Disgusting Things Found Inside Computers

Used to work for a Alienware here in Miami and the filthy things we would receive in Depot. Some ppl can be really disgusting when it comes to their computers, then they wonder why their computers are so loud and hot. lol.

This week I had a guy bring in his laptop after he had consumed too much whiskey and had vomited on it. My co-worker had taken the call. I told him it was going to be way worse than the guy was telling him (it was), and that biohazard removal is not something we do. I refused to work on it, and so did the co-worker after he saw how bad it was.

Dust on a heat sink: oh the horror.....

Come back when the fan stops moving because it's clogged from buildup.

The spider and it's leftovers would have given me a heart attack. The frog is just wtf.

The water cooled and clogged radiator owner should be beaten.

Dead frog was awesome. I have found dead mice before, and spiders are not uncommon.

All this dirt reminds me I have to clean my AC unit. I opened it a few weeks ago only to close it in disgust 5 seconds later. A vacuum cleaner can't fix this... stuff. I have to pay someone do it instead of me.

I used to work at a glass manufacturing company. Air hose with inline desiccant. 'Nuff said.

ROFL. Now that is pretty bad.... Dust I can deal with but bodily fluids not so much!

ThinkComputers has posted a couple pages of pictures of the most disgusting things found inside computers. I snagged this picture to give you an idea what to expect.

The Horror, The Horror...

Dead frog yup =)

If I found a spider in my PC lol...

a lot of servers collect dust like crazy..

Never seen a dead frog in a system before, that's a new one, I have seen mice, cockroaches, and ants, but I still think the worst I have had to deal with, is a smokers computer, where the fans cannot turn because the blades are covered in tar dust, and the bearings have seized due to the same crud.

I've found insect parts, nicotine stains, ear wax, cat urine, urine of questionable origin, rat droppings, water, coffee, soda, cat vomit, human vomit, soot from fire damage, dead mice, and marijuana inside computers I've worked on over the years.

And while some of these would seem like laptop only issues, they weren't necessarily all confined to laptops.

I use washable DEMCIflex dust filters here, sure some dust still gets in, but gawd, not nearly as bad as these pics. :)

And yes, keep the PCs off of the danged floor... Mine is 33.5" above the floor.

Though the dead frog was a nice touch... I wonder did the Frog go out with a smile?

Horrible. Just... bleh.

Really wish I could put my PC elsewhere besides the floor. Thank the spaghetti monster for dust filters and this piece of wood from my old desk to have my case sit on.

Oh yeah, I hate smokers' computers too. If someone wants me to fix their computer and they bring it to me smelling like smoke, I tell them to take it to someone else.

How in the name of fuck do you not notice a dead frog in your machine? Furthermore, how the fuck did he get in there?

Ugh, reminds me of my neighbors from work.. Deaf twins, nicest guys in the world, but a bit on the socially special side. Anyway, it's your typical, "I offered help once, now I'm hired as their IT department" situation. And, don't get me wrong, I'm glad to help, as they've helped me in the past with random stuff.

Long story short, he tells me his computer is running slow. I suspect it's the usual 32 toolbar, 1001 virus overload special. Sure enough, took me a long time to get it clean, only a few pics of chicks with dix...
But the WORST, and absolute WORST part, was when I decided to clean them out with the compressor. Ugh.. The nastiest, uber-foul smell came from the dust.. I was basically inhaling the twin brothers skin, it even smelled like them...
TL;DR - I did a few lines of my special twin work neighbors dead skin.

they really should teach purchasers about intake filters. i clean mine every 2 months or so.

The worst I've seen are those images passed around online of the snake that had been diced to death in the power supply fan and of the clutch of black widow babies. A close third are the collective smokers' cases full of orange goo. Thankfully, the worst I've personally encountered is the rogue dust bunny but then I try to avoid being tech support because of the horror stories (and the expectation I continue to be tech support indefinitely).

Now picture the inside of the owner's lungs...yick.

I've seen the tar dust before, its horrifying. They should use pictures like that in the anti-smoking ads "If this is what your computer looks like after 5 years, just imagine what your lungs look like". I believe it is necessary to have a nice shop vac for these types of cleanup, with an additional cleanup fee.

cigarette smoke tar in a computer is the worst, you can't even clean that stuff up it just sticks on your hardware and will never come off, think about that stuff stuck in your lungs. Ugh, although petrified frog inside a computer is a new one, not sure how that came to be.

Worst I saw was a six month old computer where the case rusted and everything was covered in red clay dirt. The system ran hot so the user stuck it in a window. They lived on a dirt road and he never closed it so it sat there all spring and summer taking in all the mosture from the environment.

DEMCIflex are in My opinion the best and there are versions available for a decent amount of aftermarket PC cases... I use them on My CM HAF-932 case.
