Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

It's not your stats that are the problem.

Here, I just recorded this about half an hour ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXOKxrXtag8

Yes, my stats aren't what I stated, but that was awhile ago (I have since upgraded my gear) when I was determined to beat Ghom post 1.03. I'll admit it was an expensive endeavor then (I think I spent like half a million before I beat him), but these stats in the video are worse than what you have, and I took him down. (And I made several mistakes in this fight, but it's doable with much less hp. 17k is about the minimum dps I'd suggest though).

You can see the stats at the end of the video, but here's a quick synopsis.

Monk vs Inferno Ghom
HP: 29660
Resist All: 517
DPS: 17540.62
LPS: 751
LPH: 679

those are completely different stats than you originally claimed

Gotta bring up that dps as much as you can Tzzird. You don't want to risk an enrage timer with that amount of effort invested. I even went ahead and upgraded my Enchantress enough to put out a decent 4.5k dps, which helps.

It should be worth it to farm some Act I for enough gold to buy a better weapon.

Played this game for 90h, managed to collect 3 mil and then sold a rare item for 6m, so 9m to my name and i still can't upgrade or beat inferno act 2.

It was fun, good bye diablo 3.

You're doing it wrong. Beating act 3 / 4 Inferno is not a problem, it might take forever, but if you play 90% defensive, its super easy. Most minimum gear for Inferno is now in the 200k area. I've got 80 or so hours and i've only gotten 4 million according to my stats.

Most softcore barbs are now stacking DPS. Not really applicable for you in HC I feel. There are no "3-4 tries" in HC.

I feel like I'm a cat on my ninth life... so many close calls. Did you ever re-roll hardcore?

I have been farming A1, getting real boring though. I've used the Templar all the way until now because of his life saving abilities. Because of the neglect, my Enchantress can't use a level 60 weapon yet. So I'm leveling her up right now so I can get her to about 4k dps also.

Of course they're different stats. I beat Ghom post 1.03 awhile back. Obviously I'm not going to have the same gear.

Still, you made a claim that you could only get him to half health and you had more dps, more resist, and more hp. My different stats were slightly more than 60 resist, 11k health, and 400 dps. (The only major difference in the stats is really the health). I still had roughly 7 seconds before Ghom hit the enrage timer, and as I stated, the first time around, I ended up dying right as I defeated him. And I never stated people should be fighting him with my original stats (hence, why it cost me 500k to take him down post 1.03), just that it was possible. (On the other hand, I offset my lack of health with significantly higher life on hit and life regen).

The fight I recorded yesterday was quickly put together. And as I stated, I made multiple mistakes throughout the battle which cost me more health than I should have lost. (I stayed in clouds too often, I didn't renew my attack buffs quickly enough, I took wrong paths, etc). I haven't really fought Ghom for awhile, because that quite honestly is as high as my dps goes, and I'd rather farm with 5 stacks of NV and easier bosses than setting up things specially for Ghom. It's not always gear that matters. The trick with Ghom is that you shouldn't have to worry at all about his poison clouds. The only real attacks you will be taking damage from is the physical attack from Ghom (as his spawn should also be pretty much just an inconvenience at worst).

As a helpful hint, unless you can sleep your way through the Ghom fight, I would not try to face him in multiplayer. The reason is that Ghom is pretty much a very hard boss for everyone (hardest fight in the game honestly, barring some stupid affix elites). He's a fairly easy boss, minus the enrage timer, if you can get him to move as predicted. The problem is, with more players comes required teamwork, and each person doing his or her share, which is quite rare when it comes to multiplayer. And no offense, even friends sometimes aren't quite as helpful as you might think them. You have the stats to beat Ghom, and if it's your friends who you like to play with, they can join you after Ghom is dead, and get that quest completed that way, so you all can move on.

I don't understand why Ghom gives so many people trouble.

I killed him on my wizard as a glass cannon with 2 other people in game. Once they died and I was doing the kiting it was easy. Just utilize all the space and kite slowly. I'd be suprised if my wizard was at more than 22k dps then...easily was at 45k not long after.

