Strange that there's no taunt. But the benefits of a 1h and shield seem obvious to me. More tanky and don't need as much strength so you can spend more in other stats. A taunt would be nice though

yeah but with turn based games, i'll just take a defensive round and heal up. Or invest time in making my own potions.

    My party consists of

    2 fighters
    a lightning/water mage
    and a fire/earth/witchcraft mage

I want to swap out a fighter for a ranger, but when I go to purchase one, they are so under leveled I call it off. They should auto level purchased companions to something like 1-2 levels below the main characters so you are not left behind.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I assumed they would be auto-leveled because companions are. So now i know to get them earlier rather than later.

With no way to grind experience (i'm assuming, since no respawns so far), i wonder what they expect you to do.

Can't you just dismiss them then rehire them? I heard that autolevels them, but I'm not entirely sure.

How far into the game can you respec? Does it let you respec 100% of a character? So I can make my fighter a wizard if i wanted to at that point?

I wish you could dual wield in this game, it wouldn't be so bad if you could just one-hand a sword with a buckler and go offensive, but I am not sure if the game supports that..

Can someone tell me if it does?

Or is it the usual design of "bucklers = crap starting item" and "big gigantic tower shield = the best?"

Would love to see a game treat them fairly, give bucklers the advantage in melee combat (like they had in real life) and a more offensive utility compared to the big shields.

I just asked on larians forums and apparently dismissing them and readding them auto relevels them, though there are reports that stats are not as high as the first 2 companions. I'll see later on.

haven't had the time to play in a while but I seem to remember there being a stat that makes you more threatening or higher chance to be attacked... maybe I'm mistaken, not a direct 100% taunt though

while testing the game to see if rebuilding and cleaning my pc would help stability, i looted a nifty book out of a barrel.

It decreased Intellect by 1 and increased Perception by 1! Cool!
    And then it crashed ><

    Awww!!!

Picked the game up on a whim and really, really enjoying it. It's like Trine with much better graphics, more dialog, great puzzles/more item interactions, and party-based turn combat. Definitely recommend.

Looks fantastic at 4k and runs smoothly there with a single 290x.

It refunded everything when I tried it (quick saved before) - and you unlearn things that you had already learned because you don't have enough skill to retain it. So yes, you can dump all your points into a completely different class. Relearning stuff probably isn't a big deal since so many vendors have a ton of skill books, but it can be pretty expensive.

Doh, that means I won't do a respec. I only wasted a few points so I'll just have to live with the build. I haven't played in a while but moving about 3 points in skills I don't use isn't worth the cost of buying the skill books to re-learn all the spells I already know. I guess this also means if I "forget" a skill I'll have to rebuy that skill book if I need it again. I never actually tried to forget one but I found one that isn't so useful and was thinking about buying a different one.

I finally took the time to get into the game, loving it...but I kinda messed up and didn't save the game until after...

I killed the adopted librarian (she didn't like me accidentally clicking the drawers too many times)

Are there any trainers out yet?

I know it's stupid, but sometimes I get really ocd about shit. I savescummed for awhile last night near the barrels where i found that nifty book i referenced above, hoping to get it again.

Never did so I alt-f4'd and went to bed.

I really wish they randomized loot based on a seed created at the beginning of a game so that these situations don't happen. If you get a nifty item and then die, and have to load, that same monster or chest should have the same nifty item in it.

On the bright side, i think my pc is stable again woo

They didn't seed it only because none of the Divinity games have had seeding. I think they should have used a little more handplaced loot than they put in, but kept the random loot aspect as well. As of now, not a ton of items are handplaced.

Agreed. It's like they took the best parts of Dialbo, Baldurs Gate, Ultima 7\8, Trine and Divine Divinity, and added great graphics. My game of the year by far already.

    I'll translate his meaning:

    clicking = axe swings
the drawers = the librarians head

If you are an RPG fan you owe it to yourself to get this game. It doesn't have the world atmosphere Baldurs Gate or Planescape has, but I think the turn base combat puts those two to shame. The sound, voice, and music are VERY good which they could have skimped on but didn't. Level loads are a little long, even with an SSD, would like to see them hasten that. Some balancing issues but already being addressed, with a recent whopping 800MB patch)

The toolset is the most powerful to come along since the Aurora toolset (Neverwinter Nights). It has some bugs and not documented yet but will eventually lead to some pretty grand user mods.

    88/100

I picked this up and have really been enjoying it.

I wasn't sure I would like it since I didn't really play BG or similar games back in the day, but I'm really enjoying the depth of the mechanics and the slower, more exploration focused pacing than most of the more recent RPGs that are just focused on killing all the things all the time.

Great game for anyone who enjoyed the "old school" D&D games. For me easily Game of the Year. I wish there would be more games like this!!!

No really, if you click drawers/chests that are highlighted red on the icon you get -10 points attitude towards you...and if you do it too much they finally say "Ok thats enough, arm yourself " or something to that effect.

Then I went downstairs and told Cecil "hey umm your daughter thing is dead" and he ran up and cried over her body

Made this same mistake as well since the library scene was the first environment I was in where I could steal something. Luckily, I'd saved just before.

Reminds me a lot of the theft paradigm in Ultima 7/8, buy with much richer NPC reactions.

So has anyone had much experience with the AI Personalities?

If I make my Source-hunter partner have higher charisma than I, and have an AI on her, can she end up making my party do something I don't want to do?

She could make you go to rock-paper-sissors more often and would more easily win.

Anyone notice they use the "Please gather your party before venturing forth" when you want to use the waypoint and your party isn't together. That is like word for word from Baldur's Gate, I found that amusing.

Just started a new game last night to fix my characters specs. I used pre-built characters the first time just to explore mechanics--now it's time to min/max this game!

How valuable have you guys found pickpocket/lockpicking? In my first game I never really came across anything i couldn't just break open, although I did waste some time breaking down chests. Would i assume correctly that eventually it'll just take way too much time to break them open?

Also, I took the Politician trait on my Ranger. I like how it lowers intelligence to raise charisma lol

just started but there are a few locked doors that I couldn't break down in town so I assume lockpicking is useful, but again I just started as well.

    Didn't notice that, hah!

I've found that with high perception you discover the location of nearby keys very often, so my need for lockpicking has been limited. Sometimes you need to manually move around furniture/random stuff in rooms to find keys under them too. And when your char says "hmmm I've found something", make sure you hit ALT to highlight items instead of blinding trying to figure out what he spotted like I did for about 5minutes :D
