Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Lol? So tell me what class wants a lvl 60 bow that has str, and about 200 dps? I'm sure that will fly off the shelf. Or maybe a lvl 55 ring with 20 str, 4 yard increase in gold collection, 15 agility, and 12 stam.

I know perfectly well what random means.

How long did people farm D2?

The game's been out less than a week, not sure what you feel entitled to at this point.

Ok, you obviously didn't get my point but judging by how you were bashing this game nonstop prior to release that's to be expected. I have over 3m gold just by selling rares and blues, so yeah, I guess no one is buying that shit mang.

edit:
wait, I need more rolleyes smiley so we can be on the same page here :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Looks like im doing something wrong. :D

I am very disapointed in the game. Match making sucks if you don't have tons of friends. I liked D2 way better a lot less linear then this. I find myself redoing same quests over and over cause no one is where I am at. Game is annoying difficult on nightmare I can't imagine on inferno. I played through the game is single player mode there are no quests some few side event quests but nothing like d2. Act 1 and 2 was pretty good but 3 and 4 were pretty damned lame. Bosses suck, Elites tend to give more trouble. No freedom to build your Character give it a month and everyone will run the same configs.

Game is meh I give it a 70/100

Also I found way to much flashy garbage hard to see stuff.

The grammar here is quite poor.

No freedom to build your Character give it a month and everyone will run the same configs.

Have you heard of Elective Mode, cause 90% of the people I play with have no idea it exists and you sound like one of them.

How long did people farm D2?

The game's been out less than a week, not sure what you feel entitled to at this point.

The difference is, that in D2 you had set goals. In D3? You don't have any real goals. Just a random rare/blue item that has more damage. Say for example: In diablo 2, a paladin would want Schaeffer's Hammer, and other high valued unique items, once he got those that build would be complete. Instead we are stuck searching for a random item that is better than yours that you are currently using.

You also knew who to farm, and that it would eventually drop, given enough runs. Like say for instance last month I did about 1300-1500 Meph runs for a Titan's Revenge so I could make the javazon I wanted to make. Drop calc said it would be about 900 runs, but I kept at it because I knew it would drop.

Yeah, I'm sure people knew they had to run Mephisto 1000 times for a certain item less than a week after D2's release too.

You know you just proved his point, right?

Have you heard of Elective Mode, cause 90% of the people I play with have no idea it exists and you sound like one of them.

That's not his point. The point is that while there are some variable skill configs, some skills are just awful Sure there may be some tweaks to increase viability, but despite what Blizzard promised, there are some skills that are good and some that aren't so good.
The DH's archery tree, as of lvl45, is incredibly underwhelming (strafe/MS have not been the least bit convincing as viable skills due to high cost and...well not being effective. RF vs. the ridiculous spinning top? Hmm hard to choose. In comparison, twin chakram costs only 10 hatred and dealing 200% (2x 100% dmg) is far more spammable, and usable than either of those.

Grenades - um lol? Visually distracting if you're in party and one of the upgrades is actually "combine into a single grenade," lmao.

Anyway, 3 of my slots are for discipline spenders (preparation, caltrops, mark for death), so it's not hopeless. But compared to my hybrid javazon in D2 (in which I'd be using up to 10 skills at a time), it would be nice that I'd be having a harder time deciding on the DH.

Still it's only been a week - maybe i'm doing it wrong. But for someone accustomed to the zon in D2, the DH does not have nearly as many options.

I am really enjoying the sound with my headphones... wow! really immerses you in the game to another level.

The game is a massive failure in my eyes, and I'm a huge Diablo 2 fan. If you check the threads I created in the past here you'll see I talk about ladder resets in D2 and also anticipating Diablo 3. It's completely non-melee friendly in Inferno, really wish I created a Wizard/Demon Hunter instead of a Barbarian right now. And the game punishes you for playing in groups, the monsters seemingly get twice as much health and more damage so if everyone's not pulling their own weight, it's basically easier to just to play solo, doubly so against champion/elite packs. Then you have the issue with magic find. Created a magic find character? Your MF is split between party members so if you want to actually magic find, it's better to do it solo.

