Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

For all the monks out there, if you time it right, Dashing Strike can let you dash past arcane sentries without getting hit.

i have a quick question: how much dps is typically needed for mp1? i'm around 18k with my barb and struggle pretty bad in a1 inferno. my wizard, at about 30k, is even worse.

I would say 40k. If mp1 is hard, just work on mp0 act 3 inferno til you're better equipped. You'll have a better shot of finding worthwhile loot.

Someone please enlighten me if returning to this game is worth it or not. I've beaten the first "2 out of 4" difficulties way back when it was released, and quit for whatever reason. Any real incentive with all the patches and changes...? There's got to be a reason why so many of you are still discussing/playing this game.

In a little bit of a feud with a friend about this and Torchlight 2. He recently went back to D3 and is addicted to it. We played TL2 and admitted it was a far better game overall, yet he's back in D3 daily. Wondering why the sudden change of heart heh.

I thought TL2 died awhile ago. I never see that thread pop up.

Think it's more of a they are having lots of fun playing it without complaints thing rather than it's a dead game. Everyone is waiting for official mod support, but the community on the official website has already dissected the code for the game and written their own mod tools. I'm not one for running mods unless they are fluff that makes games more aesthetically pleasing.

Is there a way to join public groups in D3 that have MP levels enabled? Tried running public groups on my WitchDoctor but I always get stuck in MP0 Inferno groups. With 64k dps wearing some junk off the AH, I nearly 1 shot aoe everything down in MP0. I can't stand the gold spam from General so that is off. Is there a way to start a MP2 or MP3 game and open it to the public? Getting a bit bored of seeing the same stuff while playing solo.

MP levels are currently solo only.

I don't think it's dead. Had a few buddies in it when it came out with me, couldn't stop myself from playing. Diablo on the other hand.. ;)

Yeah something that never lived can never die.

TL2 is a great Diablo 2 clone good for a play through or two. But Diablo 3 is on a completely different level which is why its not dead now and won't be dead for years to come.

Same crap different toilet to me, in the end.

TL2 is great. I am currently playing both games. I would say TL2 is still the better game. Diablo 3 has garnered improvements which draw new interest though.

It's not a chance. It's always. They can still be crappy though if the other mods were crappy.

From the patch notes:
Affixes on items will now roll their level based on the level of the monster killed rather than the item's level (this applies to all items including random affixes on Legendary and set items)

Right, I think by "chance" he meant the same kind of chance that ilvl 63 items always had. For example, when you roll resistances on gear, you're not always going to get 70-80 resists (formely an ilvl 63 exclusive mod), but the chance is there for all items at MP1+ Inferno now.

For those looking for movement speed upgrades, Innas temperance is a viable route. Like lacunis I provides 12ms and 8-9% IAS, along with 1 crit and socket. It only has 1 extra property, so for WD and wizards, int is the best bet. This frees up the bracers for cheaper rares. I was looking up 6% crit int bracers for cheap, and for most reasonably geared, 6crit is better dps than 9ias. Innas can't roll crit, so there is no super awesome roll that really makes it spike up in price.

In fact crit/int/resall/armor bracers are relatively cheap. Once you can afford 6crit 9ias lacuni bracers, the rest of your gear should be so decked out that you're already pushing 200k

I'm thinking this will be my next upgrade. My current bracers are a legendary but not lacuni, i already have max runspeed with Inna's Temperance, and 12% boots. I want either a nice bracer upgrade or those WD boots with the 9% elemental damage, as i already have a black scorn. I just need a few more million to make this happen.

I don't know how y'all's luck has been with the AH, but the economy seems to have deflated hard. Nothing is selling anymore :(

Stuff sells. It's a matter of finding it. My luck wasn't that great last week, but changed recently. I was at 9 million on Tuesday. By Wednesday, I was up to 47 million. Sold 3 things. I have a few more on AH, so will prob make around 10 mill today.

On the other hand, I dinged paragon 57 last night.