On my monk I easily 1 shot him at less than 10k dps...not to mention 1 shot inferno diablo as well. Key there was my 1700LOH haha. Was crap gear now he's got good gear though.

I think people just don't understand kiting and using the space you have.

actually I can push it past 35k dps when using 2-handers - trying the whirlwind/run like the wind build using crit to build fury -act III still hurts though - enemies seem to be made of lead and hit like a truck :). have armor with 3 slots and pants with 2 and then fill with red gems = 2400 strength or so :) - main weapons are 700-800 dps one handers. Main issue i have is lag getting me killed originally playing on EU servers and this just sucks on ACT III - so i'm busy with a wiz on US servers way less lag issues - guess that what happens living here in NZ and being near no--one. Might just sell all my barb gear worth about 50-100mil i think.

Because he has been buffed...

You pretty much answered this for yourself. I'm going to be ruder than usual (yeah, I know that's hard to believe, but it's true), but one of my friends falls into this category. He has godly stats compared to me on his wizard, but can't survive the beginning of Act 2. I offered to help him for the first part of Act 2 (up until Maghda), provided he lead, and I'd follow and tank, just to see his play style. He was constantly trying to stay away from his opponents, and this often lead him to run into the fog of war while fighting elites already, which then brought another 1-3 elite packs on us while we were still fighting the original pack.

Sure, Ghom is a gear-check boss, but he's also a skill-check boss. He's probably the only skill-check boss in the game truth be told (sans DH & Barbs, who can sleep their way through the fight). With less than godly gear, as a monk, you can pretty much just hold down the attack button for every boss but Ghom, and not even have to move except for obvious occasions (The Butcher's floor fire, Belial's rain of fire, etc).

Truth be told, Diablo 3 really isn't a skill intensive game, regardless of what some people might think. I got bored a couple weekends ago and decided to write my interactive parody review of Diablo 3 for friends who were considering the game. I tried to cover all the worst aspects of the game.

Is it even mathematically possible to kill Ghom with less than 10kdps? Or even Belial for that matter? How would you even make it to Act III?

Belial, yes. One person posted a video earlier of starting the Belial fight after the enrage phase started. With enough resists and life on hit, anything is possible. Remember, the Ghom poison barely takes off any hp at first and gets stronger as time moves on, and that a good deal of time is spent moving from one kiting spot to another. If you can minimize how often you need to move, that can add several very valuable seconds. I know that doesn't sound like much, but 45 seconds is a huge chunk of time for a 3 minute battle.

I don't think I would even attempt anything with 10kdps in Inferno. It would get boring slowly whittling down those HP bars. You'd need to avoid some packs as well.

how's this being rude? yes if people can't do ghom they are plain bad but I have zero issues with act 2 and act 3 I'm fine 95% of the time or more. Just some packs that are insanely hard to survive against as melee give me trouble.

This is solo. Multiplayer is 10x easier.

I did inferno diablo before I did act 3 since I got the WP to him. Yes it's possible with under 10k dps yes it takes 2x as long as 20k dps.....

It fascinates me how many people cannot manage to progress. A change of playstyle, watching a video or just not sucking is all that's really required (I'm looking at you people that play Demon Hunters in Inferno and still expect to stand still and dps while things hit you). All 5 of my toons have cleared all of inferno and short of my WD/WZ that share gear worth quite a bit my DH/Barb/Monk all were geared for less than 1.7m each and they can all solo pretty much anything. More than that, if you take your time it's more than possible to gear a toon for Act 1-4 with less than 500k.

It's not about being a pro gamer and it's not about paying outrageous AH prices. It's about learning from your experience dying, changing things and moving on or you can skip that whole mess by watching someone else play your class.

Here is how to succeed in Diablo 3 in 3 easy steps!
1. Get All Resist
2. Get Damage
3. Don't get hit

You don't need 50k+ damage to progress, my Barb and Monk both killed Inferno Diablo with less than 10k damage and you don't need 30k+ HP and 1000+ All Resist on a ranged class, my DH is currently about 13k hp and 28 all resist and he manages just fine.

