Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

anyway...

I found a new route, and doing mp0 runs I am netting around 70m exp a run, and managed to find 14 legendaries in around 6 hours game time. Think I am on to something. Went from paragon 41 to 47 I believe.

Have an unid mempo I just found. Trying to figure out what to do with it. Was told it could net as much as 45m unid'd...

To net 70m xp per run, it must be a pretty long route ? I gain about 15-16m per Alkaizer run (Arreat Core -> Tower of damned 1 -> Arreat 2 -> Bridge of korsikk -> Halls 2 -> Halls 3) and I can do 2-3 per hour. I can get 1 paragon level per 1.5 hour of run (currently at PL30, less tha 10% into 31).

As for the mempo, it's sometime good to sell it unid but on the flip side, it might even be a godly one worth over 100m if it include CC or less if the stats is far from stellar. D3 is all about gambling ;-)

Stonefort, back through blue door. Clear first zone to start. Tower 1, Bridge wp to fields wp, halls 2, and whatever that second floor core one is. Only picking up oranges and jewlery. Its easily 60m at mp0.

. it is a 10 hour game with about 3 hours of content looped

YOU ARE DOOMED NEPHALEM!

This pretty much sums up D3. I just don't understand how people can be enthusiastic about grinding for that next stat bump, only so they can grind more through the same content with no variation..For what?

Been saying it since release... they'll slowly make grinding less relevant as they produce content that takes your time instead, and nerfing leveling time to counter balance.

Have you ever played a slot machine?

very relevant web comic: http://www.thebroctopus.com/comic/jay-wilsons-failed-pvp-ideas/

how is the full PVP still not out? Is it just 1 v 1 right now?

PVP is coming next patch in the form of a FFA zone. You talk to a guy in the inn and he takes you to a zone where 2-4 people can battle in FFA. It's pretty fun, but so very imbalanced. It's no wonder they scrapped their PVP idea--without HUGE changes, there's no way this game could be competitive with the current skills.

I gotta say, D2 had no goal either. The one time i purchased gear in D2 i got the best gear for my sorc. I played her maybe once, and then never touched it again. Diablo IS about the grind.

That being said, there was still more variety in what you could grind in D2, and more dependable drops because bosses had loot tables. They're slowly adding more of this dependable loot into the game through the crafting of legendaries. I'm okay with that.

My buddy and i started new characters last night. MP10 Softcore, but barring any assistance from our other characters. We have to attain gear from crafting/vendors/drops.

We had an absolute blast getting through act 1. It was really how the game should have been at launch. Upgrades often, using crafting to fill in holes, checking vendors for better shit, etc... very fun experience. The only thing that could make it better is if gold were separated per character. Kinda silly having 5mil on my new guy.

In a nutshell, the game is really fun if you treat it more like a co-op arpg on MP10 vs an MMO where you go endgame, in my experience of course.

yeah being part of one of the most successful PC games ever must suck :)

It's true that it sold very well but that was based on its name. D3 did hurt Blizzard's reputation. After a couple of months, the player base dropped by 65%. I think it's a decent game but it was released unpolished, unfinished, and had way less replay value than the previous Diablo games.

It selling well is all that really matters to Blizzard. Jay Wilson is probably treated like a hero given a massive raise and moved to their highest priority project.

What is the standard player base drop rate for gaming after a few month? without knowing that your comment is useless.

I'm sure Torch Light 2 saw a 65 % player base drop after a couple of months.
I'm sure BF3 saw a 65 % player base drop after a couple of months.
I'm sure most games see a 65% player drop rate after a couple of months.
Its kind of what happens with games. People play them then stop playing them.

D1 and D2 had shit for replay at the same point in gaming life cycle. D2's replay mostly came after the expansion pack and D1 didn't really have any replay. To me D3 had just as much replay as D2 at launch.

Blizzards overall handling of D3 however did likely hurt their overall reputation...But not enough to prevent D4 from being the highest selling game in the franchise.

So your drop rates are coming just from you think. Your %s are just as useless then, except that I did not make my figure up. D2 even without its expansion was popular and barely had any backlash. It was a complete game with way more replay value. In D3, it's pretty much one and done for each character since everyone gets the same skills and stats.

You are right those %'s and all %'s are useless without a frame of reference.

The two games exist in different times and under different circumstances. D2 had nothing to compare it too really except D1, which wasn't much. Very few people had an online avenue for opinions or backlash so even if the same number of people had issues with it they would remain silent(which I'm sure there wasn't). Its really hard to accurately compare the games because of this.

everything else is down to opinion. But to put a frame of reference on D2 it was launched in 2000 and the Expansion came out in 2001 and the first online Ladder "what really made D2 a great online game" came out in 2003 Ubers in 2005.

Most of my replay value was added after launch. Runewords, Ladders, Charms, Class weapons, Ubers, good set items, More Stash(this was huge).

The expansion was huge but I think a part of that was due to the game mechanics (such as skills) already being in place. Synergies were an excellent addition to skills. For D3, since damage is tied to main weapon and no skills, it will be harder to create something like D2 had.

