Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I dont understand this. Does that mean, if I have 10k life, a hit should be reduced to 3.5k, but if someone hits me for 20k dmg, it will do 13.5k (maximum life + 35%)? So I will still get one shotted everywhere I go. Which is lame. The whole point of the skill was to allow wizards to actually be able to survive later difficulties.

I think so. Some math posted on the bnet forums.

HP=10k
Inc DMg = 16500 (165%)
FA 35%= 3500dmg

On Hit:
3500 dmg taken (per FA) + [ (TOTAL DMG) - (max HP) ]
3500+[(16500-(10000)]
3500+6500 = 10k
DEAD

It's still useful but you'll need to figure out the sweet spot in HP to stack to where you can survive a hit in inferno. Supposedly from 25k-30k HP. At least for A1/2.

The dumb thing is that they didn't fix the actual "broken" build. Aka, infinite diamond skin + frost nova. I hate all the WoW kiddies screaming for balance.

I love how some people are like, well a barb that soloed inferno has to have godly gear to do it!!! (how do you think that barb got gear in the first place:rolleyes:). There was always an imbalance between melee and ranged in D2. Everyone knows melee in D2 are heavily gear dependent vs someone like a hammerdin or sorc. Should have buffed monk/barb to be actual tanks and removed the interaction between DS and FA.

Forget soloing... grouping up is even more difficult. Grouping in Inferno is already a pretty big liability. Now that you can't burst anything down inside of SS, it's going to be a complete disaster.

Blizzard really blew it big time. They saw an abusive combination of skills / itemization and went ahead and nerfed the base skill instead of addressing how these skills / items played off of one another. Now all the players have left are broken base skills that were perfectly fine and tuned well by themselves.

Or rather, they need to look at how the other DH defensive skills work in Inferno, because as it is most of them are useless. There's no reason to use Caltrops considering most mobs just walk over them like nothing happened, Vault is too expensive, and Shadow Power with Gloom is way too risky.

I was thinking about soloing Belial today but after this nerf... yeah, not gonna happen.

A lot of skills got hit by the "inferno bat". Almost all snares / CC's are very unreliable considering they get greatly reduced in Inferno. Life leech skills like Shadow Power become greatly diminished in Inferno due to the 80% reduction. Then you take into account that you get 1 shot anyway, so what's the point of leeching life? 65% damage reduction frankly isn't even good enough in Inferno when things can hit north of 100-150k damage.

Couple this with Nephalem Valor... and Blizzard's advertised diverse and dynamic skill system suddenly becomes a complete joke. So many useless skills and they actively penalize skill swapping. Wow.

I really honestly think that 1 week after release is a bit to early to trash a game thats as big as this one. Even if I hated the game, I would maybe stop playing for a while, let some patching or whatever happen then give it another try.

All these people who are saying they want their money back and saying they wasted $60 is a bit of a stretch. Seriously. Very few people can respect what goes into a project as big as this. $60 isn't even a drop in the bucket. I mean, I can understand that some people won't like it as much as other and hey, that happens. But the sense of entitlement some of these people have is almost laughable. I think I even saw one guy on the b.net forums talking about getting a lawyer or something. lol.

I think one of the biggest problems that no one seems to be mentioning is the expectations of this game. So many people wanted it to be so many different things (tailored to what they like of course) then when it's not the game is shit and they want their money back.

I dunno. I guess to each their own but people seem to quick to cry over spilt milk these days.
^^ Part of the problem is that threads around here go around in circles multiple times. There's maybe like 2 people who want their money back. Everyone else has had fun, is having fun, and will likely have more fun in the future with D3, but are simply discussing things they have found fall short of high expectations.

Blizzard changed a lot with this game, lots that people are embracing, others that leave a bit to be desired... but in the process seem to have forgotten a few key things about what makes people continue to play games--primarily, for me at least, sweet epic loot.

Have you ever grinded in WoW for a world drop? That'd be stupid. Well, that's all you have to do in D3.

6.3 million copies sold there are going to be some complainers definitely! but for the most part the reception has been very positive.

I don't think it's anything like WoW, aside from maybe they both have some sort of Auction House, and I also think that it could merit the full retail. That's my opinion though.