Dbl Tornado can suck if you have lag, whats your AR and your loh? I have 2 500dps 1h'ers and can tank the whole map with that build. You want atleast 35k health,1800 loh,700AR,6.5-7k armor, and 42%crit..i beat inferno diablo with like 16k dps with double tornado. It takes some practice but once you get it figured out you can run through most maps (field of slaughter etc) with wotb up 100% of the time.

You should link a ss of your barb gear that cleared inferno for under 1.7 mill? I'm going to call bs on that right now..Ya you might have killed the bosses but I bet you skipped 80% of the champ/rares you ran into.

Multiplayer isn't easier.

Sounds to me like you were rushed through the game, a bit.

No. Don't be a shitposter.

I have yet to skip any packs, although I haven't played him enough to say I never would, but occasionally they can take an extremely long time to kill if you get bad rolls. Every toon I have has made a full clear from Act 1 through Act 4, with the exception of my DH they have all done it solo.

Main hand is 813dps with 417 LoH, offhand is only 717 with 405 LoH. If I'm taking less damage than usual I swap to the 1200dps 2h with 850 LoH to up my dps to ~20k and if I need to take less damage period, meaning LoH from my offhand won't save me, then I equip my str/AR shield.

Shield and 2h were bought after the fact, shield was only 15k for 84 str/74 AR and the 2h was 75k.

Ok, since everyone here managed to beat inferno with 300k gear, do you mind telling me what i am doing wrong then?

Try a more balanced build like this. Trade Magic Missile for Piercing Orb for better single target damage and swap Cold Blooded for Prodigy or Galvanizing Ward as needed.

Instead of using Disintegrate + Blizzard simply cast more blizzards and use Piercing Orb. Mirror Images is okay, but very weak compared to Teleport + Fracture in utility and survival. In my experience the Mirror Images get one shot in Inferno no matter what while the Fracture decoys can take a couple hits and you gain the ability to teleport to/away from things. You can also change the rune on Energy Armor to Prismatic Armor if you're taking small amounts of damage as opposed to big chunks and it will be a welcome change.

YOU ARE UNDRGEARED FOR THE CONTENT.

that being said , google search windup wiard or wicked wiz build.

I can face rape act3/4, 120kdps wizzy, but honestly I dont get better loot in Act3 farming, as opposed to act1/2, but I just get more trash,

The sooner most people realize it will take YEARS to get the godly gear posted on the AH, the sooner people will stop playing this game.

No he isn't, what are you smoking?

300k in gear trying to beat inferno diablo?? Are you high?

His gear is garbage, simple as that. His resists need to be doubled, his dps as well.

Let me gues you cant farm the game yet,and you just beat Act1. Most of the other guys here can farm alll acts in less than 30-45 minutes.

His gear is shit all.Period.

/endofnottrollingbuttellingthetruth.

you are High. He has no LOH, NO life regen, shitty ALL resists. NO DPS to speak of. NONE existent Crit chance and Crit damage.

You have got be trolling man. His gear is fucking Taco Bell bad. Period.

400-500 resist turns into ~700 with Prismatic Armor and 16k damage is plenty with a FrostVenom build. LoH is completely pointless with a slow 2h anyways so why would that matter?

Well you need atleast 1200 all resist to do act3/4 with that low of DPS (AKA you cant kite, you need to dps in face),,.

Not trying to be a dick here but guitar guy you have no idea wtf you are talking about in a Diablo forum. Your sig computer is nice though, hopefully it contains more logical 010101 values than your Diablo3 forums posts.

I wasn't expecting to beat act 3 and 4 with my gear, but i thought act 2 would be doable, but i am always getting killed pretty fast

I'm not speaking out of theory, I'm speaking out of experience. Why don't you go give it a try instead of simply stating that it's impossible. I worked my way through the game the first time with gear not much different than that on my wizard and it was difficult but it was manageable with experience, experimentation and A LOT of health pots.

It certainly won't just fall over with that gear, but it's doable.

How long did it take you to kill champ packs?

SHow me your Wizard stats and build for FARMING ACT3 AND ACT4//////

here is where he doesn't reply back.

Let me guess you farm act1.