I mean, it seems that everyone who has come back and was buying semi-decent gear has already geared up, and there are simply not enough people with shitty gear buying semi-decent gear. For instance, i can't get a neck with 7.5 crit, 51% crit damage, 120 dex, socket, and 200 life regen to sell. It's not a horrible item, and would be a huge upgrade for someone gearing up.

Just seems like only the best of the best sells, as not many people are gearing up anymore.

So, any advice on getting over the hump?

I've now got 2 level 60's, one paragon level 3 (mage), the other level 7(barb). The mage is still stuck in act 2 if inferno. With the barb I've been doing runs in act 4 inferno, or act 1 MP1. Best items I've found are worth about 100k but I have only found a couple. Got about 750k saved up now, going to try and save up till 1m to find a more significant upgrade. I've picked off a couple minor upgrades in the last couple weeks, but I'm growing a little bored of the grind. Probably playing around 10 hours per week or less, thinking I might be heading back to Skyrim soon. Barb is pretty low on all-res at the momment, but the survivability is pretty good, certainly on a thin edge from time to time but not running into frequent instant death like my mage.

Barb

Is it a mistake playing pretty much exclusively solo if I'm looking to get beyond this point? Or is it lack of any significant amount of MF%?

I think the best advice is to work towards becoming a whirlwind barbarian. Immortal Kings belt goes for less than 100k (It's less strength , but it has much needed lifesteal %)
Also see if you can afford 9% + crit Immortal Kings Gloves . And find crit on rings.

It's also nice to be dual wield for this, start off small with a high dps 1h mighty weapon in the main hand and if your budget allows, get an echoing fury for your offhand. Otherwise settle for a offhand that is not so much a DPS booster but rather a "stat-stick" which is primarily main stat , lifesteal% , crit dmg, socket, and lastly- life on hit.

You'll be spinning in no time

Unfortunately all you can do is just grind, find items, sell, gear up that barb. Barb is pretty cheap to gear up to get into MP5-6 levels of A3 alk runs. Honestly as a barb it's probably faster for you to play solo since you are so much faster than most chars using the ww/nado build.

Ah. I do have to relist things several times before they sell usually. I'm constantly adjusting the price. I don't know if most people do this, but I check for items with similar stats and check the price. I will adjust my price accordingly. I may undercut if I think the next closest item is overpriced. I may undercut if I want a quick sale. I may also undercut if I see a bunch of similar items that are obviously not selling. If there are several similar items, it means the price is too high and no one is buying. In that case, drop the price a few million to make it look appealing. It's also worth noting that the market is like a rollercoaster. I put IK gloves for sale a few days ago where they were about 8 million given stats similar to the one I was listing. I had to drop it down to about a million 5 because there was an influx of similar items and prices dropped. I was undercut by that much.

EDIT: I see mentioning of IK gloves a few replies above mine. The one I sold had 9.5% crit...1.5 million. Yes, they can be had for that cheaply.

This is great... Haven't played in 2 months... so I tried logging in and it said my password was invalid...
Filled out the "lost/hacked account" information, even uploaded a copy of my driver's license...
1 week later.. no response..

Ouch. I hope Blizz gets your account fixed up.

Going to take a wild guess and say that your account was stolen, the thief used the account to bot with, and got permabanned. What you should do is make sure your ticket is still open and then call them in reference to the open ticket.

My WoW account last had time charged to it in November 2010. From June through August of last year the hackers took control of it without paying a monthly fee. In August of 2011 I added an authenticator to the account when I purchased Starcraft II and discovered the hack. Some more stuff happened to it in February of 2012 but Blizzard won't discuss it. Initially they told me that I was account sharing and that it was all my fault. When I pointed out that no monthly payments were made to the account from November 2010 until Mists of Pandaria came out they finally listened.

In short it took them a month to reinstate my account fully although I was able to play with some old role play gear I had stashed away. Made me so mad, at the hackers; not Blizzard, that I quit after a month of the new expansion. It just didn't feel right playing without all of my old items from Vanilla WoW as they weren't recoverable because of the time that had passed.