I really don't think they were looking to make some sort of second-hand WoW game with D3.

IMO, i've never seen anything more resembling WoW raids than the boss fights in D3. However, while i detested raiding in WoW, i absolutely love the boss fights in D3. My only wish is that they were more challenging, and with some more mechanics added in as you get to the harder difficulties, just just more health/more damage.

I don't think so...

I don't recall D3 bosses having a main tank with heal bots in the rear while DPS sat around pressing 1 button.

The shit that has started to piss me off in Nightmare mode is those stupid purple orbs the blue/yellow mobs drop. Those things mess me up pretty bad.

WoW comparisons are made about skills and cooldowns, possibly animations as well. But there isn't much WoW-like about the encounters. Outside of 2 bosses, it's mostly just DPS boss, avoid ae/whatever. WoW raids are more scripted events with multiple stages.

Okay when i was thinking about it, i never even considered the trinity in the dynamic. I just meant that you move out of AOE ground shit, the phases, and the intro movie + graphics make it feel wow-like to me.

Well, you can certainly have a tank/dps/crowd control if you want. Monk is basically the only "healer", but the rest are there.

the same people who made wow made diablo.. so I dont see whats wrong with similarities. They definitely learned a lot from wow and made improvements there in order to make D3 better. but what most people dont realize is how much WOW took from diablo; cause wow adopted a shit ton from diablo.

kind of like comparing skyrim and fallout.

blizzard games continue to evolve and all their games benefit from the last.

This.

I kind of lost steam in Act III with my demon hunter and am trying out a wizard now.. pretty cool I can use all the groovy gear I got for my alts.

Like comparing Skyrim and Fallout 3, or 1?

The dev team that made Diablo 1-2 have mostly moved on, also. Essentially different studios to boot.

I dunno about your last sentence. I think SC1 + BW, WC1-3 and D1 are their best games for sure.

yes fallout 3. This isnt really the point though; the original comparison was WoW and Diablo 3 it looks too much like WoW complaints. The point is its the same company.. different universe of course graphically and mechanically they will be similar. Improvements have been made though. And if you listen to Jay Wilson he talks a lot about how he wanted to stay true to diablo 2 and he took a lot of things that were wrong with diablo2 and made them better and kept what was good about diablo 2 as well.

SC1 and WC2 and Diablo1 will always be some of my favorite games. Thats really a matter of opinion. Simply speaking the new games are mechanically and graphically superior in thousands of ways. Some people would argue about the mechanics one but thats because theyre wrong.

There are quite a few valid complaints to be made about D3, mechanically and otherwise. There are even some made by people who post coherently.

Yes, and we all know what they are. He was just addressing one specific complaint about the WoW similarities. Please don't take what he's talking about and apply it to the Zomg boss drops, loot attributes, weak story, bad voice acting, diablo has tits, nerfing sucks ets. arguments.

stay on topic.

Not feeling the DH changes.

I used to go:

1. Mark of death with contagion
2. Traps - with damage
3. SS - additional hatred
4. Pet - Bat for additional hatred
5. Hungering or slow arrow for primary attack
6. rapid fire as my all time attack

Basically between using SS to avoid damage and gain hatred as well as running and trapping the nerf to SS makes it almost impossible to use as a spell :(

I just solod SK on Inferno, it was doable, but I basically had to save SS for when he teleports right on top of you, then dps him while he was summoning skeletons and mow the skeletons down while dpsing him and them in straight line with Nether Tendrals.

I agree SS nerf is BS, there is a 1 second cool down on it now it seems cause you cant just spam it like. I use it then the buff falls off and I cant use it right away, it takes a second, a second in which I am usually 1 shot...

I pretty much just spend all my time using SS and running away now rather than using and getting any DPS done, it is impossible.

you can sell the battlenet account and they get your game.
F blizzard if you want to sell it, sell it.
Just more bs from these companies.

And there will be the fan boys screaming that any company putting out a game deserves it all and I am wrong.

NO I deserve to buy something and then sell it.

go ask your parents if they can buy a car or a home and then sell them.
same thing.

