Just bought another Skorn...and again it decreases my DPS D:

So I just slapped that sucker on my Monk and I'm sitting at around 48k DPS. I also changed a couple of amulets(old ones from my wizard). Now it's time to increase critical hit chance and health/resist.

How? I cant access my battle account...

Let me find their number for you then. I guess you're from the USA but I copy and pasted these just in case.

Never have this problem again using http://theasiangamer.com/d3-damage-calculator/

or you can use the in game chat linking trick.

You are correct.

For any kind of +x% elemental dmg, your MH has to be black damage to get the bonus dmg.

Well, it works on all weapons, but only on the physical portion. So if your weapon has a major elemental dmg on it, you won't see as significant a gain. It would only be applied to the base.

Upgraded my skorn. Luckily got a LS one that actually increased my DPS (a whopping 800DPS!). When I bid on it, I put 80mil when it wast a 52mil current bid. After a full 20 hours, the bid never changed, so I got a good 28 mil spending money to mess with (new pants bracers, emerald gem, and vile ward are on my list). The 5% lifesteal is what makes it go up in price. I havent been able to test it yet, but I will defiantly calculate and report my EXP/HR metrics across the MPs

I just got rickrolled reading your character names. Good job! :p

There are tons of guides that show even monks (considered the most expensive to gear up) being MP2 capable for 3 million. 3million isn't pocket change for most people

Good post, I just wanted to say that 3M is less than $1.50US. I believe that is in the realm of "pocket change"

So a weapon without the +fire/lightning etc damage? I'm a bit confused as to what a black and white weapon is

A straight up physical damage weapon without elemental damage components to it. The reason is because % elemental damage like the 5-6% for each of fire, lightning and arcane are only multiplied to your physical damage, so a weapon that has something like 300-600 arcane damage is less effective because it having that component of arcane damage means the physical damage component is reduced.

My armory is going to be messed up as I'm giving my gear to my nephew / witchdoctor. Look at Breath's armory instead.

See his weapon doesn't have +fire, lightning, holy, etc? That's a black weapon. You can get black wands also. The Triumvirate's 3 boosts to elemental damage are actually boosts to base damage. Thus they are simply 6% x3 = 18% generic damage boost to your overall base damage. But remember they don't boost tacked on elemental damage. A perfect Triumvirate has +6% damage in 3 spots. Zunimassa's Trail has +8% or +9% poison damage that works the same way. That's why there is a high demand for these items. The Triumvirate still helps your wand's damage; but only the base damage and not the +elemental damage.

Tal Rasha's set bonuses are different. It is tacked on damage that only affects certain skills. Thus people don't like it. Someone else can explain it much better than I just did. If I said something wrong feel free to correct it.

Edit: Thx Harkanus! :)

Just to add:

This is a "black" weapon
pWIvl.png

People call it "black" b/c there is no elemental graphic behind the big dps numbers. Its just a plain black background and hence only has a physical damage roll on it.

versus something like this

AFAIK there is no significance behind the term "white" weapon. Could be people talking about the same thing but the majority agreed upon term is black.

A quick note on monk LS vs LoH - I notice I definitely do get LoH on my Swirling Wind twisters - if not the swirling wind itself. Hopefully I win the monk fist I bid on last night; from 1.2 AS 712 LoH to 1.4 AS 906 LoH, it should be a nice survivability boost. I'm already feeling quite "beefy" with the gear my monk has, now to slowly upgrade DPS. At around 60k DPS buffed right now, and mp3 isn't much of an issue outside of combined affixes like plagued/desecrator or molten/arcane. If it's just one, I can usually stand in it for the most part, which is awesome. With my monk I can clear mp3 10x as fast as my wizard, with 1/3 the DPS :(.

I took my Monk with 24k dps on the last quest to kill Azmodan on MP3 for kicks and 1 shotted it. Took my mage in there and one pack killed me 9 times. Ha ha!

Yeap. Melee is OP in this game. Barbs mostly though.

I wish I had a weapon that had some LoH + LS. I'm currently at around 90-100k dps buffed but LoH would still be nice :( (I bought a weapon that has LS+crit dmg + socket + vit).

Though at this point I sort of want to sell my monk's gear and just gear up my barb. It's soooooo much cheaper (such as your OH weapon not mattering on the DPS, just get stats that you need) and they are so much more effective at MP3+ with such cheap investment.

Wow, why isn't that the case with the monk as well? Or even a dual-wield DH? Seems bizarre they would give only the barb such an advantage.

Also, in regards to 2H weapons, quite a few still need buffs. Was looking at the monk set and legendary 2H, and I just don't see it. Perhaps everyone vendors them, but there was only 2 on the entire AH that had a socket, LoH and crit dmg. Or maybe none, maybe it was just 2 with the socket and LoH. With the overall lower DPS, it just isn't worth it at all.