The way the game is balanced right now, most stats are entirely useless except if it's your main stat and vitality. I went vitality/all resist setup on my barbarian, had a bit more survivablity, but my damage became non-existant to the point to it was pointless. Main stat+Vitality is the way to go, even magics with high stats in those will be better than rares, kinda dumb. The legendaries aren't legendary and have no truly unique stats to make them stand out, so even if you do find one chances are it'll suck ass.

There's so many little things I hate about this game, instead of the elements being like Diablo 2, where poison gives a damage over time effect, lightning gave low min high max damage and so on, all of the elements don't have any effect other than to look graphically different. Then there's things like in the sell screen of the auction house, if you didn't repair your gear you can't see what you have equipped, whereas if it is repaired, you can see it.

Then there's entire art assets being taken from World of Warcraft, like the Demon Hunter's "Boar Companion", which has its model and animation taken straight from WoW, and the Witch Doctor's Corpse Spiders ability with spider model/animation taken straight from WoW. These aren't easter eggs either, they are due to laziness or a lack of time, and given how long the game has been in development, it's a complete mystery to me why they did it.

Then the fact that items themselves don't even matter anymore, armor is all the same, and weapons are basically the same. Wizards with 2 handed axes using the same kind of armor as a melee barbarian type. Wizards with 1 handed axes and shields etc

All in all I think the game is a piece of shit compared to Diablo 2. I hope the RMAH saves it.

Yeah averaging MF/GF is an utterly stupid decision. We're already getting our own loot - let us use our own MF/GF; otherwise why party at all?

That said, the non-naming/automated MM system makes for easy joining into friends games. But yeah when everyone else has low to none MF, it's just fucking stupid how you're punished for that.

I'm going to second pretty much a mediocre review at this point...Was a lot of fun at first, but it's just boring now. The AH has pretty much ruined it. It makes getting good gear so cheap and trivial that it's a joke. Like the previous post, when the only stats that matter is main stat + vitality, gear selection is not exactly a difficult thing to do. I have also found absolutely no reason to equip a legendary. Nor have I had one drop. Not even a set piece drop either. In D2, legendaries and sets were a big deal. And you actually got drops.

Barbarian is 30, Wizard nearly 40. Just not having much fun right now with it.

Well, I'm done with the game till they fix it. I have no need to go in and spend time running act 1 inferno for rare items when 99% of the items I find are vendored anyways. I want to do something to try to earn the awesome items I need, but hitting my head against a brickwall just to see shitty rares drop that no one will use sorta saps my will to play. Item design in this game is pure shit. 50 hours played, and not one set, or legendary item. And even if one of them drops, I better pray to the gods that it rolls with the correct stats, or it will be basically vendor fodder.

Yep, and you're not alone in this. There's quite a large thread on reddit regarding this, and most of the top comments agree with what you said (as do I).

I've been through Nightmare on one character, and just starting Hell on another. I've got about 35-40 hours played and haven't seen a single unique, or as I guess they're calling it now, a Legendary. Haven't found any set items either. There is no sense of replayability IMO. What's the point of clearing trash or bosses when 1. Bosses aren't the best source for good loot, and 2. Any loot I find will probably be trash? Then when I do finally find a Legendary, it'll probably be outbeat by a Magic or Rare. And then the stats on items are extremely boring. All I'm doing is looking for the highest number, and that item is automatically better. Where's the fun in that?

I think my main issue with the game is that I can clear an entire difficulty and I don't have anything to show for it. In Diablo 2, you had a chance at pretty good loot for every boss you killed, so when you killed a boss, it actually meant something. It was something you looked forward to. Seeing that green or tan item drop on the ground was a great feeling, and it want you actually want to continue on, or try again for better loot. I recently re-played Diablo 2 with a bunch of friends in anticipating of Diablo 3 and by the time we reached Nightmare, I already had a few set items and some uniques.