Except that this is for entertainment and not ESSENTIAL to you. People seem to keep forgetting that games are not necessary at all for life, but are there for enjoyment. You are not entitled to jack shit with a game. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

My Corvette is strictly for fun. A bigass Mansion is strictly for fun. No point made brah.

i brought up the wow comparison originally because i like how the boss fights resemble raiding in WoW, but yet i hated raiding in WoW and quite enjoy these boss fights.

I'm a level 25 WD, and I find that swapping your skills really does add alot of variety to this particular class. Atleast now I don't have to level an entire new character if I mess up my build. I love D2, but this game can stand on it's on merits and I find it just as fun. I'm really enjoying the updated graphics and 'modern' feel of this Diablo.

Exactly, that's a fine thing to bring up as its not all over every thread known to man. I'm just getting really fucking tired of the same people bringing up the same arguments no matter what you are trying to make a point about.

This is a prime example, you brought up the fact that its really similar to WoW raids but that you actually like it in D3, he countered saying that its the same company so its really not that much of a shock that it should be somewhat related.

Then some dumbfuck comes in spouting off at the mouth about how items and bosses and storyline and fuckin leas titties look like they're a few years too young to be on her aged body. . . . i'm exaggerating on that last one but trying to make a point.

tl:dr STOP BEING A DIPSHIT AND MAKE RELATED CRITICISMS TO THE POINT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE GAME AT ALL THEN WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU IN A DISCUSSION BOARD TARGETED AT D3 DISCUSSION AND NOT A "DON'T BUY THIS GAME" THREAD.

Cheers,
Ballin

Another Blizzfan goes full retard.

Hmmm that's very interesting as I'm not a blizzfan at all. Just pointing out the obvious when you say "mechanics and such". By mechanics you were targeting exactly what he said, and by "such" you mean everything else wrong with the game that is conceivable.

If you don't want me to swear thats cool, i can still make a point by not having to cuss like a sailor.

Next time target exactly what you're talking about instead of everything under our fuckin sun and moon by saying "and such".

thank you "I wish Lenin was prez"

I like the game, and im having fun. But let's be serious: there are a number of legitimate gripes and complaints. We've been over several of them in this thread. I don't know how blizzard is going to fix them, but hopefully they will.

I figured something else out that is missing. I miss the sense of community d2 had. You know bnet 1.0 with its chat rooms, and game lists. You could bounce baal. Run to baal run and get an actual sense of comraderie with the guys you were with. You could chat stuff up in the chatroom. You could trade, or set up a duel, or a rush, or just bs about whatever.

I miss that. Diablo 3 feels really empty when you're friends are offline.

The more I play, the less I feel I will play it as much as I did D2. I still plan on playing through all 5 chars through inferno (with AH geared characters for rushing), and taking a jab at hardcore. Then it will probably be tabled for TL2, BL2, or some other game.

On the other hand, even though I may put less hours into the game, I'll have more fun in that smaller time playing D3. D2 was very grind heavy, and read-online-best-builds heavy. I spent so much time grinding cow levels (and then later bloody runs) that I wasn't even having fun anymore, the completionist in me just wanted to finish it. The level scaling past 90 was a pretty major time sink with little reward, except saying that you spent a lot of time.

I havent hit inferno yet, but I feel that completing D3 is more a testament to skill and D2 was more a testament to time. In D2 if you had the right gear and the perfect build, the game is trivial through all of hell, and getting from 98 to 99 just meant putting more hours into the game. Even uber tristram was farm these 3 items with low drop chances to spawn a boss for 1 of 3 pieces, blah blah blah. Correct me if I'm wrong, but inferno looks like even with amazing gear, bad players wont finish it.

TLDR: I'm fine with D3 ending up with less play time than D2, because more of that time is spent in game and having fun. Maybe if I didnt work full time and didnt have other hobbies, I'd still prefer D2 aspects.

completed the game tonight on normal. was fun and I'll probably play it some more. however, I don't feel the need to rush back in.

It gets considerably harder on other difficulties, more fun IMO than just exploding entire rooms in 1 mindless click

due to me getting some really nice socketed swords and square rubys at the end of act 3, I thought the act 4 monsters were the easiest for me. Diablo himself went down pretty quickly.

Inferno is pretty much "read what other people are using, and copy it". When mobs one hit you when you are not careful is when random builds generally stop being good. Speaking from a DH standpoint that is.