For monks, Fist of Thunder deals damage depending on which weapon is attacking at the time. Weak offhand = weak off hand damage. Sweeping Wind, if I'm not mistaken, takes into account the active weapon at the time that you're casting. Again, weak off hand = weak cyclone damage.

I'm pretty sure cyclones don't proc life on hit. I've tested this several times. I never managed to get life on hit back from cyclones.

I have 210 life on hit and 2.7% life steal, but at 143k unbuffed/165k self buffed with Blazing Wrath, I do fine even on reflect. I have to throttle back from time to time so I don't kill myself, but I can take them. My life steal leaches back upwards of 8,500 life at times.

I was bored grinding so I wanted to see how far I can push myself up the MP ladder solo. I just finished an MP6 run. Seems like everything past mp3 is all reflect.

Quick observation: at the higher MP levels you really do need a templar. Mine's decked for survival. 53% block chance and something like 65k hitpoint. He never dies unless I die. I died 3 times in MP6, twice because I reacted too slowly to the Fallen Maniacs (the green bellied m-fers that kamikaze and blow up in your face).

Also, 44 million XP and I ding paragon 60!

AFAIK, Cyclone only procs LS, never LoH so I agree with you.

Yea I have a templar with mf gear that has +100+ vit on it. He never dies :D:p What skills are you running on him?

Because Jay Wilson plays a barb :D:p /jk

Hopefully when they re-work monk (read, nerf OWE) they make us on the level of barb instead of nerfing barb.

Templar is god and never dies. I rarely get to play single player because all my friends hop into my games.....However 3 of them reached Level 100 and lost their incentive to play so I got to solo last night did some key runs at mp 7 and he just Tanks for days.

Heal, Intimidate, Charge, and Guardian. The spirit regen doesn't work since I dual wield. It's a useless buff for monks unless you go 2 hander.

EDIT: So I can solo mp7. I die more than I like, but I can do it. But I hate dying so much, so this is where I stop.

I Prefer D3up.com. It gives very specific breakdowns and toggable buffs. It tells you the EXACT dps upgrade with your current gear per point, so for instance 1% crit adds another 2.5k damage to my fully buffed dps and every point of int gives me another 90dps. It show full break down of each ability, so non-crit damage range per skill, full crit damage range per skill, and average dps if you continually use that ability (crit factored in). If you take a look at the Tools -> DPS calculator on the left side, there is a full guide to calculating DPS, including the exact formula so you can see how black damage is affected by +%element damage. Theres also a good guide for act 3 archon farming paths, but I still prefer close to full clears just to keep it fun.

http://d3up.com/b/125161#gear

With about 40 mil, I boosted my buffed dps to over 220k, MP4 is as fast as I used to do 2, and with a LS skorn, I dont slow down to gear swap vs Damage reflect. I upgraded legs, wrists, helm and shoulders. I think I'm done for any upgrades for now. Trying to push up survivability or dps would cost an arm an a leg to replace almost any piece.

I've never gear swapped for any elite mob. If I die, I die, but the elite is gonna die before I log out. Reflect isn't that big a deal for me. I just have to watch how much damage I put out and scale back when my hitpoints go down.

I hit 60 last night. I'm halfway to hitting 61. I'll probably ding 62 tonight and 65 by tomorrow night. I think I can hit 70 before next weekend. From there though, I dunno if I can commit to 10 levels a week. XP jumps up a lot. 51 - 60 was, if I am not mistaken, 858 million xp or so. 61 - 70 will be a tad over 1 billion xp. But, 71 - 80 will be something like 1.5 billion xp. I'm guessing in two weeks I'll probably be around paragon 75. Gah, I just want to hit 100 and then be done with it and just tweak gear pieces here and there, assuming I don't hit a dry spell from 61 - 100 in terms of item drops. lol

resumed playing my barb, up to level 43 :D

So much more fun than griding paragon on monk or dh.

Spin to win is amazing to see. I tried a tempest rush build on my monk after seeing another [H] paragon 68 barb spinning and winning. I felt so slow in comparison.

Averaging about 35mil/hour in exp on MP4. I cut out most of the lower exp sections. Fleeting is the most helpful shrine, more than frenzy or even enlightenment. MP3 was about the same, but I noticed significantly less rares I had to pick up.

I love fleeting. It's weird though to me in the sense that it also feels like it bumps my attack speed just like frenzy does.

For some reason I always felt that movement speed did something to FoT animation... making it faster to jump so to speak.

so 600 hours in or so messing around on MP0 ACTIII - i finally get a decent drop - was 10k more dps than on my current 300m amulet - anyone care to guess on possible value :) :D
