DiRT Rally

They're all in the 3-6 minute range I think.. definitely nothing in the 10+ minute range. Also what's disappointing is each of the "12" courses is really just a different arrangement of one larger area, so as you're driving around you'll continuously recognize sections.
Still waiting for a rally game with realistic stages...

Still waiting for a rally game with realistic stages...

I hear ya... I'd love to see a rally sim with procedurally generated courses. In fact I can't think of a better use of procedural generation for a game that's all about rapid, on the fly decision making.

Anyway, apparently the devs were made aware of some very good comments on the FFB from a Youtuber and are in the process of tweaking FFB to be more realistic. Kinda weird to me that they need a random Youtuber to tell them how FFB should work - you'd think they'd have someone from the get go on their team who understands these basic issues, but apparently not. Still, at least they ARE trying and listening to feed back and critique.

For some reason if I don't oc my card I get 25-30fps tops and it looks even worse. Even a slight overclock brings it to 55-70. Thinking its something with my system though because I've noticed similar in star citizen. Also my computer will frequently completely lock up while playing this game. I may need to get rid of windows 10 soon..

For some reason the fps feels a lot lower than the reported fps. I can usually tolerate down to 35-45 depending on the game, but as soon as this drop below 60 it gets chunky feeling.

OMG. I am sweating and I was playing with the XBOX controller. This evening I'll break out the Logitech G27 and hopefully not stroke from concentrating so hard. This is one stressful game!

Graphic look good but there is some glitch or weird things with the trees. Also the copilot is not saying the right thing at all; At least in my version...

Aside this, the game look good and the driving the car is nice. The track are great and hard too. If the copilot was working well, I'd for sure play this until I finish all the tracks.

I played for the first time since the co-pilot fix last night and it was great. The game was much more immersive and my times improved a good bit.

I bought my first 1970s car and absolutely hate it. Not sure why the rear tires feel like they have grip for days and any movement of the wheel just causes it to turn 90 degrees like I'm using cutting brakes. Anyone else notice this? Or am I just awful?

I figured out my full screen artifacting problem was being cause by CSAA. Turning that to any other method fixed my issue.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the handling. Are you saying the rear has too much grip and it won't slide, or that it slides too easily?

There should be plenty of sliding with any of the rear wheel drive cars. Many corners must be taken with lots of opposite lock, especially tight corners and hairpins.

No slide at all is the problem i'm running into. I'll try it some more tonight. Maybe this car and i just don't get along.

Use the brakes to steer. Lightly dragging the brakes will transfer weight from the back to the front and increase your front grip. It's kind of art ti tine everything such that you don't understeer or don't cause the back to come around. Really difficult with a 360 controller I use.

After going back to windows 8.1 the game is flawless. Stole my roommates monitor (same 27" monitor as I have) and holy shit I've been missing out. I almost got motion sickness at first and even found it distracting. By my second course I was drug into it.

Pikes Peak - Out Now For DiRT Rally

May 26 - justbiglee

It seems like forever ago when we pushed the button and surprised the world with DiRT Rally. To everybody reading this screen we can’t thank you enough. Today we're really please to be able to push the button on our first big update, the Pikes Peak Pack which is available now and included in DiRT Rally no extra cost. It should start downloading the next time you log into Steam but if it just so happens that you don't own a copy of DiRT Rally yet you can purchase it on Steam right here.

Here’s a brief rundown of what we’ve added in v0.4

The world famous Pikes Peak - Built from the ground up in its full fat modern tarmac state (the first time in a video game) and the mixed surface variant we all grew up loving. We’ve also included a variety of weather conditions and three iconic Hillclimb cars to add to your garage.

You’ll find that we’ve rolled Hillclimb into our Championship mode, it will crop up from time to time in our Online Events and you’ll now be able to select it in Custom Events and add it to your Leagues.

That’s not all though, we’ve also made some improvements and additions to the rest of the game including.

Some of our AI drivers have got fed up with watching you driving so well so expect some of them to start trying to rival your performances and give you more of a run for your money.

A few changes in the UI where we’ve labelled the stages in custom events 'Long' and 'Sprint', new players will see little pop up tutorials on first visit to each game mode (don’t worry they aren’t unskippable videos). We’ve also added some new messages in other areas of the game so you know what’s going on.