I expressed my concerns about this to friends yesterday, and they mostly agreed as well. It's a fun game for awhile, but I seriously can't see myself still playing this after another week. With that said, I still feel it was worth my $60 as I'll definitely be getting $1/hour of entertainment value out of it, at least.

Don't worry guys, you don't even have to do the acts in order. You can just get someone on your friends list and go straight to where they are. The acts themselves are basically meaningless. I'm 60 and still in act 1 inferno, but a guy on my friends list was in act 3 inferno and I joined his game. Now whenever I create a game it gives me the option to create an act 1 inferno game or an act 3 inferno game. How retarded is that?

This game really feels completely different from all of Blizzards other games, something suspicious is happening.

How do you guys level up so fast considering the game just released less than a week. Do you really have to put lot of time into this?
Also does anybody play with Eyefinity/Nvidia Surround? I don't know if there's a ban for that or not.

It doesn't take that much time. I have 15 or so hours into one of my characters and I'm level 52.

You get something called "Nephalim Valor" at 60 whenever you kill a champion/elite pack. It increases your magic/gold find and stacks to 5. Each stack also increases the # of items a boss drops by 1, and if you get 5 stacks you almost always get 2-3 rares and 6 or so blues from an act boss. They're trying to discourage mindless boss runs in favor of killing champ/rare packs first and then doing the final boss.

I gotta agree with you PornoSatan, the game does not feel like it has anywhere near the depth that Diablo 2 did. And I say that having never gotten that far into Diablo 2.

I play in eyefinity... no they will not ban you for simply using windowed fullscreen mode...

+1. I argued with a guy that kept farming Act 4 first boss in nightmare that all he was going to get was blues. He didn't believe me.

Right, so then I can find an item with more DEX or VIT, or a shitty Legendary. The Nephalem buff is no excuse for bad itemization. It also inhibits different builds as you lose the buff upon changing skills.

I didn't want to believe the things people like you were saying because I was still caught up in "OMG DIABLO 3 IS OUT!!!" mode but everything you said among other things are appearing more and more true.

The #1 issue with this game though is the item system, it's garbage and it's completely fixable. I just hope they fix it.

Another thing I hate is the level cap, people are lvl 60 already. In D2, you had to dedicate an insane amount of time to hit lvl 99, so much time that most people haven't done it. Another great thing about it was the guy that was 99 vs the guy that was 88-92 really didn't have that big of an advantage if you were playing PvP, it was just something you were always chasing.

A great thread on the bnet forums had a quote that completely sums up my feelings for this game (even though I'm still playing it):

DoC said:
Here is a scary fact. It's sad that loading a game into act 3, running into a way point, killing mephisto 1000's of times is more fun than the entire diablo 3 game.

WTB: Diablo 2 1.09 remake plz k thx

It doesn't take that much time. I have 15 or so hours into one of my characters and I'm level 52.

I got the game and Wednesday and I think I've been putting in about the same amount yet my character is still at 22.

Thanks for the heads up, I read somewhere you need some plugs in to play since the game doesn't support multi monitors. You use the method at Widescreengaming?

Admittedly, this is my second character. My first character was a Witch Doctor that took the same amount of time to get to just 30-something. Don't worry about leveling up quickly, just enjoy the game at your own pace like you seem to be doing. :)

By the way just a heads up for all the reviews out there. This game is probably the best looking Blizzard game to date and regardless of what you may see out there my system is getting crushed by this game at high settings and I still consider what I have to be mid range.

For comparison I usually run SC2 at 60 fps all the time and only does it drop when I load up custom maps. I am running BF3 at around 40 FPS on mid/high settings.