Its tit for tat. Synergies were bad ass...but so is Flipping from a Melee wizard to a Ranged wizard in seconds....also its nice having more than a 30% chance of hitting things.

I don't know where they will go with D3 but I do know I haven't really been let down by any of their patches....so things can pretty much only get better.

The main truth that hurts Blizzard is D3 should have been significantly better than it is...not to say its bad but rather is should of been better.

There is going to be some organized form of PVP later on. Blizzard's idea for PVP was not dueling. That is only to appease to the folks wanting some way to duke it out with each other. People speculate that D3's version of PVP (outside of dueling we're getting in 1.0.7) will be some kind of MOBA type mode.

Since PoE went into open beta this thread certainly got more quiet. :) I'm playing PoE as well but after a few days I find myself drifting back towards D3. For all its flaws, D3 does excel at getting IMHO "the right feeling" when beating monsters.

After a PoE session (don't get me wrong this game is fun, but I never really seem to get fully into it) I always feel the urge to play D3 as well.

One other thing I noticed, and that's probably a coincidence is that since the PoE Open Beta started my drops have become better. I've been able to earn a few million every day since last week and with one legendary (Skorn) getting around 50 million. Is it possible drops are getting better if fewer people are playing?

But more likely it's just the RNG. (Barbarian Paragon Level 31)

Diablo 3 is great! I think that most of people which say that prefer Diablo 2 are just feeling some kind of sentiment for it. I think Diablo 3 is much better.

I'd say D3 took Diablo in a different direction. This is neither good nor bad just different. Its easy to see how someone would like one over the other based on there taste.

I'd say D3 moved away from its RPG elements as much as it could.

Too me this is only a good thing because much of D2's RPG elements were broken.

If you were to make a ACTION / RPG line it would look like this.

ACTION |------D3------------------D2---TL2---------------------PoE------------ | RPG

Many people (myself included) would have like D3 to take a turn towards more RPG.

But D3 gave me something I didn't know I wanted and I really like it. PoE will probably give me what I was initially looking for in D3 on the RPG end.

This is main reason I have been saying a direct comparison between games isn't very useful.

Haven't played D3 since they announced 1.0.7 though....why would I play now when in a few weeks I'll get way more EXP......

What happens in a few weeks?

the new patch will hit. A dueling grounds will be live, as well as many rune changes for classes... but he's referring to them buffing the xp bonus for monster power.

You have way to much excitement for a mediocre patch. The only thing a few look forward to is the pvp dueling. Does it fix the endless boring grind or 99.99999% useless drops, no. But if you are part of the .01% or botter you can hunt for more keys or recipes for that uber 20 million dollar gem upgrade!

while their patches are sorta mediocre, none of them have introduced bad changes so far as i can tell. Also, i didn't really think my post was brimming with enthusiasm lol

I'm trying to figure out PoE at the moment heh

Me too...takes a little more thinking than D3. If they could combine the best of both games it would be one hell of a ARPG!

POE doesn't have the cash right now to do stuff like D3 (revamped animations, more varied item graphics, etc).
D3 doesn't want to alienate casual players by doing stuff like POE (skill tree, "hostile" mode or what POE calls Cut Throat league, etc).

Reminds me of a Russell Peters skit. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtbyVFLl_7U

I like both for different reasons. If I want to feel like a badass, I'll hop on my paragon 100 monk in D3. If I want just want to PK other players, I'll hop on POE (or will once they have Cut Throat league again).

Yeah, next patch isn't as sweet as 1.03/1.04 was content-wise, but I'm looking forward to crafting some of the account bound gear - namely the amulet.

Until then I'm enjoying PoE. Like stevedave I can't muster up any will to grind out paragon levels when I'll be getting way more exp if I wait for the patch.

i been bouncing a lil bit from PoE and D3. Just recently back to D3 left a long long long time ago as soon as i came back i finally got my first legendary drop and my first 1 million gold. Within 3 days I got 2 legendary drops, 1 set piece and now im @ 2.5 million gold. Before like 6months ago i could get no drops no gold nothing. now this is more fun i actually run something and get something out of im paragon level 5 now. i didnt even know wtf paragon levels were cuz i left so long ago. also trying to grind keys and do the portal runs for the pieces of the ring, i need 2 more pieces. I actually find the combat monster bashing more enjoyable than PoE but then i enjoy the customization side better in PoE. = \

I still haven't logged in since the announced 1.07...Hopefully they release it soon so I can pop in and Finish watching Six Feet Under.....can't really watch TV while Playing BF3.

I have a feeling this opinion will be pretty unanimous.

I just hope that PoE steals enough people away from D3 so that whoever replaces Jay Wilson will have to come up with something to put into D3 that we can actually sink our teeth into.

The customization is PoE is so fuckin awesome and fun and addictive.

I'll be all up in PoE once it releases....Dat Skill tree be hot.

I'll probably play D3 on and Off for years I'd imagine.....I just hope my gear doesn't become useless after long breaks....Like it did from 1.03 to 1.04.

I'll pop back in after 1.07 but then likely break until Expansion pack (Fire Emblem, Etrain Odyssey IV, Phantasy Star online 2)