We’ve changed how your engineer slots unlock so that they now pop based on distance driven rather than cold, in-game cash. If you’ve already blown a load of cash on those slots... Sorry!

Custom Events will now use the fully upgraded versions of a car rather than the poor man’s version and we’ve made sure that your favourite livery will be stored for the next event.

We’ve also added in some new liveries including the Rallysport Development wrap for the Fiat 131 Abarth, the Peugeot Sport livery for the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 and the Phil Collins Rally livery for the Ford Escort Mk II. Teams like these were kind enough to give us access to their awesome machines during development and without these guys and the rest of the rally scene here in the UK, DiRT Rally wouldn’t be the game it is.

On behalf of everybody at Codemasters thank you to those awesome rally folks and a huge thank you to you for playing.

Thank you for all your support on DiRT Rally, it's been an awesome first few weeks and we don't plan on slowing down anytime soon.

Next stop... Germany.

Very cool to see Pikes Peak ready. Having lived in Colorado Springs for a few years and driven that road many times, it's awesome to play it in a video game.

Still waiting for a rally game with realistic stages...

I can't remember which one it was, I'm almost positive it was Rally Championship 2000, but it had some very decent stages. Obviously it's completely dated at this point, but I remember it being excellent in that department. I grew up bordering on old unused logging roads that went on for miles, and used to explore them on dirt bikes and other things like that, and this game really gave a good feeling of being on that sort of terrain. Probably hasn't held up too well visually though. (at work, so can't go looking really)

Explanation of what the Co-Driver calls mean.

Nice stuff. I wish I could read. At least I got that:

Which appear to be all good to me. But I think the numbers will be in different order imo. And I wonder if I'd be faster in the correct order of my mind taste.

There is a (small) debate as to if the numbers should be reversed - I too recall hearing (maybe it was in-car footage of WRC) lower numbers denoting turns that are minor not major. Maybe that flavor of co-driver calls went out of fashion? I think Codemasters has always had it where lower numbers indicate tigher turns.

I'm not even sure if I prefer reverse number. I think yes, it is one of the reason I had hard time in this game. I'm not sure if I could get used, I did not play for long because the games was not working well here.

I think the driver is more important that the co-pilot. But again I'm not sure if I could be as good with numbers that are not natural.

For those that were craving longer stages, try the online events. The maps will download to your PC and the stages are much longer than the ones that it launched with. You get credits to buy cars and stuff like the base game depending on how well you do.

I have a question about the Advanced Blending setting. Is anyone with a higher end GPU than my R9 290 can enable it and maintain 50 - 60 fps average in the benchmark with everything else on max at 1080p? That setting looks great on the grass and trees, but cuts my frame rate down to 30 fps. Thanks!

I've been on the fence about picking this up, but I think I may do it. My GPU isn't higher-end exactly, just different (GTX 970) but I'd be happy to post those results once I grab the game. (tonight or tomorrow I should think...)

I would've bought this for sure - but the problem is time. When am I going to play it?

I just bought Project Cars, and think it's brilliant. I've only managed to get in about eight hours so far. This is a 200 hour game easily. I've raced on only two tracks so far.

Then there's Codemasters' own F1 next-gen game releasing next month. It looks fantastic. A significant upgrade. I'll be spending time playing both games. I just can't justify buying this game yet. It really does look fantastic though.

I like what I'm seeing from Codemasters. They seem to have taken a turn for the better.

Let me know what you think... I've been thinking about it as well and I have a 970, would love to hear how it went for you.

Luckily this game is an awesome Rally sim so it has nothing in common with those games. Unless you consider champagne and water to be the same thing. ;) Of course you drink both, but they are most undoubtedly different.

You're right. This rally racing. Maybe I should buy it?

It's darn good! AAA title so far. Remember that it is Early Access still so if you encounter a bug, report it in great detail on the forums and they will usually fix it in a couple days. :)

Month three of DiRT Rally and our next big update is now live. Version v.0.5 - more commonly known as the Tarmac Terrors update - has now been added to DiRT Rally; it’s fast paced, technical and is...

If you’re new to DiRT Rally, hello! Welcome to the team. If you’ve been here for a while we want to thank you again for your continued support.

We’ve got a really exciting summer of content and updates planned so to be sure you’re in the loop on the latest DiRTy gossip make sure you are following us on Twitter, Facebook or even our subreddit.

