Display Gaming Poll

4:3 @ 1152x864 for games if possible, 1024 if not. Don't want to drop to 75Hz either.

Currently Stand 4:3 LCD.

GOING BACK TO A 4:3 LCD.

For competitive play. It isn't about graphics, It's not about max reso's... It about Clarity and being able to see and hear whats going on. All that other jazz is for single player experience.

Are you playing your computer games on a 4:3 display or 16:9 or 16:10 Widescreen display?
LCD @ 12x10, and 16:9 HDTV @ 1280x720

It honestly just *feels* cooler and more immersive. Maybe it's only because I've done everything on 4:3 my whole life, and now wide = different = subjectively better. It also gives the feel of a bigger fov.

4:3/5:4 (1600x1200 or 1024x768 or 1280x1024)

Hopefully sometime this year, I will go to either 1920x1200 or two 1600x1200 LCDs--for anything besides gaming and surfing the two LCDs would be better. For gaming, I want WS for the wider FOV, and it would be nice to be able to flip the WS LCD 90 degrees for web surfing.

I went from a 213T 21" 4/3 to a 2005 fpw and then to a 2405FPW

16:10
1920x1200 whenever possible otherwise 1600x1200
I feel like a piece of the seen is missing when playing on a 4/3 I can never go back and so i must say field of view and subsequently a better overall gaming experience that includes the abiliity to let my 7800GTx KO stretch its legs

Both. PC games are on 4:3 CRT (for now), PS2 on my 17" 16:9 LCD/TV, PSP also. I prefer widescreen for all viewing. I won't even buy Pan and Scan/full screen DVD's.

16:9 on a 57" Hitachi HDTV

Resolution is 1080i for 360 games, and 480i for PS2, Gamecube, Dreamcast, and well, everything else.

What benefits? I use my display a lot more for watching movies and HD sports than for playing games, and 16:9 is far far better for watching HDTV content and DVD movies. For gaming, it is a little better and more natural with regard of field of view.

My computer has a 4:3 20" 1600x12000 LCD, but I don't really consider that a gaming display since I don't game on the computer at all anymore since getting the 360 (and did it so rarely before that there was no reason to mention it).

I play on a 4:3 Envision CRT. I try my best to play at 1600x1200, but with games like FEAR it just won't feasibly work.

SyncMaster 1100DF 21" CRT (4:3) @ 1280x1024 100Hz.

I will get a nice WS LCD when they are better for fast gaming and colours. I don't think that will be anytime soon, I just love my flat syncmaster. ;)

19'' CRT 1280 x 960 @ 85hz

Running games in 1280 x 800 2xaa 4xaf Windowed WS mode.

16:10 on a FW900 and I run everthing at 1920x1200

WS provides a marked increase in my SA due to the wider POV it brings. And lets not forget the sheer beauty of high res gaming :D

16:10 @ 1920x1200 (2405FPW)

I definitely notice how much more I can see versus playing at 1600x1200 (used to play at that res on 2001FP.)

16x9
1920x1080 (1080p Westing house 37" LCD monitor.) Whoo hoo!!!
Half-Life 2 on a huge 37" display is just awesome. A 4:3 monitor this size would be too tall. Much better to go wide.

If you are playing your computer games on a Widescreen display what resolution are you playing at?

4:3

1600x1200 @ 85Hz

I would love to go to wide screen but I am not happy with the performance of the available wide screen monitors compared to my current monitor. Also, not all games support wide screen yet.

I think wide screen would give you a better experience in gaming the same way it is better for watching movies or television. Widescreen is closer to the actual size of the human sight picture so it would feel more natural and maybe make games a bit more immersive.

Dell 2405FPW (1920x1200)

Gaming, I mainly play WoW but this monitors is fantasic for both work and gaming.

I run the same resolution on the same screen, and I agree, widescreen is excellent, feels like more stuff in game is viewable.

27 inch @ 1280 x 768, soon to upgrade to 2405. Since HL2 and GTA:sa theres no going back to 4:3.

16:10 Sony GDM FW-900
i usually run at 1280x1024 for the newer games (DoD:S, CS:S, F.E.A.R.,Rome:TW, and America's Army). older stuff at 1600x1200 (Far Cry, Dungeon Siege2, Doom3) CS 1.6 and DoD @ 2048x1536
i wold say the biggest advantage is that i dont have to sit as close to my monitor to game. now i can sit back and relax which helps with the eye, back and wrist strain.

Not quite a 4:3 here - I run at 1280x1024 (native resolution of my LCD). :) The key is that I try to run this resolution whenever possible, there are a few "older" games that don't allow it.

I'm still 4:3, but I could see a 16X9 haveing a good advantage in a FPS.