You have to keep in contact with them otherwise they will close the ticket every time. Don't be mean or bitter but at the same time mean what you say and keep abreast of all updates. The GM's with the exception of the jackass that told me I was account sharing when I didn't even have an active account for over a year were really nice and helpful.

Just wanted to say thanks to Harkamus for helping me out with better run routes and gear advice, I appreciate it! Dude is a beast.

I'm in game now if you want to see an inferno run with the full route. Should take ~20 minutes.

I don't play long hours of d3, but I do play efficiently. On weekdays I don't play more than a single A3 run a night. Many nights I get crap, but over a week I usually find something worthwhile. I probably did 15 hours last week, and found a few mil worth.

Regarding gear:
Rome wasn't built in a day, upgrades are a slow progression. Upgrade relative to your effective income of gold. Don't save up for a super godly piece if the rest of your gear doesn't support it. A 100milion weapon is useless to someone who is wearing all other pieces worth 50k. Your better of spreading the gold around all the pieces for better build. If all you have is 3 million, you're better off buying 10 items around 200k and 2 weapons at half mil than buying 2 weapons worth 1.5mil each.

Regarding AH:
Prices are always relative to how rare they are to how fast gold can be obtained. Since better gear is easier to come by, of course items are dropping in price. This is bad for the seller (geared people) but perfect for the buyer (gearing for inferno). There are tons of guides that show even monks (considered the most expensive to gear up) being MP2 capable for 3 million. 3million isn't pocket change for most people, but it is a reasonable goal from farming act1 mp0 or act3 hell with some mp. For those gearing up beyond MP2 it's all about efficient farming.

Regarding selling on the AH:
Instead of randomly listing items you think are good, spend time comparing similar items. In the sell tab, right click on an item and click on find similar. For rares it will auto fill every affix with the exact number of that item. Remove useless stats (+health globes, dex on an int item, etc) and bump down the parameters a tad. You should get a better feel for the cost of an item. Depending on how quickly you find items, undercutting will get you more money over time. If you have 10+ sellable items, undercut with buyout. Higher caliber items(8figures) are worth taking your time, even using trade chat ortrade forums is viable to avoid the tax

Regarding efficient farming:
Always always favor speed over both MF and MP. Don't consider increasing either of them until you are basically ones shotting everything. With the exception of key/uber farming, you're not missing out on anything at higher levels. Sure you can get great MF/exp/extra drop bonuses at 10, but your killing speed will suffer too much for those bonuses to be worth it. Up the MP as your killing speed gets limited by your run speed, meaning if you bump up the MP and you kill at the same rate, then you're at a good MP to farm.

Party play:
I don't do public games because MP0 is too easy for me now, but it is a viable starting point. Equal geared players will clear faster in most cases than playing solo.

Upgrade relative to your effective income of gold. Don't save up for a super godly piece if the rest of your gear doesn't support it. A 100milion weapon is useless to someone who is wearing all other pieces worth 50k.

Best advice yet. Adding on that that, when you have limited gold, I find it very useful to look at each slot separately and make a mental note of how much life/resist/damage/etc each slot gives you given your budget. You can really only do this using a damage calculator or EHP calc. I know this is turning into World of Spreadsheet-craft or Diablo-spread 3. But, if you want to be sure an item is an upgrade and not waste money on an item that you think is an upgrade that ends up being worse, make it a habit to use that site. It's easy. It pulls data directly from Blizzard api, so your character's damage will reflect what's actually in game. There are a few extreme cases where damage may be off by 1/100th of a point, but that just shows how accurate the calc really is. One thing to note is that it doesn't not update automatically based on paragon level. So everytime you level up, you change the paragon setting manually and save your profile again. The link is: http://theasiangamer.com/d3-damage-calculator/

Slightly off topic regarding paragon leveling. I once tested how much extra XP I would get by switching from mp2 to mp3. Yea, not high mp stuff, but I was curious. Both runs regardless of mp2 or mp3 take me 20 minutes solo. Interestingly, both runs gave me the same XP, about 10 million, give or take a couple ten thousands worth. (IE: not noticeably different). What was noticeably different was the time it took to kill elites, even though it's only a few seconds extra for me on mp3 versus mp2. I do the runs enough to know when it's taking me longer. So...I still run mp2 for ease and item drops.

