Digi Cam Poll: What Digital Camera do you use?

I have a canon FTb (the wind action is broken, and I have a roll of film in there :() , and a sony dsc-p32.

Sony DSC-P92, great point and shoot camera. Wish it had a few more features, but it is more then enough for my first camera.

Wild Weasel - Find a room without windows (such as the bathroom), bring some towels to stuff under the door, and basicly make the entire room a nice darkroom. Once you turn the lights out and make sure there are no light leaks, open up the back of your camera, and then fumble with the film to get it back into the canister. Once you're sure all of it is back in the canister you can turn the lights on and hope you were right.

If you're lucky you can develop the roll and not have any fogged pictures; if not you'd have a streamer of exposed/ruined film to toss around. Good luck :D

BTW, they do make special light-tight film changing bags for this. Could be helpful if you can't toss a quick dark room together...

Could I use a red light in the makshift darkroom? It's been nearly 6 months since the last picture was taken and I've forgotten how to open it...

No, the red-light isn't safe for film. Film has to be handled in complete darkeness otherwise you'll probably fog it / mess up the pics. :(

So try figuring out what you need to do to open it, and then open it in complete darkeness, and then roll the film back into the canister. After it is fully in the canister it should be safe to turn lights on, and then you can get it developed and see if you were lucky or not.

BTW, the red-light is only compatible with B&W Photo Paper. Some color papers can handle the red light, but at times the effects are visible so exposure to it is recommended to be kept at a minimum. Since film is generally much more sensitive than paper, and is sensitive to a wider spectrum including some UV & very deep reds (some are IR sensitive), red-light = bad.

Hope this helps, and good luck. :)

Just sold my Canon PowerShot S45 with 4Gb Flash drive on the [H] forums
and used the money to buy a Canon SD300. (also bought a 1Gb SD card, but the sale price didnt cover it :( )

The S45 like all the other Powershot S__ series is too big. (for me)
The S45 up to the S70 are great cameras that take nice pictures with excellent detail, but they look too old school. (large)

So I sacrificed quality for convenience and got the tiny SD300 which has very similar specs, however does do a slightly better movie mode, but I've noticed the level of detail is not as good as my trusty old S45.

All in all I'm happy with my trade up (or down)

Hopefully, now I'll bring my camera more places since its smaller / more convenient (will fit in my pocket!) Though I miss having the endless storage of 4Gb's!

Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom.

Yeah, its only 2MP, but damn is 10x optical zoom sweet, and in a relatively small size too.

I've been looking at the Casio Exilim cameras as good 2nd camera, something at least 4 or 5 MP, and with that gorgeous huge screen.

Nikon D70
Nikon 28-200G 3.5-5.6
Nikon 50mm f1.8d
SB-600
4.5GB CF memory
Nikon N65 w/MB-17 battery pack
Nikon 28-80 f3.3-5.6

Canon SD500. Just got it yesterday (thanks to the UPS guy who made a second stop by my place yesterday after he missed me the first time), so I haven't had much practice with it yet.

Just one complaint - a 32meg card in a 7.1 megapixel camera?! Are they on crack?

yeah, how bout buying a Fuji S5100. 16MB card for a 5MP camera. sheesh

I've had a sony v1 for a while now. It is a great point and shoot that still beats a bunch of cameras out now. I want to replace it with something that is faster between shots but have yet to see anything that really stands out.

Personal Shiz:
Canon 300D w/ crappy 18-55 Lens and 256 card
Sony HC-40 (Digi Camcorder)
Olympus Stlyus 400 (This thing takes awesome pics!)Example

Work:
6 Elan 7e
2 Elan 50 something
1 Film Rebel
8 28-80 Lens (Main lens on my digital rebel)
1 28-105 Internal Focus Lens
1 100-400 something lens
bunches of random flashes
20ds ON THE WAY

Canon Powershot A300.

Overpriced piece of junk. Can't believe I dropped over 200 bucks for it.

Nikon D70
18-70 mm DX lens

I also had 2 film cameras, an Olympus P&S and a Canon SLR that was lost a long time ago in my house.

Just picked up the D70 a week ago, and I'm really loving it. The first thing I want to buy for it (besides a good bag) is the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 lens.

Sony DSC-S50
Sony DSC-W1

Enjoying the W1, but getting use to it. Picked it up a few days ago. :D

Sony W1 :) like the guy above me
256meg memory stick pro (really hating the memory stick format now want SD or CF!)