Diablo 3 60...then I get into a situation with a number of mobs and I am always dropping down to 20 FPS...and I have shadows turned off. No way in hell are you running this game on a 6600GT at 1080.

I just tried to sell a run for the

Gibbering Gemstone, which is the hardest mat to find for the Staff of Herding

Had the mob found, Tp up... No-one was interested, in fact they told me off... Took an hour to find...
The D3 community really seems against runs for some reason.
This and other things that I have seen makes me feel that the D3 chat community is worse than the D2 community.... :(

Of course it is. Diablo 2 came out before WoW did. Simple enough.

Looks like I got lucky on finding a pair of legendary boots. Stats aint that great though :( Wasn't even from a boss too.

Finished Normal and didn't have much equipment suitable for NM.

So, I equipped myself with +80% worth of MF equipment and joined a party to kill Diablo. Got only 2 blues

That's most likely your problem. Assuming you were partied with three others and they had +0% MF (unlikely, but let's go with it), you actually had an effective MF of +20%. MF is averaged between all party members.

The other problem might be that supposedly Champion and Elite monsters drop better loot now than bosses (stupid), except in Inferno difficulty (Nephalem buff).

Yeh I know, just thought maybe you guys can share some tips :D

You're not guaranteed anything no matter how much MF you have. If the formula in Diablo 3 is anything like it was in Diablo 2, then the roll order goes top to bottom

Is item unique? Yes/No (very very low chance)
Is item set? Yes/No (very low chance)
Is item rare? Yes/No (low chance)
Is item magical? Yes/No (decent chance)

If all of these rolls fail, then the item is white. Magic find increases the chances each roll succeeds, but at vastly different rates. Ironically, in Diablo 2, some white items were really valuable for socketing purposes, so having magic find worked against when you trying to farm them. But anyways, no matter how much MF% you get, you will see uniques/set pieces more, but not much more, what you will see alot more of though is blue items, if that makes sense.

The more simplified way to put it is, the more MF you have, the greater chances you have at finding all magical (blue, yellow, gold) items.

Yeah but that doesn't help someone if they put on 80% MF and think they're supposed to be getting alot of rares/uniques now.

Technically that should be ~45% MF then, since my buddy had a bit of MF on him. I dunno, I did some of the bosses again after completing them the first round and I never get yellows on the second attempt. Is it possible the drop rate is reduced on subsequent farming attempts?

Also, for farming gold, would +MF and sell loot or +gold be better?

Unless you're getting some great drops and posting them on the auction house, I would have thought that the gold find would be much better. You can rack up thousands in gold pickup pretty quickly (and still sell the magic items you find).

What's the point of groups?

There are no bonuses, besides challenge... On the way to 60, what's the point of grouping?

Nightmare solo = cake walk, nightmare with 4 people = constant wipes.

I feel a bit ridiculous quoting myself, but I figure this is a worthwhile PSA for those who perhaps are just starting: hoard cash like there's no tomorrow - you can buy MUCH better gear on the auction house for far less money than the items you craft (this includes gems!). I'm really irritated that I pissed away probably the best part of 100k leveling my gem guy and blacksmith, only to realize that I can A. buy far better gems for absolutely nothing on the auction house and B. can buy far better gear than I can craft or find on the auction house. Now I'm left struggling to build up a cash balance again :(

It's fun to play with friends.

Now now, some people (a lot of people actually, but beside that) don't have true friends. I mean, unless you consider the guy that brags about his Gladiator title in WoW, or how he 'Head-shotted 4 kids while planting at A" that you talk to on Ventrilo, because you met him playing League, and thought he was cool because he bragged once about how he "got all the pussy", your friend. I find the game boring as SH*T solo. I'd rather be enslaved by orangutans than play solo. But that's just me.

running d3 on a hd4000... like a boss!

I accidentally ran it on my 4000 as well on my laptop, when the game didn't boot up with my 7970M as the primary adapter. I found it was actually quite playable, had to drop it down a notch resolution wise though.