Fixes

Alongside all of our new features we’ve been hard at work tracking cleaning those annoying bugs of the front of the bumper, here’s the full list of what we’ve fixed in this latest version:
•Error 41 – Fixed instances of the game not booting when there is less than 2GB of free space on C:\ drive. This was one of the causes of the dreaded error 41.
•Achievement – “Going up in the world” will now pop if you had previously purchased a Hillclimb car but not received the achievement.
•Stability – Driving the Peugeot 405 T16 would sometimes cause stability issues, we’ve fixed those now.
•Graphics – Quite a few changes for users running Nvidia SLI. That weird black and orange screen bug is fixed and we’ve solved the graphical corruption when using SLI and anti-aliasing on high/ultra graphical presets.
•Audio – The engine audio level in cockpit view can now be properly controlled by the slider.
•Gameplay – The reset button should appear sooner during those awkward moments when you beach your car at the side of the road. Though we advise not beaching your car.
•Gameplay – Sometimes you could rev the engine so hard on the Audi Sport Quattro the “Recover vehicle” prompt would pop up, it won’t do that anymore.
•Gameplay – We’ve planted some trees and shrubs in areas of Greece and Wales where we spotted that some of you were taking shortcuts. Taking some cuts in rally is cool but these cuts were definitely not cool.
•Gameplay – Fixed a loophole which would let you continually repair your car in Online Hillclimb events.
•Gameplay – Online Hillclimb events will now factor in slower times from Run 2 and they won’t overwrite faster times from Run 1.
•Message box – Stopped the Promotion message box from incorrectly displaying when you have completed the Masters Championship and finished in the top 3 positions.
•Save – Your advanced set ups should now save as expected
•Oculus – Sometimes the background on the main menu would vanish, we’ve fixed that now.
•Online Events – You’ll now be disqualified if you don’t start moving within a minute
•Leagues – Made the text on the league screens easier to read on lower resolutions.
•Audio – Pre-update your co-driver may have become a little disinterested if you left the centre of the track from time to time, we’ve spoken to him about his attitude.
•Audio – Ever had two sets of music play over a replay? That’s not a remix version and it should stop happening from now on.
•Controller Fix – Fixed an issue which meant players couldn’t change the stage conditions when using the Microsoft Sidewinder Wheel.

To get the latest update you don’t need to do anything, simply fire up Steam and the full update should automatically download to your PC.

As with every big update we’ll be live with the DiRT Show which you can watch on http://twitch.tv/dirtgame. We’ll have competition prizes, you can ask the team questions; watch us play through all the new stuff. It’s going to be great so be sure to tune in.

[twitch.tv]

For now enjoy your 12 new stages and some of the most challenging roads to hit DiRT Rally.

Pretty excited - I really liked the original "Germany" stages in (CMR) Dirt (aka Dirt 1).

Okay, so THIS is how you do Early Access.

Submit your game to the public while it's nearing the end of its development cycle, ask for feedback, then implement the feedback that's worthy of being implemented.

I might have to support this now.

I've played for about 3 hours on my friends racing rig. It's very fun. But I'm not sure how I would do with just my keyboard. But a good idea nonetheless.

I find a gamepad to be a good middle ground for driving. Much better than a kb or mouse anyway. (in most cases anyway) Simplified driving like Rage/BL/etc. is still kinda fun with the mouse/kb.

With Advanced Blending disabled, but everything else the same.

Average: 121.84
Max 163.49
Min 92.12

Advanced blending does take a huge hit on performance it seems. I've got a 980 I can try, too.

The new German stages kick ass, and the new cars are awesome too. Although the Kadet feels like it has about 37 horsepower.

Advanced blending?

What is this, a course for bartenders?

I would like to see an IQ comparison between Advanced blending On versus Off. There are tons of threads and posts on the webz about the FPS hit it incurs, but no actual description/demonstration of what it actually does.

@Skillz thanks for the testing! I may get a second R9 290 and see if it can run Advanced Blending as well. I think it looks very nice when enabled.

@KazeoHin people say it's ATOC. It certainly makes the trees and grass look awesome at any rate.

Man I'm really mad now. I just bought a new MSI 390x and I find out that it does NOT come with a free copy of Dirt Rally. But all the XFX cards do.

You think thats bad, my new gfx card comes with Batman Arkham Knight !!