Along similar lines, I was testing a Hellfire ring with the extra 35% bonus XP. I did a run with and a run without the Hellfire ring. Oddly enough, with the ring I got close to 1 million LESS xp per run in the same amount of time. Now, I know monster layout is randomly generated, but can it take into account the almost one million in less XP even after factoring in 35% more bonus XP?

BTW: Try to minimize dying if you want to farm XP. Backtracking will cut away at efficiency. I die from time to time. It's rare, but if I do, I almost never back track. Not worth my time. I go to the next area in my route unless I happen to have died close to a spawn zone.

You can skip external websites to see differences. External websites are stil very useful for other analysis.

1) in the AH make sure you can see the item in question.
2) click on the text area of chat in the bottom left to bring it up. Clicking specifically in the area your text goes should do it.
3) in a chat room or a reply to another D3 player shift click and link the item. Clicking anywhere that doesn't link the item will bring the chat window to the back again, make sure to link directly then send it.
4) start up a game
5) click on your own link to see stat differences as expected in game.
6) profit!

Largest risk is letting a chat room see the item you're looking at and get them to look for it too. It may get them to buy out while you're comparing or include them in a bidding war. Linking to a friend is the best bet.

I know this tactic well, but for the risk you mentioned below, I don't do it. Friend's aren't always online. I'm at the point where people rarely get an item from under me because those things just cost tens of millions now. The exception is if I'm trying to win an auction and not a buyout. It may get sniped from under me. I find people don't blindly spend tens of millions on an item. So I'm safe for the most part.

So many hoops to jump through. You'd think that, since they bothered to include a dropdown in the AH for what character you're searching for, they would be able to give you the comparison right there.

i still find act3 mp0 the most efficient with paragon leveling - mob density is good and get roughly 10mil xp a run - takes 10-12 minutes to do AK runs. Currently have a plvl 41 wiz and plvl 21 barb, averaging 2-3 legendaries a day over 3 hours play. Using leorics signet with 27% (self found) and hellfire rings with 35xp on both myself and follower. Just crush the mobs and plvl is worth it. Worked out need 7-10days of 24 hour play to hit 100. Break this up by running key runs on mp5-6 and helping with uber on mp6-7 with my cm wiz :).

For me it depends which character I use.

My monk and Barb and crazy fast so MP0 works best because I can just blast through killing everything in my path without having to stop to attack.

My Wizard on the other hand is slow and has to stop to attack.....and is at 220k DPS... So I run him most effectively at mp3. MP3 monsters melt just as fast as MP0 at 220k DPS and because the wizard is slower he makes up for that with power. Takes about 47 seconds longer on MP3 than MP0 and thats from Extra Health mobs.

If I die I too skip that part.....Typically its Vortex, Ice, Arcane, molting that kills my wizard...Barb and monk don't die on MP0.

Finally created a witch doctor and went from level 0 to 38 in about 2 hours at MP 10. Hell fire ring is the shit on normal its ball one shots bosses.

I need to make hellfire rings :(

About to hit paragon 58. I must be nuts thinking I can hit 70 by next weekend. The push to 100 is getting closer.

yeah even the worst rolled hellfire is useful on mp0 and for leveling alt's - the xp bonuses are worth it as my bonus xp with 5 stacks is around 75% bonus + 25% for gem and 27% for leorics and 35% for hellfire and 7% from helfire ring on follower :) + whatever plvl you are bonus . Think mine is around 160% bonus xp - this makes get plvl's a far quicker process and level'd my barb to 60 in 4-5hours max (running mp10 with an friends who has a 60 already).