What are you not liking about the sony memory stick? Personally I don't have a love/hate relationship with them.

I can't speak for awdark, but this little comparison is what makes me recommend people avoid Sony's format. Certainly the price discrepancy isn't as large as it used to be, but it's still significant.

Same here. Memory sticks are the only reason I will never own a Sony camera. Bastards should get off the proprietary format bandwagon and use something readily available, like SD or CF. It's kind of like having a Canon printer that only works with Canon brand paper.

im getting a 350D w/ grip and kit lens, as well as a sigma 100-300 f/4 pluss a 1.4x TC., but for now i use a konica minolta z3

I've heard good things about the 100-300mm f/4. Post some samples when it comes in. Which TC are you getting? We got the Sigma 2x here at work, not realizing that it didn't allow AF on our new Sigma 150mm. Despite that, it's still quite handy.

the sigma 1.4x EX APO.

im not going to have the camera for a month or so(cant get it till school is over), but i will post some as soon as i get it

also, if you want to see some samples of the lens now, check out

i was particularly impressed with this shot taken near wide open(f/4.5, he ment to take it at 4.0 but didnt realise it wasnt)

100% crop(strait off the camera)

at the moment im also thinking about getting the sigma 80-400 OS(IS, but no USM/HSM), and the sigma 50-500 'bigma'. if anyone wants to see an impressive lens, check out the 'sigmonster' 300-800.. the thing is massive

Nice samples. I had seen some previously, but those really show off the capabilities. Good call getting a matched Sigma TC; I've heard you'll get better results and compatibility than with Kenkos and whatnot (though I honestly don't know much about them).

I would avoid the 50-500mm. It's very enticing to have a lens that covers such a range, and even covers the whole range surprisingly well. But for the money (and sticking to Sigma), I think you'd be much better off with their 50mm prime (fantastic lens) and the 100-300mm. I guess the total cost there is slightly greater, but it'll be a hell of a lot more portable than the 50-500mm, as well as brighter and sharper at the extremes.

By the way, PS-RagE has the 300-800mm; see this thread and bug him for some more samples. ;)

at this point im planning one useing a 2 lens setup untill the end of the summer(the kit+the main lens, either the 100-300 f/4+1.4xTC(most likely), 80-400(close second), or the bigma(far third). i like the 100-300 for its good work with a TC, amazing focas speed(acording to what i have heard), and really sharp images(rivals the L's from what i have heard/seen). however, im planning on useing it partialy for aviation photography, inwhich panning is important(which the 80-400 does really well at aparently, however the focas isnt as fast). what makes the choice even harder is that they are all the same price(or close, www.sigma4less.com).

I currently have a Canon Powershot A95, but am picking up the Konica/Minolta Dimage A200 in a couple of days. (I miss all the exposure options and the zoom lens my Olympus C-740UZ had)

Use a Canon PowerShot SD500. I love it.. I've taken about 1,100 pics in the past week ;) Also have a Sony CD300 that I never use anymore.. Had a JVC GR-D90U camcorder, it died (with zero abuse) within the year.. so I had to buy a Sony DCR-HC21 camcorder.

Curently using an Olympus 5050 that I love and has served me well, got it 3 years ago and it's 5MP shots are still better than most. Soon I'm picking up a Rebel XT kit... =( Poor college kids can't afford lenses

You guys are all making me feel inadequate :p

Just picked up my second digi cam, finally a decent one from Konica/Minolta, a DiMAGE Z10 along with a 256 meg SD stick.

couple of test pics

This ones testing out the macro function.

Muh pups, second pic was actually taken from 15 feet away using the zoom lens on the new cam which im starting to love. (yes I had to fix the eyes on both pics due to redeye, hadnt figured out how to turn on redeye reduction yet lol)

Still, overall im extremely pleased with the purchase, $199 at http://www.microcenter.com with 20% off all there cameras brought it down to $160, also picked up 256 meg SD stick, camera bag, 8 NIMH's, plug in type quick charger, car charger and 2 yrs extended warranty for $306 total.

Just as an example of what I was having to deal with before getting the new cam. I have an old Kodak DC 3200 that I took a pic of with the new cam, and did the reverse as well, taking a pic of the old cam with the new one in same spot.

I think I'll keep the new cam ;)

Edit: Just adding in couple of pics I just took few min ago.
