image scaling or super sampling. It should just be called RTX Lighting or something so people can meme on that instead.

I have my doubts on this.

I think a lot of people would turn it on and see how their games looked. If they look better, they'll leave it on. If not, they won't. It's literally just a setting.

I personally hate it since it makes games look like AI slop. If it is a option then what ever. They should of made it a separate feature to DLSS but Nvidia is tone deft to the hate that AI brings.

Right, I'm not sure why they decided to brand this as a new and improved version of DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) when this could have easily just been another one of those "RTX ____" features since we already have features that use such naming like RTX Remix, RTX HDR, etc. Even Frame Generation should not have been given the DLSS branding since it has nothing to do with upscaling, could have just been called RTX FG instead of DLSS FG.

I want shit like DLSS 5 for old games. I loved Morrowind back in the day. Now by modern standards it looks like shit. Same with KOTOR 1 & 2. Old ass awesome games that look like crap by modern standards. I'll be down with DLSS 5 if it can make my 20+yo favorites look ok by modern standards. Oh, and UT '99.

I'd be down for that too.

Then if NV's AI shit is really, really good... Star Control 2. VGA DOS game from the early 1990s, though there are modern ports that'll run on current systems including native builds for 64-bit Linux. 320x200 maybe? Last time I tried it was on a 64-bit Linux machine and it ran in a tiny little window. Make that look good at 4k.

I really like the mods where they upscale the original textures using ai. Make old games sharper, like Max Payne, without ruining the look of the game.
